Three days in perfect peace watching the ferry go back and forward just missing the Yachts. Food good and plentiful and air as fresh you could breath in for a week.

Front (best) room very confortable athough the shower doors were a challange for the robust among us. Bar was very friendly, as was relaxed attritudes to life.

Perfect start to our touring of this hidden coast.

We stopped at the Colintraive Hotel for lunch on the enthusiastic recommendation of a friend. Arriving by boat, we picked up one of their mooring buoys just along from the Colintraive-Bute ferry, and walked the two minutes to the Hotel.
Entering the cheerfully comfortable bar, our expectations were high as we read the menu, which not only tells you what you can eat, but, in the case of the seafood, the name of the person who caught it.
We were not disappointed! We shared a huge bowl of monster mussels in a decadent white wine and cream sauce, and a wonderful plate of langoustines drenched in garlic butter - washed down with a perfect pint of beer (I think it was Huntsman - or something like that).
Indeed, the food was so good that we stopped there again for lunch two days later - this time for more mussels and cullen skink. Our friends had fleshly battered fish and chips and the home made steak pie - both of which they assured us were delicious. One word of caution - either have a long walk before you get there or plan one for afterwards as the portions are generous - to say the least!
We didn't stay in the hotel, but the atmosphere downstairs gave me every confidence that if we did decide to stay we would have done so in style.
We will certainly be back.

We found this small hotel a number of years ago and fell in love with the location, ambience and wonderful welcome by proprietoress Patricia - a real gem. Upon our last return however the prices had increased considerably especially for the very pleasant and roomy loch view room but now overpriced at £60 per person per night. We did not appear to be alone in our sentiments as over 2 nights only 1 of the other 3 rooms was utilised on 1 night but that may have been just our timing but virtually every where else in the Highlands we had difficulty finding accommodation. Food is good (had recently received an award) but again not quite justifying the prices and whilst we were there not consumed in the spacious and attractive dining room although this was used for a somewhat lonely breakfast. As much as we love the location I fear we may not return at these prices and lonley breakfasts.

We came back to stay for two wonderful nights as a result of being here for lunch while passing with friends in February. We were not disappointed. The quality of the food is simply outstanding, particularly the steak which is the best we have ever had - and that is saying something! As you would expect in this part of the world, seafood features strongly on the menu. All the food is supplied locally from named suppliers which is important to us. Our room was clean and comfortable with good views across to the island of Bute. We found the staff in this family owned and run hotel were friendly and welcoming. It's recently been awarded Scottish Inn of the Year 2010 and no surprise. All this and within two and half hours of Edinburgh, so we will most definitely be back!

Recent visit to Rothesay I introduced my friends to a delightful little gem that I discovered a few years ago. Colintraive Hotel is fantastic for food. Local sourced produce is used and the fish choices superb.I highly recommend a visit sit enjoy good food, wine, and watch the world go by. I have previously stayed at this hotel but not on this occasion. On a good day you would have to remind yourself that you were actually in Scotland!

Ate in the bar area; good beers, friendly welcome, good service and general ambience; felt that the starter portion sizes langoustine (x3) and especially scallops (x2) were more than a little mean given the cost of around £10-£11 each. Main courses were Venison sausages (£14) and Steak Burger (£11); both were overcooked and overpriced. Everywhere can be inconsistent, but this experience, of portion size relative to price, would make me reluctant to try the place again.
