“Best Family Getaway in Paradise”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Amazing resort with huge suites that include a full kitchen, bath, Jacuzzi, patio, and ultra luxurious. We saw an amazing deal on Travelzoo, only 50 minute flight from Miami, and thought quick, relaxing getaway. It is truly the best property in Exuma. The staff is amazing and oh so friendly. They treated us like royalty and knew us by name, especially my daughter. They catered to our every need and made us feel at home. With such a gorgeous suite, I would recommend if you are traveling with a family to work with concierge and order groceries because there is nothing around there and if you wanted to buy something, it's far and you also have to hope that it is open. Otherwise, the restaurant was delicious and had a spectacular view with all the drinks you can consume! We will definitely go back!

Room Tip: If you can score an ocean view, that would be best. However, the garden view units were great!

Beautiful resort. We stayed for 6 nights, 7 days. Let me start off by saying that the concierge service was superb! Any questions were answered promptly, and they were very helpful in arranging airport pickup and drop off especially with flight delays. The people that worked at the front desk were friendly, and ready with answers or recommendations for activities, beaches, and dining. The time of year we went was the start of the off season, so there were not many activities to do that you would find at the height of the season. However, for us, we were there for a relaxing beach vacation, and had just that. The beach is small, but right next to the villas and just steps away from their restaurant and pool. Shared beach with the Sandals resort (You'll pay at least triple if you stay there, BTW). Try the beach 10 min drive/taxi up the road Cocoa Plum, very beautiful. No fees for either beach. Even though this place is not all inclusive, we paid under $100 for dinner, including drinks, lunch was around $30-45 at the Pallapa Grill there. Excellent food, (we ended up just eating there the whole time, convenient and delicious) timely service, good variety, however not a lot of vegetarian options. They were diligent in accommodation of our food allergies. Oh, everything at the restaurant was high end brand names too like San Peligrino and Fiji waters, right down to Irish Butter. The Grill looks over their infinity pool, which overlooks their beach. Wonderful drinking coffee out there in the morning with the breeze. The staff played games in the pool with some of the guests' children to keep them entertained. The Villa is high end: marble everywhere, central air, kitchen with everything included -- you can get the grocery delivery service, charged a fee plus groceries. The bathroom was huge with soaking tub, separate shower, double sinks, washer/dryer. Comfortable bed, separate sitting area from dining area. We got a garden view room, came with a small patio with two chairs and a table. Took 20 leisurely steps to walk the length. Viewed palm trees and the golf course... beach is steps away, don't pay extra for the ocean view. You won't regret staying in the garden view. Promise. They had a music night and a bonfire with Junakoo on the beach. This is not a touristy place, so if you like being a tourist, you may not like this place very well. They did not have a big gift shop, only a few shirts and bags, and sunscreen. If you want relaxing, good food, luxury accommodations, and the beach, book now. We were very well pleased with our stay. Don't believe any of the negative reviews you may read. Some people are just never satisfied. Try the snorkeling tour with Neville. Oh, and if you are looking to do a wedding there, they just started holding them for small groups- we saw the second one taking place... pretty little set up on the beach with white folding chairs and colorful archway.

Room Tip: Garden view is still nice, don't pay extra for ocean view as you are steps from the beach.

This is a true island getaway...luxurous villas, authentic Bahamian food (fish tacos a must!), lush landscape and panoramic views of the sea and the landscape. This resort has all the ammenities of a large property with the a private feel. It is staffed with native Bahamians that make the environment so warm and welcoming. My villa was in a perfect location for a one bedroom ocean view and was closeby to the restaurant, pool and beach (Villa 1524). The Palapa grill was the perfect place for drinks and meals and the prices were very reasonable. (Most exotic drinks were $7...try the famous Goombay Smash!).

The resort did a fabulous job hosting my daughters's destination wedding. We had 40 guests and the layout was perfect. A beach wedding was followed by appetizers and drinks in the Patio. The layout was so natural and blended with the beautiful surroundings. The meal occured under the stars with native music playing in the background.(Grouper is another favorite).

Walk to the nearby Sandals resort if you want a "cruise ship on land" type of experience where sun bathers are at an arm's distance and the crowds are dense. If you are like me, you will rush back to the quiet Paradise of Grand Isle and relax on the beach, float in the pool, or simply enjoy all the amenities of your fully equipped Villa. It is easy to arrange an excursion to visit the 365 cays of this island and swim with the pigs...I was in Exuma for a full week and was perfectly content hanging out in the tranquility of this lovely resort marking an occasion that I will forever hold near and dear to my heart.

Room Tip: Ocean view can mean different things. Steer clear of the marina side. Villa 15 (second floor) has...

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in March. We had a beautiful room on the golf course. Very luxurious and spacious. Just superb! Loved the whirlpool tub, the comfortable bed and the nice kitchen. Beautifully decorated!

