Grand Lucayan, Bahamas
Ranked #4 of 14 Hotels in Freeport
Reviewed 8 October 2010

We went to the Bahamas to have a leisurely vacation and play some golf. We stayed at Our Lucaya Reef Village in Freeport. We purchased an all inclusive package which worked well for us since we didn't wnt to worry about any additional expenses for food and drinks. The restaurants offered with the all inclusive were acceptable, however limited to a set number of times you could take advantage them. We really liked China Beach but you could only go there a couple of times with the package. The other places we ate were OK but not any where as good as China Beach for dinner. Breakfast was only available at our hotel with no other choices that were open. We were there the second week in May and had spectacular weather and hardly anyone was there. So the beach wasn't crowded nor were the restaurants. We had a great time and would return.

Came by the Carribean Cruiseline--small ship that was rough in the ocean waters.
Won't be back on it ever again. We were glad to get off of it and have the Radisson shuttle pick us up. Our room was the marina view which was pretty. It had two double beds. The room didn't have a fridge so everything we bought to eat, we couldn't save for leftovers. The internet was fast and worked good. Housekeeping was friendly. Go to the spa if you do come. We got the couples massage and it was worth it. The food at the resort was VERY expensive and the quality and quanity wasn't good. We learned quick not to eat onsite. The beach was pretty but so many Bahamians walking it trying to sell you shirts, caps, hair braids....this got annoying. The resort shouldn't let them on their beaches. The Raddison is a big hotel so plan on walking--A LOT. You have to walk everywhere in this area. There really isn't any nightlife so don't plan on that! If youcome to just lay on the beach then it's a fine choice. Grand Bahama just isn't for me!!

My husband and I stayed at the Radisson in July 2010. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back. The pools, beaches and grounds were gorgeous. The room was comfortable and clean. We found the staff to be friendly; some were on island time, but we were ok with that. We were on vacation after all. A couple of the bartenders (at Irie's and the Cigar Bar) were outstanding and wonderful to chat with. We did not do the all inclusive plan and split our meals between the restaurants at the resort and at the Port Lucaya Marketplace. There is something for every taste and budget. Overall, we found the resort and surrounding area offered as much - or as little - as we wanted to do. It is possible to read a book in a secluded spot by the pool or beach, and it is also possible to find a fun club where you can dance until the wee hours of the morning.

I like the hotel employees. We had a wonderful time in Freeport. The hotel was great and the location fantastic. The restaurants was wonderful place and with terrific service.. Great dinner at the Zorbas in Lucaya. Freeport people are very kind and friendly. The hotel was very quiet and very clean. Hope we can return again next year. Thanks again for all your help and attention.

This is my third trip to Grand Bahama Island. The first was at the Jack Tar all-inclusive on West End, the second was at the then Holiday Inn which is now the Reef Village and the third at the Reef Village with my 18 year old granddaughter. The staff was so friendly and eager to help. We didn't eat at the hotel much because we enjoyed eating most of our meals at the restaurants at the Our Lucaya Marketplace. The pools were clean with ample lounges. The beach was outstanding again with ample lounges - free. Towels were available with a card from the room. We did not use the tour desk in the hotel because we had made friends natives with a tour kiosk on the dock and got great service from them. All in all, it was a wonderful senior trip for my granddaughter and a delight for me.

The hotel itself is a far walk from where you check in. They have a Starbucks on the first floor but the smell of coffee mixed with warm sea air( feels like no ac in this section) is nauseating. Mold in showers. They have balcones but you can't use them because there are so many ac units out side the window you can't talk.

Checking in and out is a long wait. No organization from the front desk here.

When you eat at the resturants at this resort they automatically include 15% tip. Therefore, no incentive for waitresses to do a good job.

This is not a place to visit during September, the place was virtually deserted. Staff was very unfriendly and half of the restaurants were closed, or either not available on the all exclusive plan we purchased. We booked our trip through Cheap Carribean.com, and do not feel that we were given fair representation of the Bahamas. Very few tours to chose from and even those were misrepresented. Also the hotel provided absolutely no nightlife. For all of my negative responses, I must say the hotel grounds were very nice with beautiful pools and beaches.
