“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed 7 July 2010

I recently stayed at Belleisle to celebrate my 40th birthday and cannot recommend this venue highly enough! The castle is stunningly beautiful, elegantly decorated and surprisingly affordable! We particularly enjoyed feasting in the very sumptous dining hall, complete with minstrel's gallery! If anything was going to ease my passage to middle age, this was it!

My husband, our son, and I stayed on Belle Isle at the Coach House for 5 days in June 2010. We are from New York, it was our first time in Northern Ireland, and we were very happy with our choice. We had slight trouble finding our way to the island initially - but the rest of the time was relaxing and peaceful. Sitting room and dining rooms are beautifully decorated with art and Irish style furniture, comfortable beds, huge bathrooms, and fully equipped kitchen: everything was spotless clean! It felt like a home away from home. Charles, the manager, is very nice and helpful in orienting us around Fermanagh. In afternoon we went on pleasant long walks with magnificent scenery. There is a lively town of Enniskillen within 10 minutes drive, where we went for dinners and shopping. We attended a day of a cookery class given by wonderful chef Liz. For our last night in Belle Isle, we had a barbecue in the courtyard. We immensely enjoyed our stay in Belle Isle, we will definitely come back in the future and possibly with a bigger group.

I stayed in the Courtyard with a few friends while attending a class at the cookery school. I was very impressed with the high quality of the teaching as well as the the overall accommodations. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. There was also plenty to do both around Belle Isle (boating, nice walks) as well as in the nearby town of Enniskillen (pubs and restaurants). I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxing stay in a beautiful Irish countryside. Hopefully will be returning soon.

Having stayed with two other couples in the main house in belle isle in nov 08 we were highly impressed by the wonderful house original paintings including landseers and decent food. The fire was lit in the drawing room before dinner where we gathered for drinks before being seated for dinner in the baronial dining room as we were the only guests it was a remarkably enjoyable experience.Hhoping to book again this year we attended this week to arrange another booking for 8 on driving towards the house we were effectively attacked by a member of staff. His anger the reason for which was not explained was such that my american guest was concerned for her safety. Needless to say we will not be returning and must say that it is almost tragic that perhaps the finest blue book property with its remarkable Hicks interiors and authentic Anglo Irish experience is staffed by such an apparently troubled angry and rude member of staff.

My Boyfriend and i stayed in the belle isle cottage, bridge house. we had a wonderful wkend, relaxing and peaceful, but no fish! the house is beside the river, one of the reasons we went was for the fishing but we caught nothing, but we didnt care as the house was in excellant condition, more than we expected.

we stayed in october, which was colder and it took a while to heat the house, but once the oil heating and open fire was up and running it was lovely. we were allowed as many logs as we wanted and didnt have to pay for them.

the nearest town approx 1 mile, but not much in it, you have to travel a bit further to get petrol etc. there is a pub called carrybridge not that far from belle isle, lovely for a wee drink.

we tried to order a chinese takeaway one night, as there was a leaflet in the cottage, which said on it that they delivered to belle isle, but when we phoned they said they didnt.

Reviewed 2 April 2007

I stayed in the Courtyard cottages at Belleisle Castle from 30 March to 1 April. We were on the wedding party at a wedding on at the castle on the Saturday. The cottages were lovely. Each had a kitchen, sitting room and dining room. They were all different sizes with differing numbers of bedrooms. Not all the bedrooms have bathrooms. They faced out onto patios with a picnic benches which was great. The castle - big old house really was very nice inside with an entrance hall, drawing room and a dining room (called the great hall). The gardens round the castle were lovely and you could sit on the shores of Lough Erne from them. The bedrooms upstairs in the castle were all decorated differently but in an oldly worldly style which was great. Only the main bedroom that is used as the bridal room was en-suite but the bathrooms for the other rooms were just across the hall and were nearly as big as the bedrooms! The only disappointment was that there were no domestic staff provided by the castle which meant that we had to cook, serve and clean up after all the guests. That was exhausting and I felt it would have made a big difference to the overall enjoyment of the weekend if there had been domestic staff to do some of the running around. You also have to be self sufficient staying in the cottages - clearing bins before you leave etc.

  • Liked — that it was so quanit and its location
  • Disliked — the lack of an en-suite bathroom
