“Great boutique hotel”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lion, the team of young staff work incredibly hard and were very accomodating. The spa area was quite a treat with a great massage chair and usual sauna/steam room etc - all the better for being brand new! The food was excellent, so good that we ate there both nights. A good selection of local produce all well cooked and plentiful. We hadn't visited this area before, we usually travel further into the Brecon Beacons, but were pleasantly surprised at how much there was to do in the area - excellent walking and plenty of heritage sites to explore. We will definitely return.

We stayed at this Hotel only one night, but it had one of the best hotel services I had ever experienced . I can't emphasise enough on how friendly, helpful and accommodating the staff at this establishment were. The overall feel of the hotel is cosy, intimate and welcoming.
The rooms were decorated to a high standard and the beds were extremely comfortable. The rooms also had access to Wi-Fi. The main focus seems to have been put on the comfort of the client.
On the plus side the town is quiet at night which enables one to experience a noise free night. We unfortunately, did not have time to visit the town the next day (as we had prior engagements), which was a real shame.
However, I will be returning at the next available opportunity.

Visited the restaurant only in June after being recommended by a colleague. Firstly the decor is lovely with comfortable seating in bar and restaurant.
Waiting staff were attentive and helpful and all well presented.
A limited menu - but all six of us found something we liked -we placed the order and all was fine until they returned to the table and told the two in our who had ordered the steak - they had run out. Not good at 8.00 on a Saturday evening.
The food arrived - but not all together which for a party of six - is not too clever.
All in all - the meals were good - but not great - but they are charging top money. As we don't live local - we would not make the effort to return as there are much better restaurants in and around Abergavenny for similar money.

Delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented food at a reasonable price and served in cosy surroundings. Highly recommend the food, and after a short tour of the hotel rooms and spa facilities by the proud owners I would highly recommend the hotel. Tastefully decorated rooms with stunning boutique style bathrooms provide comfortable accommodation. A much needed haven in Blaenavon.

We had good old Sunday dinner at this hotel today, it was great !! The hotel is newly opened and I must say the decor and standard of furnishings was excellent. The food was excellent too especially my lamb, the vegetables were plentiful and cooked beautifully. My dessert was suitably sweet and yummy. The young staff were well dressed pleasant and attentive.
It is a small hotel/restaurant and although quiet on the day we had lunch it is certainly a place I would visit again.

This place is on our doorstep so decided to give it a try!!

It was quiet but it is 2 weeks into the opening of the place so I guess that is to be expected. The decor in very nice and as you would expect all looks fresh and clean which includes the toilet which is finished to a hig standard.

The service was faultless but it was quiet so staff were hardly under pressure. The staff are all very young but very polite and attentive.

Had 3 courses and all of the food was excellent and well presented: the fishcake to start, my partner had the black pudding, the rib eye steak (which was cooked exactly as requested) and my partner had the guinea fowl, (triple cooked chips were really good and unIike some that I have had still moist inside) was slightly disappointed not to be able to have a lemon sorbet but had a really nice vanilla ice cream instead and my partner had the apple crumble. Finished with a really nice coffee.

The is a nice selection of reasonably priced wines on offer!

All in all a really nice experience. For visitors to the area the Hotel would make a great base to explore the Iron Works, Big Pit and the surrounding area.
