NOTE TO TRIPADVISOR STAFF: This hotel appears to be miscategorized as 'specialty lodging'. Based on other resorts of similar size,
amenities and location in the area and their category, I would recommend changing tailwinds to a 'Hotel". I found it difficult to find this resort on tripadvisor without specifically searching for it.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Tail Winds.
Our experience began when we got off the plane in Arthurs Town. David, the resort manager was waiting for us and helped us with our bags and gave us a ride to Tail Winds. The resort is about 20 minutes from the ariport. About halfway there the asphalt ends and we travel on a gravel road. The dirt road adds to the feeling of remoteness and the area north of the asphalt quickly became our favorite part of the island.
After a quick check in, we were shown to our room - "Flap House". The ocean views from the rooms are fantastic. The only place we couldn't see the ocean was from the shower! The room was bright and very clean. It was a good size, with a king size bed, kitchen area, couch, flat screen TV, and table for two. The main part of the bathroom has a glass door that opens to a large enclosed shower with no roof. It was great taking a shower with the warm sun and blue skies above. AC was good when needed, especially when taking a break from the hot sun in the afternoon.
One of the best things was waking up in the morning to the sound of waves breaking on the beach. From our room, we walk out onto the deck, down a few steps and on the path past the tiki bar right to the beach. Total time from the room to the beach is about 30 seconds!
The beach was the best. Nice sand, and clear water right in front of the resort. There are a few private houses in the area and also Shanna's Cove Resort. Occasionally we would see another couple, but the beach was deserted most of the time. We walked about 3 miles south one day and did not see anyone.
We did some snorkeling right off the beach. Saw a bunch of colorful fish including some tang, a lionfish, snapper and few others. It was good, but not the best, because the reef is rather small. But it's so close and easy to get to that we checked it out multiple times. There are other places to go if you have more time. Snorkeling equipment is available at tailwinds for no charge.
The tiki bar is a great place to get out of the sun and have a drink and a great place to relax in the evening as well. Make sure you try a 'Tailwinds Punch' which I helped invent!
We really enjoyed the pool. It's a great place to cool off if you're tired of swimming in the beautiful ocean. Even better to enjoy a drink with the massage jets working their magic.
Tail Winds restaurant has standard offerings for breakfast that was very good (eggs/bacon/toast/muffins/fruit/etc). Dinner was great - one night we had snapper with rice and veggies and it was delicious. It's best to arrange meals at least a few hours in advance as is the case with most resorts in the area.
The owner and manager really went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Rich (the owner), took us out to explore the northern part of the island - in his 1940's Jeep. It was awesome. We traveled a lot of gravel roads to places few visitors to Cat Island will see. We stopped to see a blue hole; drove across the island to see the Atlantic ocean and beach; and a few other spots. Our favorite was a stop at a cave where we went in to explore. We went in with a flashlight and had to squat and squeeze through some tight spots before reaching a larger cavern with hundreds of bats. This stuff was all way off the beaten path and a fantastic experience.
Tail Winds is a fantastic remote resort on a secluded beach - very highly recommended!
