“mouldy jam”
Reviewed 23 July 2009

Spent one night here on the start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. In such a good spot, it was a shame that the hotel didnt match up to it.

The pub itself is ok, and the food in the evening was also reasonable. The rooms were adequate, the shower worked but i have had better. The sky tv didnt work but after asking a couple of times the landlord sorted that out.

Breakfast the following morning was fine, until i went to look for the jam on the buffet table. There were several to choose from, but most of them also came with mould! This is I have to say very poor, and really turned me off the whole meal. If they dont keep their jams well and check them to prevent such things, what standard is the rest of the hotel food?

We came across this hotel whilst driving down the Welsh coast looking for somewhere to stay. The outside of the hotel wasn't much to look at but there was a nice grass area by the car park which looked out over the estuary. The hotel was shut when we arrived but a lady said we could have a room although it wasn't decorated to the standard of the other rooms. We were shown to the room which was clean but a bit dated.
We sat ouside in the front garden area which had great views. Unfortunately the hotel didn't open to the public until 6pm and several cars pulled up only to find they couldn't get a drink. The weather was very good and we sat outside with a drink and the owner very kindly made our 2 year old daughter a cheese sandwich. He told us that he hadn't planned to open at all but the good weather had changed his mind. Food was served between 6 and 8 and I have to say this was the highlight of our visit. Home made fishcakes and steak pie to die for! The only complaint we had was that the wine was not chilled. Breakfast was served in a nice room and this was also very good.
This could be a great hotel with a bit of effort and is THE place to go if you are a walker.
We had a walk along Poppit Sands and the beach and views were stunning.

Stayed here for one night recently. The hotel is in a beautiful spot but it is failing to live up to its potential. The owner seemed unaware we had booked a larger room despite the fact that there was only one other room taken. The rooms were clean but dull and uninspiring. They even had a Sky box without the viewing card. At the height of the holiday season the fact that there were only two rooms out of eight taken says it all

  • Liked — Overall cleanliness ok
  • Disliked — Poor service - drab decor
