We recently traveled to Cat Island for the first time ever. After staying at Atlantis for a few days of craziness and fun we definitely needed a change of plae. Pigeon Cay Beach Club hit the mark right on. I loved that we had our own bungalow. It's not a typical hotel with rooms right next to each other, you actually have your own private house with a kitchen, bedroom, living room, bathroom and front porch literally overlooking the crystal clear turquoise waters.

The beauty of the island was really at our front doorstep. They have this awesome long white sand beach that is in front of the property. We walked for about an hour in one direction and didn't see another person. The hotel also has kayaks that you can take out and other beach items for you to use. We recreated the Corona commercial scene. Ya, that's the one, with just the beach chairs, the Coronas and the blue waters.

The staff was great there. Anything we needed they were there for us. The thing I liked the most is after a day at the beach they have this thatched roof bar where all of the hotel guests meet up for drinks and food. We met people from around the world and had an amazing time all night. We did hit a rain storm one night and somehow even that was fun. Everyone was at the bar with the rain pouring down on the patio as we sipped cocktails. It's the Bahamas so the temperature is great day and night.

We tried our hand at golf in front of the property. It was either the wind or the drinks but sticking to snorkeling was more my thing. The hotel is not far from the grocery store and even a local restaurant serving conch. (Better than you'd think).

We really only have positive things to say about our experience and we would defintely do it all over again. I can't wait until we get to come back again.

Room Tip: Each "room" is it's own bungalow. If you're closest to the entrance, you're c...

My wife and I have been to Pigeon Cay a few times. We haven't written a review because when you find a place as beautiful as this, preservation comes  to mind. You know the song.....kiss it goodbye. Well, it isn't fair to the gracious hosts of the Pigeon Cay, Ned and Leslie, who have built a lovely club in a lovely spot.

The accommodations here are cottages perched on a promenade above the beach, lined with casurina trees that love to whisper in the gentle breezes. The beach is a stone's throw away from your bed, with a weak arm, and what a pink beach it is. It’s miles long and you most likely will be the only one there, and maybe who ever you came with. The sparkling Caribbean is a welcoming sight and it is great stretch for swimming, as you can wade out to wherever your comfort level is and off you go.
Each cottage is quite private and unique. They are a mix of art and architecture with island touches throughout. All have decks with views, divine for coffee, cocktails, or viewing stars.

You can order meals in your room or eat out at the beach bar. The cuisine depends on the mood of the chef, and luckily it's always excellent, with interesting Island secrets included. Seafood choices depend on who is catching what, this includes, but is not limited to, land crab, sea crab, various types of snapper: hog, mutton, red, and the tasty grouper. Conch and lobster are available too. On occasion there will be an extravaganza meal off the wing of the beach bar, known as “the barn”, where whichever guests have the option to join or not. The food is served piping hot, the conversation lively, and often ends with a beach fire.

Snorkeling from Pigeon Cay is a walk down the beach or a bike ride away. Good reefs off the graveyard, alligator point and we spotted some sea turtles and parrot fish off the Pigeon Head just down the beach from the club.

Scuba diving is available at a resort north of Orange Creek, Frank is your host. There is beach diving or you can take a 3 mile boat ride out for a wall dive starting at 90'. They have all the gear you need. The highlight was a 5' barracuda, and of course it's always a thrill to work the edge of the wall.

The entertainment at Pigeon Cay is that of the natural sort, it's quiet and peaceful, the setting is that of a private island. It’s a great place for exploring on your own. It’s better than any nature film. You're the star.

Enjoy your castaway experience!

A week at Pigeon Cay is not enough!

My husband Ken and I found Pigeon Cay to be everything we hoped and more. Each cottage was unique and hightened the sense of island life. The natural beauty renewed and relaxed us.

Leslie and Ned were superb hosts. They were present to answer questions and offer advice but allowed us plenty of privacy, too. Pigeon Cay is a true reflection of their embrace of Cat Island as their chosen home and their respect for its people, nature and culture.

It was a pleasure and relief to leave most of the meal planning to Ned and to be served delectable breakfasts and dinners without having to give shopping or preparation a second thought. I'm waiting for "The Pigeon Cay Cookbook" but the chef's inspiration can't be written in a book!

We did a little exploring. Alligator Point, the Hermitage, a search for Flamingo Point, a glimpse of the Blue Hole. And I even got to sit in on the saw with the Rake 'n Scrape Band at Da Smoke Pot! Only scratched the surface. Everyone we met was justifiably proud of his/her home island and very welcoming.

