The studio was very large, it was more like a 1 bedroom. I guess because it was only one large room divide for sleeping and livingroom and diningroom. There was a full kitchen and a very large shower but no bath tub.
No maid service and you had to exchange your towels yourself. I had a Terrace half the size of my living quarters; it was like having an extra room full enclosed, thats where I had my breakfast each morning watching the sun rise.

Room Tip: Its a large property and all buildings are not equal I was told. The larger room that I was in is th...

This was our 2nd trip to Taino and have been pleased both times. This is definately a place to relax and unwind. This year we were there during college spring vacation, and not intentionally. The staff was excellent monitoring that everyone was pretty well behaved. The resteraunt on the property is just ok in our opinion. However, there are plenty of options just a short water taxi ride away in Post Lucaya. We go to the food/liq market on the first day and usually cook several meals ourself. We stayed at the Marlin both trips and the rooms are always clean and updated. Our only complaint this time was the mattress was pretty broken down and thin so the platform bed was a bit hard. The beach is great. It was cleaned every morning that we were there. We recommend snorkling and the sunset cruise is always fun with Omar leading the dancing!

Room Tip: All the efficiency rooms are facing a parking lot

I have been an owner at Taino Beach for 21 years., stayed 2nd year in a row at the Marlin. Yes, the older units closer to the beach (the Ocean, Coral units) need renovating. But the Marlin condos are beautiful. Was not please with the bed this year, seemed old & hard. Beach was cleaned during the week we were there, they do groom it regularly. Pool & grotto bar, wonderful as usual. There were employees cleaning walkways & public areas all the time. There is no need to complain about anything here. The location is the best, directly on the beach, 5 minute water taxi ride into Port Lucaya.

Room Tip: Request the Marlin building and you won't be disappointed.

First off, I am not affiliated with Taino Beach Resorts

I Have been to Taino several times. The first was in 2004, I was there on my Honeymoon, then again in 2008 & 2009 when we went on extended family vacations.

I am dismayed by the negative reviews that i have been reading though on this site. It appears that the people that wrote those were expecting an "all-inclusive" 5 star resort. This is a Caribbean Island that runs on "Island Time" The Bahamian people love their island, and are very friendly. Slow down, take some time and you'll learn a lot from them.

Here are my thoughts and a few tips to help you have a wonderful time and hopefully fall in love with a hidden gem just a couple of hours off the coast of Florida.

There are several ways to get to Freeport, (in no particular order)

#1. By Air: Freeport, Grand Bahama Airport (FPO) has several flights daily
#2 By Ferry: There is a "Fast Ferry" that departs from Ft. Lauderdale every morning.
#3 By Boat: you can charter a boat and sail over there.

However you get there, you will either need to:
A) rent a car (they drive on the left side of the road), or
B) you can grab a Taxi
(Hint #1: Make conversation with your driver and you can learn tons of information about the island (places to eat, places to go, etc.). If you enjoyed the trip, make sure that you get their phone number so that you have a ride to the airport /cruise terminal at the end of the week)
(Hint#2: Make a stop by the grocery store/ liquor store on the way to the resort to pick up your non-perishable / non-frozen items. (the resort has a shuttle that runs a couple of times during the week to pick up the items that you didn't get.))

THE RESORT:
Most of the resorts in Freeport have a check-in time between 3-4pm.
if you do get there early, The resort has a locked room that you can store your luggage/groceries

So, drop off your bags, and you have a few options
1. Go hang out on the beach.
2. Grab Lunch at Taino by the sea
3. Grab a drink at the Bar
4. Hang out by the pool.
5. Book all of your watersports at the counter in the lobby.

