“Already going back!”

I'm one of those people torn between wanting to rave about the St. Francis, and wishing it stayed a secret. First off, good thing you see written here is true, but there's more. The Island itself is wonderful and you can go for hours and only see a few people. We loved the St. Francis and can't say enough good things about George, Jill and Greg. One of the things that seems to get little mention are the paths which have been created and maintained all over the island. My girlfriend and I spent half our days hiking through the brush and small cliffs following the map you get with your room. Nothing too tough, but fun and challenging. We stumbled onto Hamburger Beach and had no money, and Alvin gave us beers on the house, which we went back and paid for later in the week. I also agree that renting a boat from Mins is a must for a day. We did the Staniel Cay tour with Starfish and Neville and Lindsey were great.
Overall, as beautiful as the island was, the best part was the people. Everyone is friendly, and the St Francis felt familiar and comfortable. We are sure to go back.

If you are wondering whether to choose the St. Francis...quite worrying and just GO! Go if you love the clearest water and softest sand you will ever see. Go if you want to relax on fabulous beaches all by yourself. Go to a place that makes you feel welcome and part of the local "family". Go if you have a teenager cuz they will LOVE the Chat N Chill (Ours never wanted to leave there...endless games of cature the flag, beach football and hangin' in the shade with friends from around the world). DON'T GO if you have to have a fancy resort with a million activities, super gourmet food and want to be waited on hand and foot...there are other places like that for a price.... When you do go, be ready to do as the locals do...poker or Trivial Pursuit night with a STIFF $5 fee, bonfires on the beach and meet new friends at one of the beaches. If you know anything about sailing, take the Hobie Cat for a spin...the water that splashes on you is warmer than the air...spectacular. Get to know some of the local people, they are so kind and genuine. And figure out a way to get across the Harbor to the Fish Fry for the most delcious downhome local prepared fish and side dishes! Don't let the rustic look of the place stop you- find a shack you like the looks of and just relax there a while. Rent a boat from Minns and explore the area...find the sea turtles and rays that are abundant in the crystal clear water. JUST GO...and tell Jillian and Greg that we think they are the best and to come visit us in Seattle anytime! Greg...Jake says HI and we will be back!

upon arriving i was greeted at a local dock by george, he didnt seem to be excited about my wife and i staying at his resort however that changed as soon as i went for dinner. the waitress sonita gave service with a smile. i have never meet someone with such exceptional people skills in the bahamas. her rum punches were far from any other i tasted they were great. she helped us in getting the water taxi to and from the island and with finding things to do. also jill brought a hearty breakfast every morning, it was a delight. i would recommend this resort to anyone just so they can get a taste of a good rum punch, and see the natives like sonita makes me understand the bahamas is not all bad service.

If you are looking for a quiet, restful, uncrowded and pristine spot, this is your place. Stocking Island is off of the eastern shore of Great Exuma. The small resort sits on a rise between the ocean and the bay separating Stocking from Great Exuma island. The bay can be seen from the front windows of each room and is crowded with boats. The setting on the bay is tranquil and picturesque. Out the back of the room there is a small portch and a magnificent view of the ocean. The beach stretches endlessly in both directions and there is hardly a soul to be seen. You almost expect Robinson Caruso to come wandering down the beach. Most of the people one meets are boaters moored or anchored in the bay who come ashore to the resort to eat and socialize. If sitting in one place seems too boring, I would recommend renting a small boat on Great Exuma by the week or for a day. You can then explore other parts of Stocking Island, eat at one of the beach bars, or swim at one of the empty bay beaches. You can also visit places along the shore of Great Exuma. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Indeed, it is remarkably good for a small resort on a tiny island. The owners George and Jillian were helpful and very friendly.

My wife and I just spent a week at St. Francis and sincerely enjoyed every single minute. We were looking for something quiet yet adventurous and we found that and more. The service was great and the food was excellent. Rates, food, and drinks were all very reasonable. They had the best food in the harbor by far.
We stayed 6 nights and wish we had at least two more. The rooms were simple yet very clean and comfortable. The view to the ocean from your bed was awesome, we watched the sunrise over the waves each morning. You won't find a better beach in the Caribbean, soft powdery beaches that go on for miles with no one on them. We stayed during the George Town Cruising Regatta and still felt like we were on the beach alone each day. The sail boats in the harbor were neat to see each day. George, Jill, and Greg were extremely accommodating and welcomed us as family.
We enjoyed using the kayaks, snorkel equipment, and row boat at our leisure. One day we rented a boat from Minn's Water Sports and found it very easy to get around and had a blast exploring the many beaches and the harbor. Minn's had great customer service.
Chat n Chill was a short kayak ride from St. Francis and well worth the paddle! They have a great beach, great atmosphere, but St. Francis had better food.
We paid for a tour to Staniel Cay which was more than worth every penny! If you have the opportunity to go, GO! The 2 hour boat ride to get to the grotto, see the swimming pigs, island of iguanas, the sandbar in the middle of the ocean, nurse sharks, was well worth the time and money.
If you are looking for quiet, friendly, full of opportunity to explore on your own this is the place! No where else will you get the views of the ocean and the harbor like you do here.
Pictures do not do it justice! The colors are absolutely gorgeous!
We HIGHLY recommend staying at St. Francis!

