We stumbled into this hotel in a last minute plan change, and are very thankful we did. The Radisson had just taken over from Westin, and they were running great introductory specials. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a better room with a great beach view, and made very welcome by the staff. There were a few startup issues with the switchover, but all in all a great location and great vacation experience.

To our first trip to the Bahamas we chose grand Bahamas Island. I was good weather, beautiful beaches and good food! We stayed at the Sheraton Lucaya, very nice room great beds with beautiful views. We arrived and were given a complementary upgrade to a balcony room which was beautiful. We where there a week and we planed three days of activities, and 3 days of relaxing and socking up the sun. We scuba dived the first day, great visibility really nice dive company. Caribbean Divers locally owned and there were only 4 divers that day so you are not on a huge boat being cattle herded and processed like sheep. Great prices too. We did a great small cave and saw some sharks and cool coral and Marian life. The second day we went kayaking through the mangrows nice the water was brown do a forest fire a few months prior. I was surprised how tight it got on the tour. If you have never kayaked before this might not be the activity for you there were some pretty technical parts and might be frustrating for the first timers. We had lunch on the BEST beach on the Island it was so good we rented a car the next day and came back for a whole day in the sun. Gold Rock beach it is about a 30 minute drive from Lucaya but well worth it. This is the beach that you see in all the brochures and posters. The beach at low tide is so wide and so white it seems unreal! The water is crystal clear we spend an hour there with our tour after kayaking and then the next day we got there at 1 when the tour was leaving and had the whole beach to our self!!!!! Beautiful I can’t believe they haven’t marketed that area but I think it is part of their national park!!! The nest day was relax at the hotel. The beach is busy and the pools are cool the Westin and Sheraton you can share both pools since you are on the same property. The Westin has a pretty infinity pool and a swim up bar bad the sharton is more kid friendly with a waterside. We dove again on the next day saw lots of reef sharks I mean lots!!!!! Hung out at the hotel the next went to the market and got knickknack and some souvenirs, and headed home the next day!

I have stayed at this hotel Many times over the last 10 years. This last time was for my sister's wedding with a group of about 50-60 guests. Unfortunately, we were virtually the only guests at the resort and this area of the Bahamas seems to have been hit very badly by the US recession. The locals have communicated that the tourist industry has been so terrible and the hotel was jsut recently bought by radisson- it's no longer a westin. The rooms were still okay, nothing spectacular but they were pretty clean. The grounds were nice but you could tell that it's lacking because the pool was brown on one end of the resort. They blamed it on a hurricane but it jsut looked like they weren't properly cleaning it.

The stores across the street which are usually very busy were also completely empty. WHich MADE IT SO MUCH WORSE- the women and men were literally following us around trying to get us to buy anything because there are so few people. It was VERY annoying.

We were used to fighting for a stop at the enormous pool but we had our pick of seats, we had our pick at the bar, etc. the only problem is that with 0 guest... there is barely anythign open. the casino is normally full but because of the lack of people at the resort they barely had any tables open. THey only opened the craps table on saturday night and that was it.
It was terrible. very sad to see.

ANyway, I'd say there is a pretty good chance that this hotel will close down sooner than later. MY sister went back abotu a month after we were there and she said the place was completely empty. we walked around int he evening and didn't see another person for periods of 10-15 mins.

I wouldn't recommend goign there until it gets a little mroe crowded- it was honestly a little spooky because it was so empty.

Words cannot describe the beauty of this hotel, not to mention the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Excellent location, very close to everything- restaurants, shopping, Marketplace, beach, and it has the most attractive pools anywhere. Awesome architecture, we got the best room in the hotel for our honeymoon! Gorgeous views, nice, large, clean, attractive rooms, excellent service, this place has it all. Couldn't ask for anything more. We were truly wowed by it all. We didn't want to leave. We will be back. The Radisson rocks!

Out stay dates in Freeport Bahama were 09-07-09 to 09-12-09. We booked thru Orbitz and booked a room at the Our Lucaya Reef motel. When we arrived we were told that we were upgraded to the Radisson ( the old Westin). The Radisson room was really nice and had an ocean view, room service was very good and checkin people were really nice. Our room was located on the 9th floor and offered a great view of the ocean and property. The room could of used a few updates but all in all it was very nice. The bed was really a dream to sleep on and very nice.
We suggest you pack lots of snack foods in your luggage when your travel, its a lot cheaper than buying things locally! Since we booked everything in September there was no crowd at any of the shops, beaches or resturants we visit, we really enjoyd the Lucaya Market Place located just across the street from the Radisson. You can bargain with the sellers at the market place and save a few dollars, they are all friendly there.
The beach area at the Radisson was great, they have a tractor and plow the sand early each morning and it is great to walk on and also fluffs up the sand. Lots of sea-doo to ride and the ocean water was really warm. We also contacted a dive shop and made a two dive day in the ocean a few miles off shore. Be sure to check out the prices for these dives, some of the dive people are not very nice and we wish we had of choosen a different dive company.
The resturand the “LeMed” , down by the marine harbor was ok but way over priced, tried the local beer but the taste was to flat for us.We ordered the Lobster & fish dinner and it was great and a nice salad on the plate to. Everyone should try the Conch, its sorta like clams but a really sweet taste.
If you like a great cigar visit the Havana Cigar Shop located just a few doors down from the Isle Of Capri Casino. All cigars there are kept in humidity safe cigar room. Average price was about $15 per cigar but was great to have a Cuban cigar. Also buy your cokes there, they are only $1 a can, we paid $3 a can at the Radisson Motel lobby.
The AfterDeck Resturant located in the Market Place - GREAT SERVICE – Try the grouper fish & chips, its very good.
The China Grill - Overpriced - GREAT HAMBURGER ! Located by the pool at the Radisson.
Going thru Customs is a snap but be sure to keep all your paperwork, passports and immagration cards handy, you will need them to leave the country.

I took my wife to the Grand Bahamas after getting our daughter to college for her freshman year. My wife needed to get her mind off of her baby leaving the nest and this was a great way to do it. We were staying in South Florida and I planned the trip to take a day cruise to the Grand Bahamas and stay at the Radisson.

After a 5 hour party cruise from Ft. Lauderdale we took a group taxi to the Radisson, which was previously the Westin. Check in went smooth and the ocean view room we had was on the 5th floor. Our view was gorgeous overlooking the blue caribbean water and the grounds of the hotel. Although it was August we left the door to the balcony open and listened to the waves all night. Sunrise was beautiful although I would have preferred a sunset. I guess you can't change the way the hotel is pointed!

We stayed for 2 nights but the trip back wasn't until 4:00pm, so we had a full day on the departure day. The pools and poolside bars at the Radisson are great, especially the infinity pool. Next door is Billy Joes, which had the best conch fritters and red snapper that I have ever had. And across the street is Port Lucaya. We went back to the Rum Runner many times to have the best Pina Coladas that I have tasted.

Wish we could have stayed longer.
