“Nice townhome for a great price!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

I was a little worried after seeing some of the other reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a 3 bedroom townhome that was recently updated with marble floors, modern decor, granite countertops, master balcony and terrace. We had 1 king, 1 queen, 2 twins and a pull-out sofa all of which was used and were comfortable. We had 8 people (including 3 children-10,8,5) in our party and everyone fit comfortably. We ate our meals in half the time and found the kitchen to be nicely appointed (although a nice roasting pan would have been nice). The resort staff was always friendly and accomodating; we even enjoyed bingo by one of the pools one day. We rented a minivan which was really old and used. It had a/c and enough room for everyone. The price was cheaper than other rental places, but the savings may have been eaten up by the $100 ($50 each way for 8 people) we paid both ways to the airport since they do not have shuttle service (would be a nice addition...)There are 2 pools (one could use resurfacing) and a hot tub (which is mostly useless because it is way hotter than any hot tub should be. There are 2 areas to eat. Ocean Blue is the main restaurant serving b/l/d and beverages (I recommend the Frozen Ocean Blue-Yum) and Esther's is run by a local woman (Esther) who makes excellent breads-banana, cinammon and white (order the day before because they are gone faster than she can bake them. Banana bread is almost as good as mine!! Overall we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: A 2 minute drive down Coral Rd will get you to Coral Beach which was gorgeous. It is withing a few...

This place is the worst place to stay at, there was skin oils stuck to the tile in the pool, globs of hair, when you would be swimming you would get rapped up in it. The tiles in the pool and the one that lead to the spa where broken. While wali g o. The walkways you had to watch wear you walked because so e time you would find chunks of the little wall in the walk way. The walkway next to the bay had broken areas, which you could have tripped on and hurt yourself. There is a building jack hold up the second story walkway to the rooms, not very safe. The taxis that are stationed to that resort charge what every price they want to take you I to town. There restraunt/bar doesn't stay open long enough at night. The room next to mine the roof caved in. The bike that you can rent are all rusted and don't work very well. I will not recommend this resort to anybody. I also notified RCI of these conditions.

The WORST resort I have ever stayed at.
The pool actually had algae growing inside the edges of the pool. Tiles broken and missing. During my stay 3 people cut themselves on the broken tiles. Oh BTW there were 2 used BAND-AID's in the pool for 3 DAYS after repeated requests to the staff to please clean the pool. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE FILTH AND DISGUSTING PROPERTY.
No linens changed or offered for change.
Ceiling in unit near us caved in during a storm.
"Decking" along the dock is broken and full of dangerous holes.
Staff is as uncaring as I have ever encountered.
Costs to do everything, and nothing is close. Cab charges whatever he feels like at any given moment.
I would not recommend this resort to anyone........

First of all Freeport is in the BAHAMAS & NOT part of the US & it is a small island with all the problems small islands have . This is ref. to other reviews about phones & WI FI. so if you NEED to use a phone & wi fi constantly go somewhere in the US. I had an international phone with me as I was in another country but I was on vacation so only switched it on once a day to check for emergencies. Also most things you need to buy are pricey as they had to be flown or shipped in! The resort was a bit tired looking but it gets slammed by terrible weather too often! They certainly cleaned up fast after Arthur hit last week. You do NEED a car if you want to get around the island, & cars rented from the resort are cheap but NOT top of the line but adequate for using for a week The electricity charge was mentioned MORE THAN ONCE UPFRONT & ORYC is not unique with this charge & we got our moneys worth from it as we had supercold A/C & a washer & drier! (Inside its own laundry room)! The Hot water must have been at least 140* coming out the tap. The unit outside looked ok & when you went in front door it was HUGE!!! This was an upgraded one & they didnt scrimp. Someone mentioned tropical furniture? Ours had beautiful Bassett Ebony wood furniture throughout Even the couch was Bassett. The kitchen was small but really user friendly, marble & stainless everywhere. living room had additional huge sleeper sofa & MASSIVE dining table. Upstairs was really spacious & 2 really good size full baths & balcony was a nice touch. Double glazing throughout was new & attractive. Fully equiped kitchen & bedding, towels etc, Beds & bedding to die for. Memory foam/spring matresses & feather duvet & pillows! Pool towels scheme was a good idea.....Bike rental was cheap. Restaurant & bar were good & decent prices. Staff were all really nice & helpful & YES, avoid the Timeshare lady but again, EVERY timeshare resort has one or 2 pops up everywhere! The main pool was really nice & the other one is about to undergo reno but still a pool. Esthers bread was ok but easier to drive to the store for a loaf!!! You DON't need COATHANGERS!!! I took a dozen with us as no one EVER has enough but they obviously dont take them out when guests leave them. So plenty for the whole week for everyone. Resort entertainment was fine too, saved on taxis to leave the resort. BBQ grills outside each unit too which was handy. After Arthur wnet thru we had ants trying to get in the patio & called for maintenance. The guy was there in 15 minutes!!! We would go back to Freeport & would use ORYC again.

Room Tip: Try to get a renovated unit . Since there was 5 of us we upgraded to a 3/3 & it was awesome &...

The staff is warm and friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Ocean Reef is about 1 1/2 miles from Port Lucaya, where the action is, so it's accessible and quiet. there are 2 pools and 2 restaurants. the condos range from a 1 bedroom studio to a 3 bedroom compete with a laundry room. Everything is convenient and it's a great place for families. I recommend staying in the townhouses as the walls are a bit thin in the main building.

We stayed at ocean reef on an RCI timeshare exchange. We were in 413. Overall we had a great time at ocean reef. The staff was great! Staff did so much to help insure we were entertained and work hard to help us in anyway. 2 pools are onsite and offer plenty of room for guess. Had a good time with fellow guess and enjoyed meeting new people. Heyward is very helpful in getting around and is an excellent tour guide. We really enjoyed the Bahamas some of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen. The Bahamian people on grand Bahamas are friendly and unentrusive.
Ocean reef is not near anything, no beach is within walking distance. If you stay there have a car. There is a free shuttle available to Luciya 10am pickup at 2. There are buses but there isn't a bus stop nearby the resort.
We went on an excursion with Hida, best all day thing available in the Bahamas. They spear some fish get a couch which they prepare on Barbary beach. You go snorkeling on a great reef. I saw an eagle ray fly right under me. You will really enjoy the staff Capt AJ is great and really great with our 4 yr old. Food and drinks were great.
For those people who require a resort in tip top shape ocean reef needs some updating. It has very well stocked kitchen which we used and save a lot of money eating in. There are barabues at each unit. DVD players in our unit didn't work, but we had our own. Furniture needs replacing but we still enjoyed our experience at ocean reef. Would do it again.
The dinning on grounds was great! Food was not overpriced and was great.
We had a perfect trip and stay at Ocean Reef. Grand Bahamas is a great place and we will return.

This was my 2nd stay at Ocean Reef and it's still a nice place to relax and enjoy yourself. I stayed in the 3br townhouse. It's very nice with tropical decor. I loved that they added the full mirrors. They place was kept up nicely. Staff was friendly and there Taxi driver Hayward Forbes was knowledgable, friendly, and has a charming personality. I would recommend him for anyone visiting. His contact is 242-375-5100. I used him for all my traveling and he know great party spots.