(Hint#1: Pack a swimsuit in your carry-on so you can swim up to the bar.)
(Hint#2: what ever you do, please don't get angry with the ladies at the front desk about getting into your room. they can't release you to your room until housekeeping clears it. - remember you are now on "island time" there is NO express check-in. A little kindness goes a long way)

THE ROOMS

There are three buildings in the complex, The Ocean, The Coral & the Marlin
Here is a breakdown of the different units:

THE OCEAN:
The Ocean was opened in 1997. Complete upgrades and improvements were completed in January 2007. it is the oldest unit that is still at the resort (the original units were damages by hurricane Francis and torn down.)
These units are the closest to the ocean but they are still close to the Pool.
(We stay in these units when we go)

THE CORAL:
The Coral, formally "Coral Suites" was opened in 1999. they are nice and have huge balconies
that overlook the pool. (We've stayed in these units too)

THE MARLIN:
The Marlin was originally scheduled to be opened July 2007. However, they actually opened a little ahead of schedule. these are the newest units and have the most up to date facilities. these are adjacent to the welcome center and they are the farthest away from the beach.
(I have not stayed in these, but have taken tours and seen the rooms.)

OVERALL:
Yes, Some of the rooms are older, but they are constantly working to improve them. Based on other rooms I've seen in the Bahamas, these are comparable. (the room is really only a place to sleep and eat, so it serves it's purpose. (We have never had a problem with exchanging/acquiring towels (beach or bath towels)....so again, a little Kindness goes a LONG way.

The Resort is a Timeshare so they will ask you if you would like to attend a breakfast or lunch and tour the facilities. we sometimes go other times we decline. they do give vouchers for Glass Bottom boat tours, jet-ski tour etc. so you can get some watersports covered if you want.

SHOPPING / ENTERTAINMENT:

To get to Port Lucaya Marketplace you can take the Ferry that the resort runs ($5 round trip / per person). Here you can access UNEXSO for diving and Dolphin experience, the Casino, all of the restaurants and shops that you want. as well as the 2 Straw markets .
(a note on the straw markets.)
the Straw markets are areas set up for the Bahamian people to sell crafts /souvenirs to the tourist trade which is part of the lifeblood of the island. It is a fun place to go look for Island themed crafts (I know that a lot of the stuff is made in China, but I always go and buy a few things to bring back for famly and friends. they can be a little pushy at times, but they are trying to make a living so a smile and a no thank you generally works. I will stress again (Be KIND and you will receive the same)

Go one night and sit in Count Basie square and listen to the free concerts for a true Bahamian feel.

The International Bazaar:
Three hurricanes that hit the island has greatly damaged the economy on the island and in such, has greatly harmed the tenants at this once huge shopping center. I have read and heard reports that there is a resurgence and I will have to report back later when i go later this year.

Last Thoughts:

While I understand the frustration from some of those on here that are complaining about the lack of some of the amenities that Americans take for granted when they stay in a hotel back home. Just remember, This Island is their home and you are a VISITOR. Slow down and go with the flow and hopefully you will have a wonderful time.

I can't wait to get back at the end of June to see the Friends that i have made over the years and accept their hospitality

Room Tip: The Ocean Rooms are older but closest to the Beach, the Coral are in the middle and the Marlin are n...

I think for all vacations, they are what you make them. We went to RELAX. This was a great place to relax... yet there were plenty of activities to do if you wanted, all within a block of the resort including a 5 minute ride to Port Lucya. The resort itself has trips to the local market, cooking facilities, a great restaurant, reasonably priced... fun stuff like bon fire night and dancing. The private beach is lovely... quiet. Full moon when we were there, walking the bach at night, relaxing in the sun during the day. Had fun at the bar in the pool where I know Omar from! :) Water slides were fun! Rooms were clean, loved being able to cook in or eat out! Most importantly the staff is accomodating and friendly and if you want to have fun, just find Omar and the gang. For me, every vacation is what you make it. We had a great time and would go back!

Room Tip: the closer to the beach, the better the rooms. Even the mid level was excellent where we stayed! Lov...

This is by far the best family vacation ever! There is so much to do, but even if you just stay around the resort, it is paradise & the resort makes it fun with different activities. We always do breakfast & lunch in our room or at the resort and take the ferry boat in to Port Lucaya for dinner. Just a fabulous vacation. We try & go ever year!
