“Wonderful trip - very relaxing!”
Reviewed 17 March 2013

We just returned earlier this week from a week at Island Seas. We saw all the negative reviews on TripAdvisor, but have some friends who own a timeshare there and couldn't say enough good things about it so we decided to try it for our 2013 family vacation.

Many of the negatives that I read were based on the fact that there was essentially no night life at the resort. That is true - and one of the reasons we liked it so much. We took our 5 kids that are still at home (ages 11 - 18) and they all had a great time. The staff is exceptional - everyone that we dealt with was great. There are some special ones - Dr. Love, Talia (you gotta get this woman to sing for you - she is fantastic!!), Debbie, to name a few. Great rooms. You're on an absolutely stunning beach and beaches have sand, so don't expect for tyour room floors to be spotless all the time.

We had a two bedroom condo and it was just right for us. A nice, if small kitchen allowed us to cook as much as we wanted. There was one free trip (on Mondays) to Solomon's grocery store and I'd advise you to take advantage of that and buy up. Solomon's is a pretty nice store with a better selection than I have seen in the Bahamas before. Food costs significantly more than here in the states, so we took a suitcase loaded with food as well. Obvious restrictions on what you can carry in on a plane, but take what you can.

There is plenty to do on the island and we took advantage to some great snorkeling spots. Beautiful fish and coral. My wife and I have snorkeled in the Dominican and a couple areas of Mexico, and this was the best, hands down. If you haven't tried it, it is a good place to try conch. I am a seafood lover and pretty adventurous with new foods. It was good, but in my opinion, not great. I tried it in fritters, conch salad and cracked conch. I even ate one of the spinal thingies - pretty much like a salty gummie worm.

Island Sea's beach is wonderful. It was not overly full at the resort (we were a week ahead of spring break), so there were always beach chairs available when we wanted them. Great beaches for long walks. The resort is very family-friendly and again, the people are wonderful.
If you go looking for a 5-star resort with alot to do, you may be disappointed. But if you want a place to relax on the beach, with (have I mentioned this?) wonderful people and very adequate accomodations, this is the place for you. We loved it.

As a side note - they are in process of a major update for the rooms. All new furniture and such. I saw truck loads of new kitchen appliances and the new furniture is ordered and being shipped in. The laundry room is probably the one negative I can leave. Not nearly enough washers and dryers, and several with "Out of Order" signs on them. Pretty minor beef in my book. I'd love to go back.

Room Tip: Room 2007 faces the pool and Coconuts. Great room and you can see the ocean from the balcony as wel...

My boyfriend and I just enjoyed our first romantic getaway and Island Seas was absolutely perfect! It was not crowded at all. Our condo was very clean and comfortable. The beach was pleasant and clean with an abundance of chairs. The bar may have been our favorite part. Tory "Big Daddy" kept us laughing and drinking everyday. We enjoyed much of the island via scooter and rental car. The concierge at Island Seas met our every need. Anything we needed, all we had to do was ask and it was immediately addressed. Our ceiling fan in the bedroom was wobbly and squeaky; within 10 minutes of our phone call, it had been fixed. Extremely pleasant staff, from waiters and waitresses at the Seagrape Grille to bartenders at Coconuts, to our housekeepers. Fantastic!!

Room Tip: Request a room on the beach/pool side. The canal side just doesn't compare to ocean views!

We stayed a week at this resort and overall had a pretty good experience. We couldn't have asked for more when it came to the beautiful beach the property sat on and the nice availability of chairs it had for the guests. We also ate some fabulous food at Chef Benny's down the beach a bit. I really wouldn't recommend the restaurant as the food was okay and the service was extremely slow.

You get one free trip to the grocery store a week, so get what you can the first time. Free trips also to Port Lucaya every day was nice. They have several times throughout the day that leave the resort and pick you up at the Port. Very friendly bus drivers and taxi drivers in the area.

The only bad report we had was agreeing to listen to the time share presentation for free gifts. They were very rude and we can say that we have never been treated so poorly by any time share staff anywhere!! Stay far away from those people. The male manager was the worst and stated to us "I will renege on the free gifts if you didn't come here with an open mind". While that doesn't sound bad, it was the way he said it and treated us when saying "NO!".

Yes the beach is nice, but this is a two star resort at best. When you arrive you have to go through the Interval Time Share people before you register. We went to the presentation and it did sound good. We purchased it because we had seven days to cancel WITHOUT PENALITY. After discussing it without a salesman staring at us we decided to cancel the next day. That costed us $60.00 then thay are refunding all but $630.00 for a processing fee. This is theft period, and being disputed. Next, they made us move twice, and each room was a fire hazard. My wife could not open the sliding glass padio door. I had to lift each door out of the track to open it. There are no activities here and you need a car, bus, or taxie to go anywhere. This could be a four star with some TLC and some entertainment. Oh, the bar, the people who work there are unhappy and complain. They pour your drink through a measuring device so no matter how much you may tip they can not pour you a decent drink. The food also sucks ! Save your money and go to Playta del Carmen Mexico where you are treated well. Checking in was three hours for us, and one couple complained it took them five hours to get to their room. All week all we heard was complaints from the guests and staff. Aparently they have not had a pay raise for several years and it shows.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

Ths is not a five star resort but for the price is an excellent value The resort is right on a beautifull beach where you can relax and enjoy the calm warm waters. Bring your snorkeling equipment as there is good snorkeling for free right from your resort. The place is clean with very freindly and happy staff. They even supply a shuttle to the market twice a week and also shuttle you to port lagaya evey hour from 9;00 til 6;00 Can't say enough about this place it's great as long as your not looking for 5 star resorts

Room Tip: get an ocean view and fall to sleep listening to the waves

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Island Seas Resort on Grand Bahama Island. The restaurant served great food at reasonable prices, the condo was clean and the beach was fantastic. Additionally, the security agents were very vigilant about ensuring the safety of the tourists on the beach and on the grounds of the resort.

I would like to give a special "Thank You" to Mr. Saunders, the Front Desk Supervisor. He is a respectful, hard-working gentleman who takes his responsibilities very seriously.
