“Beautiful beach & awesome pool!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2012

I stayed to Taino Beach in July with my boyfriend for one week. The check in process was slighty frustrating as it took a couple of hours with us in the lobby waiting for the bell boy to take us with our bags to the room. However, there was free rum punch in the lobby to help ourselves to. The beach was breath taking, I couldn't believe how unreal the water was. There were plenty of lounge chairs & tables on the beach for guests to use. The Pool was ridiculous. It was so huge it took me a few days to discover the hidden jacuzzi caves inside of it. The grotto bar was awesome, and the bartender was very generous with the liquor pouring. I wish the bar would have stayed open longer though, but we saved money by purchasing our own liquor in Port Lucaya (A liter of Bacardi was like $9).

After visiting Port Lucaya, I learned alot more about the locals and became very respectful of their culture. I understood why our check in took so long. They aren't fast paced like we are in the US, they are very happy and relaxed people and do things on their own time. I really liked that about the Bahamas. Port Lucaya was also very fun and it was just a short $5 Ferry Ride from the hotel across the street from Taino Beach.

The only things I will warn you about, is when you get to the resort you will be forced to meet a representative of the activities & water sports & she will try very hard to sell you these activities.... she will also call you very early every morning to try again, so unplug your phone if you want to sleep in! Also, there are NO grocery stores within walking distance! So it is very important to go on the scheduled grocery runs, which you have to reserve at the front desk, or by calling the front desk. You should go on a grocery run your first day if you can because the food is very expensive, even at the grocery stores, but it's cheaper to cook your own food than to eat at any restaurant in Freeport. Giovanni's in Port Lucaya had great food at a decent price though. However, if you do want to do any activities, do book it with her when you get there or book everything BEFORE you get to the Bahamas because you will not have cell phone service or wifi & the phone in our room, and a couple we met at the resort's room, did not work for outgoing calls, not even for local calls. There is only free wifi in the lobby & at the pool. There is also a free computer to use for internet upstairs in the lobby.

The rooms were very beautiful in the Marlin building, they are the furthest from the beach, but it was only 2-3 minutes walk. You can almost get lost walking aroung the pool to the beach & restaurant, but there are signs :) The land scaping is gorgeous and they do a good job at keeping the grounds and beach clean.

It was my first vacation out of the country, but it was one of the best experiences of my life. I can't wait to go back to the Bahamas! This resort was much nicer than a few others nearby. A couple I met on a semi submarine tour who stayed at the Viva Wyndham were very disappointed, so I was glad I didn't go there like I had initially planned in the past.

PS- if you plan on going for a long walk in the beach, bring tennis shoes because further down it gets rocky for a while before you get to the Junkanoo Beach.

Room Tip: Stay in the Marlin, they are the most modern and updated rooms.

We just spent a week at this resort. This was the only place we could get an exchange for the time frame we had. Was concerned because of the reviews regarding the Ocean section, fortunately we were put in the Marlin which was supposed to be the best. The studio was clean and had everything we needed. I believe they need to work on maintenance as it seems to be lacking. A towel rack was loose, bathroom fan did not seem to work, AC was weak. The restaurant had a very limited menu, with reasonable prices, ok but unspectacular food. It was closed two days with only a notice on the door. Beautiful white beach, some weeds in the water, the pool is spectacular. Did an Island tour which was a waste, only took us to places which needed the business. The whole island seems to be in financial trouble, closed hotels and businesses. They blame it on hurricanes but I think the main income it cruise ships stopping there.

Room Tip: Obviously if you can afford it the units facing the pool are spectacular, keep to Marlin or Coral un...

The best thing about this place was the pool. It is nice and well-kept. But the swim-up bar is not open during the off-season, so couldn't even take full advantage of it. Our room was one of the newly remodeled ones, so it was nice. The beach is beautiful but not kept very clean. The nightly BBQ on the beach is fun and worth the money. No Internet connection except in the lobby. The food was not great. The service was extremely slow, but just realize you are on Bahamian time. There is also a BBQ in town once per week that is a great cultural experience, and the food is pretty good. Overall, it was a nice relaxing time with some frustrations. On the beach in the Caribbean, it's hard not to ignore the bad and just have a good time. But if you want luxury, go elsewhere.

