“Time of my life as usual.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We met Ben and Clare last year on our trip to Exuma. We thought they were so great that we came back to Exuma this year, just because we wanted to stay with them. We have never done the same vacation 2 years in a row before.
We were not disappointed . They just go above and beyond the call of duty 24 hours a day to make sure all their guests are happy. They are so personable that they make you feel like family. The fact that they have worked in the hospitality business throughout their life's is very apparent.
The work they have accomplished on the building in one year is very impressive.
The rooms are not fancy, but clean and quaint with an excellent view of the ocean. The beach is our favorite on the island. There is a beautiful reef there for snorkeling too if you have fins and are a decent swimmer. Recently they added kayaks for guest to use which is a very nice touch.
When we are on vacation we love to meet new people and get a true feeling of the culture. If you go here you will meet the nicest people ever, travelers and locals alike. Exuma in general is a great place for that, but we always meet the most interesting people at the Palms.this a great place to go to get a genuine Exuma experience. It is also a great value and the place is getting better and better.

It was difficult to ignore some of the nasty comments and pictures people had posted about Exuma Palms, but we decided to give the hotel a chance anyway -- and I'm really glad we did. My first impression wasn't the best: check in was a little disorganized, the keychain for our room was broken, the bathroom wasn't like the Hyatt, but once I stepped onto the balcony and saw the turquoise blue waters, all perspective came into focus. I wasn't at the Hyatt. Or at Sandals. I was at a small, beachside hotel on a small island, an island that doesn't have a Target if you need to go out and buy a new shower curtain or keychain. So I looked at the room with new eyes. The beds had goose-down comforters and feather pillows; there was a ceiling fan and an air conditioner (the latter we used only at night as the fan and the open sliding glass door kept it plenty cool in the room); we had a flat-screen TV, a microwave, and a refrigerator; and unlike the Hyatt, we had free wifi. But beyond all of that, there was the view, the swaying palm trees, the white-capped waves on the teal sea. Who cared about the room? I stayed on the balcony most of the time I was at the hotel.

The beach was steps away, though during our visit the waves were a little rough. Still, rough waves in blue waters are better than work. The sand was clean, and the hotel had kayaks (fun!) and plenty of lounge chairs.

The on-site restaurant was outstanding (I reviewed it separately), and my husband said the rum punch from the bar was also quite good. Ben and Clare, the hard-working folks who own and manage and do pretty much everything at the hotel, are great people. It seems everyone on the island knows them. If I mentioned where I was staying, I would immediately hear, "oh yeah! Hey! Tell Ben and Clare I said hello!" Or "Ben and Clare... Good people!" You can't buy that kind of advertisement.

Clare took care of arranging an excellent boat tour for us with Coastline Adventures (reviewed separately); she arranged for our car rental (and even made sure we weren't overcharged); and she made sure we had breakfast when we had to leave extra early one morning.

Now, some issues: As mentioned before, we lived on the balcony when we were at the hotel. However, the woman next to us was a smoker, and the wind was coming from her direction, thereby covering us in smoke every 30 minutes or so. Our suggestion would be to put the "smoking balconies" at the far end of the hotel so that problem could be avoided.

Another issue was the hammocks. With the hotel so close to the Tropic of Cancer, guests really need a shady place to relax that's closer to the beach (Bali beds?). The balconies are good, but it's nice to be even closer to the water.

As a whole, Exuma Palms is a great hotel, and if we were to return to the island we would stay there again. The location is central, the beach view is spectacular, and the restaurant is outstanding. My first three nights there I actually slept a full eight hours. Any place that can coax that kind of relaxation out of me deserves my highest praise.

I couldn't wait to write our review. We have been here 2 days and have been so pampered and spoiled. We were fortunate enough to hang out with Ben and Clair on their time off. We went too chat and chill on enricos boat, ate the freshest conch salad and fun floating in the water on our rafts. I think everyone from the hotel went. We met a lot of fun people. We visited pease and plenty for one of the best piña coladas I ever had. The rooms were perfect and so clean. Food is excellent. Make sure you bring a dog treat or toy for revella the female dog. You can't find that stuff here and it's so expensive. Ben and Clair are working really hard and have a big heart.

We spent one week in this beautiful hotel. It's a nice, small hotel with 12 oceanview rooms. You can sit on your balcony and enjoy the view or spent your time at the beach. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and most of the time we were the only ones there. The onsite "blu" restaurant has great food- Ben is a great chef!!! The hosts Clare and Ben are great and super friendly as well as everybody working there. The hotel has the perfect location and we didnt miss one thing. It was just paradise!

Stop by to talk to Clare and she told us about the Sunday Buffet. We came back later that evening. It was great and the keyboard player entertaining. The rum bunch was the best on the island.

We didn't stay at the hotel but we would like to next time. The beach was beautiful and the rooms looked great.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. We also don't care for resorts. This was the perfect place and all that we needed. Frankly, we were a little disappointed at first with the location and the first impression of the hotel was not great but we were quickly swept off our feet. The beach behind the hotel is amazing on a calm day. Snorkel to the three sisters. It's amazing. We ate at the restaurant nearly everyday. You won't find better food anywhere else. We tried some other local Bahamian places but most of the food is fried and quite bland. Ben is a fantastic cook. We ran into bad luck with the weather and if it weren't for the great food and drinks at Exuma Palms, we would have lost our minds. Don't expect perfection. It's a little motel on an island and NOT a Sandals. Just what we were looking for.

We stayed at Exuma Palms for five nights at the end of may / beginning of june and had a great time. This is a place for people who want to get away from big resorts and cruise ships, and for travellers who like to explore and are not fussy. Don't expect 5 star rooms but they are clean, big, and very very comfortable. There's satellite tv and towels etc are changed everyday. We were very happy with the room and the place is very affordable. You get your own balcony overlooking the beach. It's perfect, we don't ask for anything more. The food is amazing. Ben is a great chef. Hosts ben and clare are fantastic, and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable even though we had two bad days of weather. The beach is absolutely stunning, and great for a morning swim/run if your into that. You can walk down without seeing a single person. I would suggest you rent a car - you will most definitely need it to get around and taxi's are ridiculously expensive! Ben is very knowledgeable about the island and will give you some tips to go to other beaches around the island, which, again, are stunning and your likely not to see a footprint in the sand. Exuma is an island you need to explore - if you like sitting in a hotel room, swimming in a pool and being constantly catered for don't stay here. To be honest if that's what you want, you probably shouldn't even be on Exuma at all. The place is absolutely stunning, we had a great time. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor, better view of the ocean
