We planned our day out on the island around stopping for some conch salad at Yardie’s, and we are most glad that we did! Yardie’s is right on the Queen’s Highway (the ONLY highway) in Bennett’s Harbor. Odette offers a full menu full of local treats, from small snacks, various Jerk dishes, and larger entrée meals as well. We first met Derek at his “conch shack and seafood emporium” out front, where we ordered a conch salad and watched the expert go to work making his delicious and fresh specialty. We opted for some spice in ours, and he added some bird pepper to the mix. Top it off with wonderfully fresh conch, fresh veggies, and lime juice, and we were bestowed the most beautiful and large bowl of conch salad. This was the first time trying this for both of us, and we were absolutely delighted with the mixture of flavors. As it marinated while we were waiting on an order of Odette’s conch fritters, the flavor got even better. We ordered a few, very cold Kaliks to go with our midday meal and relished each bit of it to the last bite. Odette and Derek were very sweet, and we enjoyed getting a bit of time to converse with Odette and get to know her a bit more in our short time there. This is a wonderful option for fantastic local food from terrific people. They also conveniently have a gas pump to top off your tank, and Derek offers diverse tour programs and boating excursions. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Odette and Derek at Yardie’s. Make sure you get the conch salad and a t-shirt!
