I took the Discovery Cruise n' Stay from Fort Lauderdale and stayed here for 3-nights - I couldn't have picked a nicer place.

Rooms were great - they're quite large. The beds were nice and comfy, big fluffy pillows. The bathroom is large as well and has tons of counter-space. Balcony's were nice too - even the ones overlooking the market and tennis courts.

The location is superb! You're right on the beach of course, and it's well maintained and spacious so you don't feel crowded. There are lots of beach chairs both on the beach and around the pool, so you don't have to worry about that. There's a large pool, but I didn't see anyone use it while I was there... but who needs a pool when you have the crystal blue ocean at your finger tips?

The restaurants on the resort are pricey enough - I'd recommend heading across the street to the market instead. (Agave and Zorba's are both good bets). If you eat on the resort, the China Grill has good snacks and cocktails, and the Prop Grill (I think it was called? It's at the west-end of the beach) has nice fish dishes and beer.

Being across from the market was nice - it's fun to wander through. It's very much aimed at tourists, so if you're not big on souvenir shops and such, you might want to stay away from that part of the market. If you walk along the outside there are tons of stalls with souvenirs - you will be stopped often enough by vendors, but they aren't pushy about it. Everyone's very friendly, so just politely decline and they let you be.

Only complaint was check-in took FOREVER. But I think that was because a whole bunch of us from the cruise arrived all at once... I imagine the rest of the day it would run smoothly.

Initial rate was $139/night which seemed great and were warned about significant taxes. What we weren't warned about was the $7/person resort fee (which is standard now but still annoying) and an $8/person service fee in addition to 18% taxes. And don't forget to turn in your pool card of $25 will be charged to your account. Staff was fine until we saw at checkout that we were being charged for 3 people in room instead of 2 of us that stayed there. Front desk clerkwas extremely rude, curt, and basically called me a liar. Regrettably, nice stay was ruined by this and now being disputted with credit card company. For the overall $225/night, there are better places to take my tourism dollars.

Was somewhat skeptical about the property after reading reviews. Boy were they WRONG. This place was well maintained and the staff was great (espically the bartenders) We did an all inclusive 4 night package for 9 people ages 14-45 and everyone had a great time. Beach was magnificent, water was clean and warm. You can bargain the price of excursions shop around. Only negative - that you could only eat in certain restauraunts on certain days. Top tier restaurants were fantastic. Market across the street also that has entertainment and several other places to eat. Casino in on premise which is added entertainment. Transportation from airport to hotel by cab is only $23 USD. Trip hint: Tip generously and you will be taken care of. No waiting for drinks at bar, preferred seating, extra towels etc. My recommendation is that you book this place if going to Freeport.

We just returned from a girls trip to Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island (7 of us). We booked the Lucaya through the Discovery Cruise. Overall the package was a good price. The Cruise was a little lengthy and there is not a lot to do on the Discovery as the ship is very small. Debarkation is not very orgainzed and it takes a while to get off the ship (which is another review). The Lucaya Reef Village is very nice. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. There is 2 nice sized pools at the Lucaya as well as a hot tub (which is roomy and nice). Good access to the beach right from the resort. The rooms are nice and clean with a fair amount of room (good A/C). We kept having trouble with the keys not working and made many trips to the front desk to get new ones made. The staff was nice and friendly and spoke as we made our way around the resort. As far as meals, go to the Marketplace to eat. The only thing going for Barracuda's (located inside the resort) is the view ~~ food is not worth what you pay for it. Our favorite restaurant was Zorba's Greek Restaurant. AWESOME breakfast and wonderfully priced, for the traveler!! A couple other favorites: Rum Runners, and Pisces Seafood House & Pizzeria (best pizza that you will ever eat!). We had the Cracked Conch at Billy Joe's (located on the beach), which was very good.

Well, the second day of our vacation marked the beginning. We switched hotels earlier that day because we could not take the Viva Wyndham. We had stayed here a couple of years ago when it was still a Westin and it was nice. the room was clean and the sheets were soft. the pools were nice and cool. the resurants and shops around the hotel were awesome. this hotel is the best.

Reservations were made on May 4, 2010 for a party of five consisting of 3 adults and 2 children (13 & 11). At that time we were told that we would be able to have adjoining or adjacent ocean view rooms and were never informed that our request could not be honored. This trip was created as a package with the Bahamas Celebration Cruise Lines (see cruise reviews - eeuww!). We never recieved hotel room vouchers, nor did we know that we should have recieved them along with our cruise accomodation vouchers. Check-in at Lucaya Reef Village was chaotic. Three hours were spent between the cruise representative and the hotel desk in an attempt to provide the requested rooms. We were initially informed that we had two "island-view" - actually "service-area" views rooms. After much arguing and mis-communication between Lucaya desk and Celebration Cruise representative, we were provided with one ocean view and one service area view room. The ocean view room was acceptable while the service area room was musty and had an odor of urine. The bathroom and entry way floor was continually wet and we were told that nothing could be done about that "sweating" effect (room number 4055). After arriving at the hotel in the early afternoon and not being able to actually check-in until after Four pm, you will accept anything! I believe this weraing down of the guests is part of their marketing strategy.
The beach was beautiful and the pools were very nice and maintined well. The resort maintenance staff was very friendly and kept the grounds in good condition. One very disconcerting fact was that every day the beach was inundated with daytrippers from other cruises that were bussed in. The beautiful Bahama beach experience was transformed into a mob scene. We were also never made aware of the food voucher (AI) option . Food was expensive and mediocre at best. Interestingly enough, the advertising photograph centers on the neighboring Radisson Hotel, giving the impression that that was the resort we would be staying in. This portion of the resort is lovely, peaceful and much more appealing. We were very disappointed to say the least and the cruise portion left much to desire as well.
My primary complaint is the business model of the whole operation. It is geared toward the vulnerable and travelling naive. They catch you with the low prices and promise you the world when in actuality, guests are nickel and dimed throughout the stay. Staffs of each organization are not accountable for problems incurred and transfer them to each other creating a circle of confusion. Resolution of problems is haphazard at best. CANNOT recommend this package or resort unless you go to the Radisson. Pay more and get more!
