We stayed in the coach house, which was unbelievably cheap, with comfortable beds, clean sheets and a good shower. Perfect for a 3-man climbing expedition.

The bar was cosy, and authentic, with a resident retired climbing guide propping up the bar!! The owner was really friendly, and looked after us well.

The cooked breakfast we had each morning was really nice, and cooked as if the chef actually had thought about what it would be like to eat! an excellent fortifying meal before a day on the rock.

Much better than Bets - y - Coed (spelling?). A real gem, brilliant find. We'll be back!

Traveling through north Wales we happened upon Elen's Castel and chose to stop there for the night. We were warmly welcomed and given a choice of rooms. then our room was upgraded at no extra charge. Wonderful hospitality and great location make Elen's Hotel an excellent place to stay.

I booked Elens Castle Hotel as it was one of only a few dog friendly accommodations in the Snowdownia area. Situated in a tiny village the location is peaceful and the mountains and the seaside are a short car ride away. The Hotel is small and offers a small bar where dogs are allowed provided you book in advance. There is a separate restaurant where dogs are not allowed and breakfast is served in here and as dogs can't be left in rooms unattended then you have to leave your dog in your car. We stayed in the four poster room which had beautiful furniture although the room is a little tired and shows signs of wear. As the hotel is run by a family it
has more of a B&B feel as breakfast is cooked by the owner, who also runs the bar and takes orders. He was extremely friendly always welcoming and happy to engage in conversation. Breakfast was good provided you want a full English or some variation. As the owner has to cook it all there's very little variety. Evening
meals are prepared by a chef and are very good after a hard days walking! Overall it was a little pricey at £100 per night but we would stay there again.

We have just returned home after a two night stay at Elen's Castle with our two dogs. We were welcomed and looked after brilliantly - nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast was great - a good start to any day's walking. We had dinner in the bar, where Izzie and Jess were welcomed and fussed over by staff and other customers alike. The food was excellent (thoroughly recommend the deep-fiiled beef pie!) and great value for money.

The village is a lovely place to stay. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the homely and family feel of the hotel and found Elen's Castle a very good base for days out in the mountains and beyond.

We didn't manage to climb Snowdon due to adverse weather, but this means we'll have to come back to try again. Guess where we'll want to stay?

We will be back!

Had a couple of days away with our dogs, so lucky to find somewhere like this. Welcomed with a smile, shown to our room, nothing too much trouble. Had two lovely meals in the bar with our dogs, lovely wood fire, totally relaxed atmosphere. Food choice good, veggies cooked to perfection, mains exactly as advertised. Convivial chat with mine hosts and the other guests, we will be back next time we get a couple of days off to recharge the batteries.

Location great for the Snowdon National Park, but easy to get to from the North West

My partner and I were staying at a self-catering cottage in the village and went to Elen's Castle for dinner on three evenings after a hard days walking in the mountains when we were too tired to cook for ourselves.

The owners were welcoming and the bar area comfortable and relaxing. The food was good quality and decent portions. Our dog was made welcome too and would also give Elen's Castle a positive woof!

We enjoyed our few days here in this small family run hotel. It is very centrally located for exploring much of Snowdonia. The people who run it are friendly and welcoming, yet always professional and helpful. We ate there each night as the village doesn't have an alternative with which we felt comfortable. Plentiful car parking available. The room was adequate, but there are several nicer ones available. The shower and toilet were in a very small cubicle partitioned off from the bedroom, and seemingly isolated from the heating system as it was always cold in there. The handbasin was in the main part of the bedroom. The decor and furniture were a little tired, but the bed was very comfortable. Certainly worth paying a little extra for one of their nicer rooms. Food was always at least adequate and on occasion, surprisingly good. Not much variation of the menu though. Breakfast was excellent every day! A nice place for a short stay in a relaxed and friendly environment. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: We chose the cheapest option available and although adequate for our needs, there are several much n...
