“Restful, restorative, intimate”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

The warmth found at Pigeon Cay is not only from the beautiful weather, but also from all the people you meet, staff, guests and islanders. No matter where you are coming from, your body, mind and spirit will be renewed by the beauty you can see from your cottage windows, walking the beach, and exploring the island. If you are looking for night life or a resort that pampers your every whim, this beach club is not for you. If you are looking to be welcomed into pure and simple island life, you can't find a more genuine experience. A delightful gathering place each afternoon is the well stocked tiki bar and the food served at the evening meal is excellent. All this accompanied by breathtaking sunsets. We flew into New Bight airport (slightly farther away than Arthur's Town) however, it afforded us the ability to stop at the local convenience store to pick up breakfast and lunch foods to have in our own kitchen. If you don't have this opportunity coming in, Ned or Leslie will see that you get there the next day. Keep in mind all items for purchase must be shipped in, consequently prices are much higher than in the US. There is minimal shopping on the island but needs are few while there. Pack light, you will not need anything beyond very casual clothing. A couple staying there with their three boys renewed their wedding vows at an abandoned church Ned restored. All the guests were invited to be their witnesses, informal but a joyful occasion. It is within walking distance and a great place for meditation and photos. The Hermitage at Mount Alvernia is also a must to visit, but renting a car is needed to visit there on the south end of the island. We definitely would return.

Room Tip: There are two rooms which do no have ocean view.

Upon arrival to Cat Island, all of your senses are heightened, in a way that is unnervingly unnatural. In the years you have spent in the city, you have dulled... Pigeon Cay is now here to wake you up.

All of your senses are awakened. Sight, touch, taste, smell, sound.

Sight: The ocean before you is indescribable. From the furthest horizon you see a deep nearly-black blue line showing the natural curve of the earth. The deep purple extends closer to you, turning a sapphire blue into aquamarine and finally, a light pale green, just before the waves start - the tops of them crashing down white onto the tan powdery sand, ending in soapy traces. These waters are visible for as far as the eye can see.

Touch: From the powder soft sand between your toes - so soft, you sink into it ankle deep, like powdered sugar on crisp French toast. Moving up your body, the warm sun caresses your skin, browning it as time passes, slowly like a dying fire. Before your skin becomes too hot, the wind blows across it, cooling it to comfort. You pass quickly over the soft sand and cannot wait until your suffocated shoe-stuffed feet can be baptized by the crystalline waters of the deep sea. At first you are hesitant, frightened by the thought of freezing waters and goose-bumped skin. Your hesitancy is unfounded, as the wet is comfortable, serene, and smile-enducing.

Taste: After slipping your feet in, you cannot help but go deeper, wanting the caress of the water over your slightly damp, sweaty skin. With the water before you, suddenly the humidity is too unbearable - it will cure your ailment. Your enthusiasm almost gets the best of you, as the water swallows you in. Your body becomes alive, arms moving in the water in what should be a natural swim. Unfortunately, years of meetings and sitting in front of a computer have created a creaky form, but with the beauty you have surrounding you, it does not matter. The ocean is forgiving. The sand beneath you, waving and billowing as the waves push forth and recede, allows you to feel firm in your lesson...your body will become knowledgeable again. Just before you envelop yourself in the cool crispness, you lick your lips, tasting the salty brine and the smile cannot escape your lips.

Smell: Much like that dying fire from the sun on your skin, your sense of smell is awakened by smoke. While at first it feels uncomfortable, you realize it is only because your sense of smell has dulled in bland conference rooms, over air conditioned offices and stale manufactured existence. Suddenly here, your nose is awakened with the smoldering brush that the locals use as natural bug deterrent.

Sound: Most jarring of all, is the sound. The crashing waves against the beach feels louder than jet-planes. Almost unbearable, it doesn't stop, doesn't allow for a moment of reprieve...until you realize - this is the constant of the world, of Mother Nature, of the Earth. Long before you found this slice of paradise, long after you leave it's bosom, it will remain. The ebb and flow of the water will continue. It will not stop for you, but it will always wait for you to return. As suddenly as you found it, you think to yourself, "How can I stay longer?" You know that no amount of time that you stay will be enough.

After your body returns to itself, you look behind you. The oasis that is Pigeon Cay is ready for exploration. Your everyday worries rear their ugly heads again - where will I sleep? What will I eat? What is this place?

The closest to the ocean is a round bar and giant table. The bar hosts alcohol, soft drinks, and various sunscreens, all on a honor system. What you take, you write down. A simplistic quaint system that reminds you - this isn't home. It works, and that is what matters. The island is a place of getting by. The giant table, you will later find out, is where delicious meals will greet you, along with new friends. Everyone meets one another at dinners, bonding over the secret locale you have discovered together. While you can share your deepest thoughts of this paradise, you know these are only the people who will truly understand. Your friends at home will not believe, will not be able to understand...these strangers are suddenly closer to you than your oldest comrades. They have experienced Pigeon Cay.