We enjoyed meeting the other guests, too. It's easy to find common ground with the other folks who have chosed this very special destination and have engaging and spirited conversation. One couple declared Pigeon Cay and Cat Island "better than Fiji." But don't let that get around.

Pigeon Cay Beach Club is a place to leave your expectations on the tarmac and go with the flow. Soak in the sunshine, let the warm, turquoise waters wash over you, bathe in the pinks, oranges and reds of the sunsets, count the myriad stars above and remember how to just "be" again.

Irene and I had a wonderful time visiting Pigeon Cay this past week. We were looking for an experience as close to local living as possible. The comfort and beauty of what they have created at Pigeon Cay, so spoiled us that we did not leave to see much else of the beautiful Island.

The food was wonderful and creative, Ned definitely has a flair for blending traditional and island preparation that made each dinner an event worth anticipating as well as savoring.

The staff was helpful and engaging, and saw to our needs while imparting a sense of Island pace and attitude. Each personality was engaging and pleasurable to encounter. From the beginning with Danny at the airport to last day departure with him, we enjoyed the interaction with the owners, and the circle of Island Life that they have created for their guests.

In Island wisdom, " if God gives us enough tomorrow's we will be there again."

Thank you for a fantastic experience!

I am a little late with this review since we went in October 2012 . We have been to a lot of small out of the way places in the Caribbean. We like small resorts with only a few cabins or rooms. This was our second favorite place e have been to yet (staniel cay is always our first). We stayed at Pigeon Cay for 7 days and were the only guests at the resort for 4 of the 7 days. On friday night thru monday morning, there was one other couple. This was the off season for sure but this was perfect for us. There was a small tropical depression about 20 miles out into the Atlantic side so the atlantic side of the island was very rough. The caribbean side was as still as a pond with barely a ripple. Ned and leslie are really genuine people who will do most anything to help you. If you want massages and to be pampered, go to Nassau. If you dont like your partner, go to Nassau. If you just enjoy being with the person you are going with, go to Cat Island. My wife and I had a blast at Pigeon Cay and Cat Island. There is no TV which is what we prefer.. We hate even going to a place with a TV if we can help it.

CAT ISLAND PEOPLE
Like I said above, we have been to a lot of the Caribbean, USVI, BVI, Barbabdos, Bequia, Bermuda, St Vincent, The Grenadines, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, Mexico, and just about all of the Out Islands. The people on Cat Island will literally blow you away with how genuinely nice they are. People who have nothing to gain at all from you will do anything to help you. We were lost trying to find this hidden beach on the Atlantic side (which when we found had the most amazing sea glass ever), the man we stopped was an elderly man and he almost insisted to go and show us exactly where it was at. We convinced him we could find it (a side note, his directions included "you will go past the second herd of goats you see and the beach is just beyond that"...pretty sure I will never hear that again in this life..Sure enough, past the second herd of goats we came to the beach. You have to see it for yourself to see how nice they are.

BEACHES
The beach is amazing. The beach is 5 to 6 miles long and we were the only people on the entire beach for almost the entire time. Ned, Leslie, and their boys would come out for a swim in the afternoons and that was about it. Look at the photos, they say more than any description can.

ALLIGATOR CREEK
You can access Alligator creek from the backside of the Pigeon Cay property. This is probably a 3 to 4 mile trip and it was tiring but fun. I saw huge sea turtles and dolphins in Alligator Creek when we got there. Look at some of the creek photos.

FOOD
The only thing some people may want to know about the food is that they dont cook every night at Pigeon Cay. They cook dinner on nights when a new guest arrives only. Its not a big deal because even in the off season there are other restaurants nearby. Halverson House was very good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yardies has a great steamed lobster dish and conch salad, and just about anything she cooks is great. All the food at Pigeon Cay was very good. Leslie would cook a light breakfast with fruit and pastry. They do not serve lunch but we typically ate a late lunch and an early dinner with maybe a sandwich in between. There are 2 grocery stores (more like the size of a convenience store in the states) and a liquor store so we bought snacks and sandwich items on the way in from the airport. The food is not 5 star anywhere on the island but you will not give it a second thought because this is an unbelievable place. (there are a lot of bugs at dusk for about an hour but they go away for the most part after dark)

Room Tip: All of the rooms have a good view and I would stay in any of them. We did stay in the one over the o...