If your idea of the perfect vacation includes the sound of breaking waves of the Atlantic on one side and the calm beauty of a Caribbean harbor on the other (both viewed from your room and literally steps away); the most romantic, non-commercial, make-your-own-day place you can imagine; and with spectacular hosts who make you feel like family, then a visit to the St. Francis is definitely for you. It is a wonderful slice of paradise. We go to the Caribbean to a different small resort every year, and the St. Francis is hands down one of the best.
Owners George, Gillian and their son Gregg make you feel so welcome and will do anything to complete your vacation. We nick-named Gill “Momma Bird” when she arrived at our door daily with breakfast.
On any given day you can take kayaks out snorkeling or to the Chat & Chill just across the bay, and then to find your own secluded beach right on Stocking Island – there are many. We brought our own snorkel gear but they have gear there. Long walks on the beaches in every direction are amazing, (don’t miss the swing), and hiking trails offer access to much of the island, with benches with spectacular views at every turn. The beaches are gorgeous and the water is an indescribably beautiful, crystal clear Caribbean turquoise. Others have described it as gin clear, and the color does remind you of a bottle of Bombay Sapphire.

Don’t bother to eat at the Chat & Chill, but have a beer or rum drink just for the experience. Definitely try the fresh conch salad at the shack on the beach – it’s truly worth it and so much fun to watch it being made right there, starting with the conch being plucked right out of the ocean, to the final squeeze of fresh citrus juices.

The Kalik (local) beer is icy cold at St Francis and Sonita, the wonderful bartender/waitress makes the best Bahama Mamas around! Do have the Crack Conch at the resort - it is just the best, along with the tuna wrap and the shrimp Caesar salad. All the food is great at St Francis. The restaurant and bar are comfortable and fun, especially when the “boat people” drop by for a beer or game of cards. There are great characters to meet! Do order a shot of George’s Nassau Royale rum and ask him about South Africa and the beautiful St. Francis catamarans he sells.

We could go on but suffice it to say that the St. Francis Resort is one great place and we will definitely be back again and again.

I did not think such a place existed for such a reasonable cost! My wife, young daughter (17 months) and I were in need of some serious rest and, when we need time to recuperate, we find it in solitude and being in nature. Typically you pay an arm and a leg for a beachfront view with virtually nobody else on the beach to share with, but St. Francis Resort is one of the best kept secrets! Booking the trip was easy - just fly into Georgetown (GGT), Exuma and, pretty much, the rest will be taken care of. Once you get off the plane, you go through customs and then out the door where the taxi driver will be waiting. It's small enough of an island that they all know St. Francis by name and will contact either Jill or George by radio - and the boat will be waiting after a short 15 minute taxi drive to the dock ($30). From there it's a 5-10 minute boat ride to the island, where you'll find an immaculate room (tile floors), modern bathroom with full shower (no bathtub) and all the wonderful amenities you'd expect from a 4-star hotel. Not to mention the breathtaking view! Breakfast is brought to your door every morning. Lunch and dinner can be eaten at the bar/restaurant and prices are very reasonable, especially given it is the main access to food you have. There are other places you can grab lunch like Hamburger Beach or Chat n' Chill, but if you're one for hygiene in food prep, you may want to stick with St. Francis for all your meals. Prices range around $10-12 and can satisfy an average male appetite. They have traditional American food and also Conch dishes, which were my favorite. The resort owners, George and Jill, are incredible hosts and made us feel at home, especially since travelling with a 17-month old can be difficult. They made special accomodations for us and went out of their way to make sure she was well taken care of and all her needs met. The island is gorgeous and we felt we were the only ones there. If you've ever wondered what it's like to have your own private beach, take a short 1-2 mile hike to any of the other beaches and you'll find pristine, warm shallow waters without another soul in sight (just boats). Breathtaking! I cannot wait to go again! The only thing I can think of that wasn't perfect was trying to keep the sand out of the room (and beds for that matter, with special thanks to my daughter) - but if you can't live with sand, you shouldn't be going to an island!
