“Spectacular!”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

Spent 6 nights here on our honeymoon and loved every moment of it! The grounds and gardens are presented and maintained beautifully. The staff are all lovely and super helpful. The rooms are amazing, very large and well appointed. Was very handy to have a full size kitchen for breakfasts and snacks. We had a beautiful view out to the marina from our balcony. The golf cart is unnecessary but a very fun little novelty. The pool area is excellent and we spent a lot of time lounging around there. Ate at the Palapa restaurant probably half a dozen times and had perfect meals every time, plus we didn't get sick of the menu. I hope to get back to Exumas one day and wouldn't think twice about staying here again.

Facilities are top-notch. Transfer to/from the airport, while on your own, is easy. The pool is lovely, the villas well-maintained, and the grounds and beach are kept about as close to spotless as you can get.

Food in the Palapa restaurant (your only real choice unless you cook for yourself) is good, and so is the service. Drinks are served in plastic barware (so you get the "right" shape for your martini and can't break the glass should you accidentally knock it over). Beware breakfast - the restaurant (and the pool) overlooks part of the neighboring Sandals resort's golf course, which is watered each morning with "grey" water. If the wind is right, you and all your food get a good spraying down.

Activities - there are beachfront toys (kayaks, etc) available on site. As we were waiting for our departure taxi we heard someone mention there's a concierge desk. Really? News to us... and to all our friends who had stayed here ahead of us. But apparently there is - just not well-publicized. Likewise the multiple folders at the reception desk with available charters, etc. Unusual for a resort, no one is going to offer these to you (or even draw your attention to them). If you want to "do stuff" off-resort, you'll need to be a self-starter and take action for yourself. Having said all that, the reception staff is always ready to assist you - just ask!

There were always lots of people around - couples, families, and some with very young kids - but it never felt like it was crowded. Reservations for dinner are required; make them early in the day (by noon) to ensure you get the table time you want. We had to wait for seating one evening; there were plenty of open tables, but they work to even out the workload on the kitchen so they don't get slammed all at once.

Wine and alcohol lists are good - plenty from which to choose. Prices may be a bit steeper than you're used to at other resorts ($5 for a small local beer and almost $15 for a classic cocktail with call liquor).

We had a good time here, and recommend it - as long as you have your eyes open going in and know what to expect up front.

As a professional beach volleyball athlete, I have travelled to beaches all over the world and I can honestly say the beaches at Grand Isle and Exuma are superior. The sand is fine and white. The colour of the water looks fake, its so beautiful. The beach is clean, with warm calm water. The quality of the Villas themselves are impeccable as they are luxurious with high-end furniture and fixtures. The food at the Palapa Grill is incredibly delicious as they offer genuine taste of bahamian and american cuisine. The service was friendly, quick and not notch in general. The whole experience overall was very impressive. I would highly recommend it anyone who enjoys or is accustomed a high end quality of life and experiences.

We have been to this special place every winter for the past eight years and it just keeps getting better and better. In the past there were a few weak spots and they have all been greatly improved. For example the Palapa restaurant which was, at best, so-so a few years back is now the best on the island. The personel throughout the facility are now better than ever. Add to that the beautiful location right on the azure blue ocean with what are surely the best rooms/villas in all the Bahamas and you have a place to gladly return to year after year.

This is a special place that can be enjoyed by families, couples, and small groups. I had the pleasure of spending three nights at the resort and while I had high expectations going in, this Bahamas vacation exceeded expectations. Starting with the resort itself, the grounds were meticulously cared for, the rooms incredible - my 1 BR villa had a terrific view of the clear blue waters and was huge! The staff was super friendly and made it a point to remember my name throughout the trip. The pool was amazing, the food delicious and under-priced, and service was great.

Now to experience life on the water in the Exumas. I've never seen water quite like it and there were excursions galore. The concierge pointed me in the right direction and was so accommodating.

I could go on and on....but do yourself a favor and book the trip. you won't regret it.

Had a wonderful family vacation in Exuma at the Grand Isle. The Bahamians are so friendly, it makes for a relaxing and hassle free experience. The location of the Grand Isle is perfect for a beach vacation; the white sands and amazing blue waters entice you from most windows. Grand Isle is well appointed, from the full size kitchens, Subzero refrigerators, large bedrooms and closets, and luxe bathrooms. Some of the condominiums that comprise the Grand Isle are a little older than others--our unit had some bare patches on the hand railings and the porch furniture is sun bleached--but it's still well maintained and suitable for a place that charges more than 500$US per night for two bedrooms.

The resort amenities are good but a bit limited. The beach section is spacious and sandy and has an ample number of chairs and chaise longue; get there earlier if you want an umbrella. The resort loans out towels, kayaks, boards, and snorkeling gear for all-day fun. The biting sand fleas come out when the sun starts to go down, so you'll want to get to the pool area before then. The resort has a small spa but make reservations early in your stay to make sure you can get in. Food at the Palapa Grill is good but expensive and options off site are limited unless you have rented a car. Your unit comes with a golf cart to zip around in, but other than getting over to the Sandals resort next door or the liquor store across the street, I'm not sure where you'd go with it. Renting a car is probably a good idea if you want to see more of the islands, as long as you're OK with driving on the opposite side of narrow two-lane roads. Cabs are pretty expensive and some of the places to visit are 30 minute drives from the resort. Grand Isle provides concierge services to make recommendations or to arrange day tours around the islands.

I can't say enough about how friendly the staff are and Bahamians in general are. You feel safe and secure on the resort and comfortable about letting your children run around on their own. Going off site is fine; no one is hawking t-shirts on the beaches or bothering tourists in the streets like you might find in other parts of the world. Exuma is very low key and the people greet you with a warm smile everywhere. I can't wait to come back.

This place is great for families, singles and even with groups of friends. You will go to Exuma for relaxation or some of the best water activities like swimming with the pigs, fishing or boating. If you go, you must also try the Bahamian food and a Kalik!

Room Tip: If possible one with a view of the ocean.
