A visit to Scotland MUST accommodate a drive through the Glencoe which takes easily more than 2 hours if you halt to appreciate the beauty of this place.

For ones who aren't short on time, I suggest you take a day trip to this place for trekking. Something I am going to do when I come back.

The hour's drive through this wilderness must be one of the most spectacular in the world. There are lots of places to stop and enjoy the view. Take rain coats as I have now done the trip four times and on three occasions, all in Summer, it has been raining. But that does not spoil the atmosphere.

We stopped at The Glen Coe Ski Resort for some lunch. There is a chair lift to the top, although we were advised not to take it on the day we visited as visibility was very low and we would freeze! The food was wholesome and reasonably priced. There are also cabins to rent at what seemed a very reasonable price (£50 a night), although they did not include bathrooms and a shower would be an additional £1 for four minutes….

Well the title is an understatement. We drove up to Skye and the very wet drive through the Glen was interesting, but none-the-less stunning. We had a 'butty' stop in a lay-by to the sound of a thundering waterfall, round the bend and through the narrow high walled road to the splendid view of the Glen itself. On our way home the following week the weather was completely different, bright sunshine, warm with a gentle breeze. We stopped at the National Trust centre and walked to the viewing platform. The colours of the hills was fantastic. Truly the first time we had seen the views in sunshine and it appeared a completely different place.
Lots of hikers about and cyclist too. A great place for all. There is a short gentle circular walk from centre too.

My wife and I did a walk up to the Lost Valley off the main roadway. We enjoyed hearing the piper playing in the parking area as started our walk. It was a gorgeous day and a lovely hike. It took us about 1.25 hours of moderate level hiking to get up to the valley, where we enjoyed a picnic lunch in a charming and scenic location.

I regret we only spent a half day here. If we ever get back to Scotland, we will definitely be spending a few days exploring this area.
