“Great hotel!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 via mobile

A very nice hotel with the best location in Lucaya. Friendly and helpful staff, the hotel restaurant Sabor with really good food overlooking the water, clean and comfortable rooms. I can strongly recommend this hotel to everyone!

The suites at Pelican Bay are very nice. The pool area is also very relaxing. What I like best about this resort is the location. You can walk to numerous bars, restaurants and shops. The restaurant Sabor is excellent. If you are a beach lover you have to take a shuttle to another resorts beach but once you arrive it is a pretty beach. We prefer the pool. I did not dine at the Canal House but heard good things about it from other guests. If you want a combination of activities and sun this resort provide the right location for both.

Located right next to Port Lucaya with many restaurants and shops and across the street from the Grand Lucayan, this hotel is a great value. It has three pools, a very nice restaurant - Sabor, and a very good salad bar luncheon in the Canal house (4th floor) Monday through Friday. I had a "stateroom which was essentially a suite with a living room, wet bad with fridge and microwave and separate bedroom. Had a nice little porch overlooking the canal, and was very quiet. There is also a ferry to a local beach that runs every hour. Very pleasant staff and convenient parking if you rent a car.

Room Tip: For a little extra I would go for the stateroom

We booked a bonefishing trip, and were defacto booked here. Arrived a little early, driver set bags down outside main lobby, where there were bellboy stands ready to roll. Checked in smoothly enough, found our suite room available but basically had to schlep our own bags to the suite. They gave directions, but the room was tricky to find, lots of different buildings, room #s, and the signage for directions was deplorable. Sweaty. Not a good start.

When we finally got to the room, the key flashed green, but I could not get the door open. After the third time, it took a foot and shoulder combination slam to pop open the door. That was the path to room access we had to take for the entire stay. I get that wood doors swell in humidity, but really?

Once inside, the suite was very, very dated and tired, (they actually used sawn closet poles stuck in the sliding door tracks as security) but it had a very nice view, and was basically appointed as advertised. We liked the bed, but it was pretty stiff, probably not for everyone. Service was good and the staff at the place was uniformly polite and helpful. Trying to find the breakfast spot was a challenge, no signs anywhere. When we found it, same deal on the glass doors; one set was locked, and you could only open the other about a foot and had to enter sideways because the carpet blocked access. Buffet was on the fourth floor, and on one day the elevator was broken. I watched a couple of flight attendants drag their bags up the stairs when we were walking down. They did not look very happy. The breakfast buffet was decent quality.

We tried one of the three pools, and it was quite dirty. There were two umbrellas, and both were ratty and broken. There was a newer nicer pool by a bayside bar named Bones, but we did not find this out until we had a beer there after the first day. The elevator to our room was filthy, every single day we stayed there. The ice machine three doors down from us was broken, and we had to climb two flights of stairs to go the other machine, which was functioning. One night, after leaving the on site restaurant, I had to use the restroom, but it was locked, which required a sprint to the lobby. There had to be a rest room there no? NO. Dash to the room, again, three body slams to the door; luckily, made it.

Checking out, we were not able to print out both boarding passes, the business room computers both seemed to freeze up simultaneously. The front desk was very helpful.

We met another couple there, and their AC was broken, and right after they settled in, they had to move to another room. Our AC worked fine.

Notwithstanding the complaints above, the location was perfect for us, close to the Marketplace, which was full of good restaurants, shopping, and bars.

The place is in need of a major cleaning/powerwashing, and updating/refurbishing, and then it would be a solid B accommodation.

Since I have been staying at this property for almost 15 years, I have never had as bad a stay as the last time I was there. The food quality has decreased and the service is not what it used to be. Very disappointed. I had to sit in a lobby outside the restraunt without air conditioning. It was very hot and I was dressed for work and I was melting... The room was not as clean as it used to be.

Arrived on evening of May 24th, late check in no problem. Didn't have our suite available, room we had for the first night had no hot water and needed updates bad, room 203 but they said they could have our suite that we booked ready the next day. Front desk and employees are very friendly and on the 25th they moved us to room 248. Fantastic suite, amazing view and overlooking the new Bones Bar. Close to everything port Lucaya has to offer and a 3 min walk to gamble, beach, and every type of island drink your heart desires. On check out I mentioned the issue with the room and what we had reserved, they took nearly $60 off a night which was a great remedy. On our last day we missed our check in window and decided to stay and extra night - they have us our same room and rate!!! A must stay in Freeport - absolutely best suite I've had the pleasure of staying in - oh and the nespeesso machine was freaking awesome!

Located at port lucaya, which means you dont need a car to go far to the restorants and shops. Rooms are outside, not inside of the hotel which gives you sort of a privacy when you are coming and going and with who. every section of the hotel has its own pool. two are with bars and one is called quiet pool, no people, no music, just you and water. a ,ice restaurants called Sabor is just at the front of the hotel, at main pool. Rooms are big and spacious, comfy and not pretencious but nice. Bathrooms also, with the little remark of getting the hot watter. For some reason it takes 10-25 min to get it running, happened to my friends also on another occasion. In any case, suites are much better solution there and I got a good discount for it. Staff could be better with sharing infos. Rooms key cards tend to reset often, keep them away from other cards and devices. WIfi works in all area in and out. but ask them, they told me that wifi is not free but I havent seen anything on my bill later. as for the beach.. you will need a little walking to go to the beach or a short 5 min boat drive. In any case, book the suite. Oh, no room servise!

Room Tip: book a suite, ask pool or canal view