The rooms are just bad. The bed is on a slab of concrete, no box spring. The rooms have a lock off door, but even when it is closed you here everything youre neighbors say and DO!!
Not much to do there.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs, and bug spray. The better rooms are in the Marlin, no view of the ocean.

Thank you for your recent candid review. The good news is that we have confirmed our refurbishment programs and have funded them – so we are now in the process of those tasks to improve the property overall.
I hope you consider on another visit to the island, a stay with us. We will be pleased to deliver a more contemporary product and service for you.

After reading some very poor reviews, we were worried about what we would find upon arrival. We were very pleasantly surprised. The overall resort itself is lovely and well kept up. The crews were out early every morning cleaning the awesome pool and grounds. The restaurant had a good selection of meals to choose from and the food was very good. I highly recommend the fish & chips - deep fried grouper, very moist with a light batter and seasoned fries. The Grotto swim up pool bar was a lot of fun and Dora, the bartender was great.

We had a one bedroom condo in the Marlin building (newest building) facing the pool. When we walked in the door both of us were very pleased with the amenities - full kitchen, large living room, decent sized bedroom with two closets, nice bathroom with walk-in shower, and a large balcony. Everything was clean and comfortable.

We took the ferry over to Port Lucaya three times during our week there, shopping at the many stores, the straw markets, lunch at Agave (the Cuban sandwich is great), dinner at Zorba's (also great), lost a few dollars at the casino, and thoroughly enjoyed our visits.

As to being bothered by a time share sales representative, our polite no thank you was all it took and we were not bothered for the rest of the week.

Although Taino Beach Resort offers many different activities available to keep you busy, but if you want to just sit back, relax, meet nice people, this is the place to go.

We will be back.

Room Tip: Stay in the Marlin building. It is the newest.

During my 4 day stay I saw 5 different rooms, all of which were flawed in one way or another. The first one facing the poolside was nice on first view, but the aircondition and faucet were leaking, the microwave was broken and it was VERY dirty under the bed. Also it was too cold all the time even when the AC was tunred off.
Despite complaing about it for 2 days nothing was fixed so I was offered different rooms all of which were facing the back towards the parking lot and a very loud building containing the central airconditionig unit. TV was not working correctly at the replacement rooms either and wifi was available only to the rooms facing the pool.

Also friday night was a rather loud and long pool-bar party which prevented me from having a good-night sleep.

I had a much better time at the Flamingo Bay Hotel next to the resort which is a lot cheaper and you can also use the resort pool, facilities & beach.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room at the Flamingo Bay Hotel & Marina at Taino Beach

Sometimes we don't know what to expect when we go out of the country, but this was ridiculous. We checked into the hotel and they changed our room from what they previously had. Later we learned that we were moved from a larger room with a true kitchenette to a hotel room that was very small. There was no phone in our room to either call our kids or the front desk. Every time we had a question or needed anything we had to walk to the front desk. We were told that they would take care of the problem. The next person would tell us that no one was allowed in our room without us being there. Of course they couldn't come when it was convenient for us. On day four a phone magically appeared in our room.
If you are expecting someone to make your bed and straighten your room you are wrong. There is no maid service. You have to go to the laundry to get fresh towels - if they have any!!
Oh, and by the way, your bed is a mattress on a concrete slab, not realy what I would call comfortable.
We did attend the bonfire and it was really cool, but not really worth the cost.
If you are going to be at this resort for any length of time I would recommend that you rent a car to get around.
My husband and I selected this hotel because it was part of a vacation package that we had purchased. The entire time that we were at the hotel they tried to sit down and talk to us about buying a vacation package with them.

Room Tip: Rooms off of the pool are larger
