We have been to Hawks Nest 3 times in the past 10 years and love it for its remote beauty. Getting there isn't always smooth - we have missed connections before and had to spend the night in Nassau because the runway on Cat is small and at the time was not lit so no night flights could come in (not sure about now though). It is very remote so after a couple plane rides and a bumpy car ride, we were there. It is perfect for private/charter planes because they have their own airstrip at the resort - or by boat since the marina is georgous!
The water is so beautiful and you can walk to 3 different beaches and never see a soul! We took a boat to another private beach, had some Bahamian caught lobster, conch fritters, snorkeled, and kayaked in the mangroves. There was a car ride to the Hermitage, and a stop by a local woman's house who made baskets that we bought. It is soooo very remote and cool! I had never been deep sea fishing or scuba diving but we were in great hands and Randy hooked us up. He is an amazing instructor and we felt very safe. The dive was amazing, but I didn't like the sharks so much ;0) The rooms were very clean and the management super friendly and fun. I loved the honor system at the bar and you feel like you are one of the family when you are there. The waitresses are local ladies and they are "on island time" so don't expect them to hurry on your account. Just have another pina colada and relax! Those hammocks... and the lagoon is fabulous for shelling at low tide! Can't wait to go back!
