Stocking Island is a nice place to go for a day from George Town, Exuma. The boat taxi leaves from the Pier at every hour starting at 10:00 am though I was told that if they only have 1 person you have to wait till more people show up. It is $12.00 cash round trip and it takes only 10 minutes to get to Stocking Island. They stop at Chat 'N' Chill restaurant by the beach on the right, with free benches and tables under the shade. It is worth to walk to the Atlantic side of the island, just walk to the right, cross the small channel of water at the point, depending on the tide it can be at waist high or chest high, follow the gentle hiking path and take a refreshing dip in the Atlantic, close to the shore to avoid currents. Make sure you bring water to drink because it is hot, you get thirsty and there iare no facilities there. On the Atlantic side if you keep walking to the left facing the water you will see stromatolites popping out of the sand in the water, kind of ancient reefs made of oxygen producing microorganisms, instead of coral, only found here and in Australia. If you continue walking, past some houses, there is a hiking path by a garbage can, which is not marked, that takes you through deep vegetation to a beach on the other side connected to a lagoon. I liked the hiking, but not the beach with some sea weeds on the bottom. I am not sure if when you get back on the Atlantic side if continuing walking left there would be a pink sand beach. I just returned to Chat 'N' Chill. I got a small conch salad from the stand where they feed the manta rays and then I had the local, delicious grilled hog fish at the restaurant with their special drink. Then I walked to the left to reach sand dollar beach, very warm, calm and shallow, beautiful.
