I don't want to talk this place up too much so I want to start out this review with the negatives--it's not easy getting to Cat Island with just two flights a day on an airline that follows island time (that is, sometimes they leave early, sometimes they leave late). There's only one main road here and the side roads are rocky and bumpy. The nightlife and spa/casino amenities are almost non-existent. No phones or televisions in your room. No places to get kitchy trinkets for home! Pretty awful eh?

So, if you've gotten this far, you'll know those negatives are actually positives. Fernandez Bay Village is quiet, low-key, relaxed and hardly a "resort". It isn't Breezes, it isn't Sandals. If that's your cup of tea, I wouldn't recommend this place at all. If you're looking for quiet, uncomplicated and off the beaten path, you've found your place. FBV is situated on a pristine, beautiful, clean beach with the best sunset views. The beach is quiet without the pumping music and crowds typical of the Nassua/Paradise resorts.

If you want even more privacy, you can kayak to the beaches at the south end of the bay or into the creek where you will literally find not another soul. The kayaks, paddleboards etc are complimentary to use and the staff will recommend the best places for kayaking, exploring, snorkeling or doing nothing. They have fishing and snorkeling excursions and they know the island and it's surrounding waters intimately.

Speaking of the staff, they are absolutely wonderful. The Armbristers are some of the most wonderful hosts I have ever come across. Completely helpful, accommodating, dead social and kind. They set the tone for this relaxing island haven.

The food is amazing and all the meals we had were great. The grouper finger appetizers are to die for. Seriously.

Words are not enough to explain how great this place is. If you're the Atlantis big resort type person, that's great, but this place isn't for you. If you're looking for a place to truly unwind and do nothing, come here. I know we will again, and again........

My wife and I have been visiting Cat Island for a decade and, although this was our first stay at Fernandez Bay, it will not be our last. Situated on a beautiful and tranquil beach, the owners (long-time cat residents ) have created just the right balance for everyone. Families, couples, singles all mix comfortably, and privacy and quiet are always available, as is some company should you desire it. An "honor bar", never closed, is situated in the main "building", right near a wonderful space for relaxed indoor/outdoor dining. No phones, plenty of towels and kayaks, lots of relaxed vibe, and very friendly staff who quickly get you into the island groove. A long, clean, quiet beach with perfect Bahamian blue water is right outside your door. If you want a casino or tango lessons, this place is probably not for you.

We just returned from our fifth visit to Fernandez Bay Village. Clearly, we just can't get enough. If you are looking to disconnect, this is the place. No telephones or televisions in the rooms, there's Internet in the Clubhouse, but honestly if you are spending a single moment on an iPad, iPhone, iWhatever, you are missing out. Instead, I recommend the beach, the honor bar, the beach, the food, the beach, the evening bonfire, the beach.... Our favorite "room" is Shane's Shack, but this last time we visited with another couple and took the Beach House which was perfect! Our favorite things to do are read, snorkel, kayak, swim, play cards and board games, talk, laugh, eat and drink. Thanks to all of the happy and helpful FBV folks for another fabulous week away from it all! See you next year!!

Room Tip: Check out the website. The descriptions and photographs of various accommodations are entirely accur...

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Fernandez Bay Village and it was amazing. This is a truly rustic, comfortable, friendly, and relaxing heaven on earth. We had been leery of the Bahamas and all the "resorts" with casinos, tourists, and busy-ness. Our friends had visited FBV last year and fell in love with it and thought we would too, which we did. It is true, there isn't a lot to do or see on the Island, but we rented one of the FBV boats and traveled the south end of the Island which was so enjoyable. They offer snorkeling, bikes, sea kyaks so we certainly found enough to keep us occupied (when we wanted activity). The beauty lies in the mile long beach with hardly a soul on it, the "honor" bar (yes, people still trust today), the delicious meals and the owners, managers and staff are the most genuine people around. We even got a hug when we left for the airport! We will return.

Room Tip: We rented Point House-2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen and living room and it was perfect for two couple...

The owners and the entire staff (including Donna) are incredibly warm and hospitable. FBV has everything anybody could possibly need. Quiet, peace and total relaxation are the order of the day ! Food, the honor bar and the ambiance just could not be better.
While there check out Glass Beach at the North end. The sea glass is everywhere. Cat Island is truly unique with FBV at the top of the list. PEACE AND TRANQUILITY IN PARADISE.....

Room Tip: All the units are great. We have used Shane's Shack and Point House. Where in the world can you...

We first stayed here in 2003, we were looking for a thatched cottage on a beach.
FBV offers that and more with a casual but elegant open dining area, a lovely outside honor bar and a good mixture of American and Bahamian food.
The staff are friendly and very helpful just like all Cat Islanders. We fell in love with the island and have stayed here on several occasions since

Room Tip: Check out there web site for room locations! Some rooms on the beach might be a little less private

Experienced a very relaxed homestyle island retreat complete with camp fires at night and gorgeous sunsets. Bicycles were made available to explore the island of which there wasn't much to see aside from the deserted north beaches that went for miles and of course the Hermitage which is the only other thing to see on the island. If you want a place to escape to...this is it..No tvs just relaxing with a good book and an open bar....A big departure from the bustle of Nassau...

Room Tip: Shane's shack was ideally located..ask to be close to the main restaurant