You stumble across your bungalow, where your luggage waits to be dealt with. Suddenly, where once you would unpack your clothes, and stack your toiletries by the sink, this mundane task is completely unimportant. You know now, the next day, week, these items don't matter. The only thing you will need is a bathing suit and a smile.

The bungalow meets every need that you have. The couches are comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped (is that a dishwasher?), and the beds are inviting. In the corner you spy a small flatscreen tv, but it just brings a smirk to your face. That thing will never see power. Off the bedroom, there is a cozy bathroom. The tiles that pepper the vanity are beautiful, and have been laid by hand, you find out, by Ned, one of the owners of this slice of heaven.

Speaking of the owners, once you return outside, Leslie greets you with a warm smile, and a soft handshake. She has allowed you to become one with the facilities, knowing that it takes time for someone to fully comprehend the place that she simply calls home. While you are not sure you will ever be fully appreciative of its existence, you appreciate her kindness. You will discover that Leslie is nothing but kind. Soft-spoken, she always has an open ear and a smile. If you need anything, she is willing to help, from offering drinks, food, or even some suggestions of the island that she loves with appreciation. The first thing you ask: "Can I stay longer" is met with a smile, gentle laugh, and a nod. She will do whatever she can to make her customers happy, even if it means finding another place on the island - knowing that the happiness is most important, both for the betterment of her resort, and for the island as a whole.

Pigeon Cay is like a dream. The cover of travel magazines boast vast deep blue oceans, with white sanded beaches - but no cover story could touch the magnificence that is here. Anyone who is lucky enough to land at Pigeon Cay will only want to return as fast as possible.

What an amazing trip back to Pigeon Cay beach club. My all time favorite place to relax and recharge my batteries. We are always treated like family here and everyone else at the resort says the same thing. I have always loved the service and amenities here and this trip was no exception. Beautiful, clean spacious rooms, the food is great and you can't get better service anywhere else. I traveled with my service dog and the owners Ned & Leslie helped me with the process from start to finish. They have two dogs there as well & they all got along so well, they played and swam together and that actually was the best part of my trip this time.
I give this resort a ten!! Thanks for making my vacation the best ever!

Room Tip: I have stayed in many different rooms and they have all been great.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Beach Club. It always amazes me at how soft the sand is on that beautiful stretch of beach. And the color is this light tan with a wash of pink. The color of the water is a blend of blues that astounds your comprehension of what water should look like. And the constant rhythmic pulsing of the waves, lapping on the shore, lulls you into some dreamy never never land. Wow, its awesome.

Owners Leslie & Ned went about above and beyond to ensure our first visit to Cat Island was memorable! My husband and I have travelled extensively throughout the Family islands over the past 15 years, and Cat island has the peace and serenity of one the most untouched and beautiful islands in the chain.

Typically we rent small apartments or cottages, but decided to stay at this small resort. What a great pleasure it was to stay there. We cooked some of our dinners, and enjoyed meals with the rest of the guests. The food was outstanding, and you can join in on the fun of the other travellers you meet, or maintain privacy.....whichever you choose. The beautiful white sand beach is within 50 yards and the sound of the waves put me perfectly to sleep each night. The rooms were spacious, clean and had beautifully tiled touches throughout. Honestly one of the nicest and charming cottages we have ever stayed in.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pigeon Cay, and intend on returning next year as well.

For the past three years we contemplated going to Cat Island.
Why did we wait so long?
As soon as we landed on Cat Island soil we were welcomed the Bahamian way to a life of simplicity.
Upon arrival at Pidgeon Cay Beach Club (PCBC) the owners, Leslie and Ned were waiting for us and our Little House was all set and ready.
We were immediately attracted to the beach…within 5 minutes my feet were in the warm, clear, salty and calm sea.
For a really quiet place, paradis of relaxation and contemplation of natures gifts…and why not a cold local beer KALIK
Crowd junkies you better stay elsewhere.

We recommend PCBC to all who love sea, sand and tranquility

So wonderful, Leslie and Ned are perfect hosts! giving great info! directions to cool places, upgrading us though the Sea Studio was fine. Providing very good food and giving us some condiments for our home cooked meals. We shared the car rental one day with another couple we met and had a fun day topped off by an evening at Da Smoke Pot, got take out another evening from Yardies. We had warmth and great seas and sand. Yes there are bugs to deal with...no see ums who love me but left my husband alone...still worth it. If you are not looking for lots to do this island is for you, but there are kayaks, bikes and other beach toys.