The provide golf carts with your villa, so it was a lot of fun cruising around the property on our golf cart. Nice touch!

There is only one restaurant on the property, but it is very good. Every meal we had there was excellent. The drinks were also very good. I found the prices to be reasonable. The restaurant manager and staff were very friendly and attentive. One night they had a live band, which was fun.

The beach here is beautiful. They provide paddle boards and canoes and offer poolside/beach service. Nothing like a long sandy beach in the Bahamas...!

A few negatives:

I did find this property to be very family oriented, so it was difficult to find a quiet spot by the pool. There were a lot of kids running all over the place. Not good if you want to just relax by the pool and read a book. The pool itself was also very crowded with kids. So we spent most of the time at the beach. Be aware of the mosqutos! Bring insect repellent! We both ended up with a lot of bites.

We had a few issues with the front office. They were not very accommodating. We had an issue with our air conditioning and we contacted them to fix it. They took a long time to address the problem and then informed us at 8:30 at night that we'd just have to wait until the next morning. We had already been without A/C since the day before (and called them multiple times), so that was not acceptable. It was very hot! The front desk person I spoke with said there was nothing that could be done. They were able to fix it while we were at dinner, but the situation was just not handled very professionally. Additionally, when we requested a late check out, we were told that we had to pay for ANOTHER night if we wanted late check out. Considering the fact that we had been without A/C for two days, it would've been nice to give us late check out...especially since the hotel was not full. It made no sense. Not the type of service/response you expect to receive at a 5 star establishment. In addition, house keeping forgot to clean our room one day and I had to call to remind them.

Other than that, we found Grand Isle to be a lovely property on beautiful Exuma...

Exuma is as beautiful island in the Bahamas and if you are looking for a quiet vacation on a spectacular and beautiful bay with excellent service then Grand Isle resort is the place to go to. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the ocean view suites are worth it.
The restaurant is excellent and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
Do rent a car because taxis are expensive. There are many good restaurants in the island many of whom serve very good Bahamian food.
A day trip to Chat n Chill in Stocking island is a must. Don't forget to feed the stingrays!
Every beach on the island is a secluded beach and the water everywhere has the most incredible shades of blue.
It is an easy flight to Exuma from Miami and definitely worth a trip!!

My husband and 13 yr old traveled to Exuma for spring break staying at the grand isle for 4 nights. It was fantastic. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath villa - 7102 - it is in the middle section but has a ocean view- beautiful landscaping, beautiful decor. We rented the golf cart which was perfect to get around - some reviews mentioned that it was a waste because there really isn't anywhere to go but we enjoyed driving around the grounds in the evening - along the golf course etc- plus so much easier getting to the restaurant and beach. Unless you are staying near there I would do the golf cart for the extra money. They have various floor plans - ours was two story with bedrooms on the first floor - nice size rooms etc. only drawback was the master bedroom bed was too hard. We had groceries pre ordered - breakfast and lunch items - it was so nice to have the basics there when we arrived - $60 service fee plus the cost of the groceries but it was worth it. we did eat at the only restaurant and it was excellent! we had dinner there every night and loved the variety - kids menu was perfect for our daughter who can be picky and she enjoyed every meal. It is not cheap but good portions and good service. The overall service was excellent in all areas from check in to excursions to checkout - very friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful and the water was incredible - clear blue! We did have seaweed on a few days but they drag the beach each day - they have some kayaks, paddleboard and snorkel gear - we didn't see any fish but others did. Not a lot of activities for kids. There are only a few thatched huts for shade - it was not crowded while we were there but if it is that could be a problem. Sand fleas were a problem - take some anti itch cream! They have housekeeping available - let them know when you want them to come everyday. We also scheduled an excursion - 1/2 day boat tour and it was fun - swim with pigs, feed the iguanas- makes for a great vacation story - the surrounding islands are so beautiful and the water amazing shades of blue. Full day tours go to thunderball grotto which those that went said the snorkeling was incredible. Perfect for total relaxation!! Have the hotel schedule your airport transportation - makes its very easy - only about 20 mins from the airport.

Room Tip: We loved having an ocean view but they are pricey - the ocean front villas have incredible views - b...

Spent 6 nights here on our honeymoon and loved every moment of it! The grounds and gardens are presented and maintained beautifully. The staff are all lovely and super helpful. The rooms are amazing, very large and well appointed. Was very handy to have a full size kitchen for breakfasts and snacks. We had a beautiful view out to the marina from our balcony. The golf cart is unnecessary but a very fun little novelty. The pool area is excellent and we spent a lot of time lounging around there. Ate at the Palapa restaurant probably half a dozen times and had perfect meals every time, plus we didn't get sick of the menu. I hope to get back to Exumas one day and wouldn't think twice about staying here again.
