This holiday was much needed, and did not disappoint in any way. We were upgraded into the largest lodge (had booked the smallest) and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Everything about the lodge was comfortable and of a very high standard. It was spotlessly clean and everything had been thought of by the owners. The location was peaceful but near enough to amenities and the hot tub was wonderful. We have stayed in lots of self catering cottages and lodges and various ends of the spectrum and this was definately the best yet.

I booked Airhouses for my honeymoon as my husband had never been to scotland before and i liked the idea of not being confinded to a hotel room and also because i didnt want to stay in a city but wanted to relax in the country and in the country it certainly is!

Situated about 1/2 a mile from the main road it was abit of a bumpy start (as it has started to snow) for my poor hubbys mondeo but we carried on and arrived at the owners house where we met carol. She was very friendly and told us the lodge for 2 which i had booked was having work done on it so we were being upgraded to the ramsey for no extra cost.

We went down to the lodge and it was just as i pictured it. All lovely and made of wood (apparently imported from Scandanavia). Carols husband Martin showed us around and then left us to it. The lodge had 2 bedrooms, each with a bathroom ensuite. The living room/kitchen/dining room was big and spacious and complete with a christmas tree. The kitchen was well stocked with eveything you could need and a welcome basket full of goodies was left for us in the fridge which was a lovely touch. It had a a dishwasher, utility room with microwave iron and board, washer/dryer and the bedrooms had a hair dryer each. The heating was on constant and the lodge was always lovely and warm and used thermostats on the radiators to adjust the temp. The showers were walk in wet rooms and the whole place was clean and immaculate complete with slippers, robes and fluffy towels.

The lodge had excellent internet connection and the t.v was a nice size with freeview built in and a dvd player. Board games, dvd and books were provided also.

The next day we started off with a full english thanks to the contents of our welcome basket and best of all we woke to lots of snow! This alone made our honeymoon. However snow isnt the best thing for a normal car but thankfully Martin's 4 by 4 towed us from the lodge onto the road (and twice off the main road back to the lodge)

The lodge was situated not far from edinburgh where we discovered a park and ride half an hour away from the lodge which took us into the city in a mere 5 mins. Quick and easy!
We enjoyed 2 days of shopping but the 3rd day we decided to stay in the lodge as alot of snow had fallen and was still falling. However we enjoyed being big kids and spent the day sleighing, snowball fighting and making a snow man.

However the best thing about the trip (apart from the snow) was the hot tub outside. One word..OMG!
It was such a novelty and a lovely way to unwind with a glass of champers, we ended up spending every night in there! Nothing more strange then being surrounded by 6inchs of snow outside and sat in your cozzie in a hot tub looking up at the stars....it certainly made our honeymoon!

All in all this was an amazing and beautiful place with very friendly owners and nothing was to much trouble! We had some of the best night sleeps in the comfy beds and the little pigglets that lived at the bottom of the garden were always a cute sight.

As for the price it was reasonable as you are getting all these facilities and you can come and go as you please, plus a caravan would be smaller and although maybe £150 less and i know which i would rather be in!

I would recomend this to every and anyone if they want to experience scotland at its best.

Just back from a long week-end at Airhouses. It was more expensive than we would normally pay, and yes, we did wonder if we’d get value from money. Having been I have to conclude that yes we did. We had a lovely break in quality accommodation. We booked The Buchanan Lodge – it was one of four. I noted that the Lamont and Ramsay Lodges both had Category 2 Assisted Disabled Access and that a variety of aids, if required, could be pre-booked. If my memory serves me right there was no charge for these.
The Buchanan could accommodate six adults and two children. Two extra adults could be accommodated at an extra cost. It was new and very spacious. There were three bedrooms, three shower rooms and a separate toilet. A large sitting/ dining and kitchen area had large windows over the surrounding countryside. There was a small laundry area with a washer drier and an additional large fridge freezer. The combined drier was not as efficient as a separate tumble drier. All fittings and fixtures were of a high quality. Beds were very comfortable and large fluffy towels, robes, slippers and toiletries were also provided. Electricity was included in the price.
The kitchen was well stocked, likewise the fridge. A welcome pack consisting of a bottle of bubbly; bread; milk; cheese; oatcakes; a little butter; sausage; bacon; eggs; tomatoes and blackpudding was provided. A filled fruit bowl, coffee, tea, and sugar sachets were also there to use. A selection of games; CD’s and DVD’s were available for using during your stay. As we were there during a very wet week-end these were very welcome. Was there anything else we would have liked? - just kitchen roll!
Every lodge had their own private hot tub. Ours was very spacious and enjoyed by all – even in the rain! This was maintained twice a day. Had mother nature been more obliging we would have been able to enjoy the outside seating areas – three different patio tables and chairs along with the gas barbeque (gas extra). It eventually dried up the morning we left to come home. We were able to see and enjoy the lovely countryside views.
Airhouses are a good mile out of Oxton. This is a small village but does have a hotel/pub and shop/post office. We went to Kelso, Melrose and Galashields from Airhouses. We particularly liked Melrose. It has the Abbey. Papa Jack’s cafe was very traditional and served delicious home baking. Lees the butchers in Bridge Street,Kelso comes highly recommended. The fresh meat was delicious as was the home made pork casserole that we bought from their freezer. We finished off our meal with some yummy chocolate cheesecake – again purchased in the butchers. Who said self catering was hardwork!
To conclude, if you want a cheap holiday in the “bizz” then perhaps this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a quality countryside break, in the Borders, then Airhouses would probably suit you down to the ground! We would be happy to recommend it.

I was a bit worried about booking this place as I couldn't find any recomendations anywhere.

My husband and I stayed here over easter bank holiday weekend for a week and when we first arrived it looked amazing and we were very impressed.

The lodges are beautiful and finished to a very high standard. We stayed in the Buchanan lodge which to be honest was far to big for my husband and I so we invited our family to stay too.

You definately need to be able to drive and there are no local pubs within walking distance, so we spent most of our time in the hot tub!

We didn't get a discount for not using all the rooms as we took our dogs, and were a bit surprised that about a week after our return we got a bill for cleaning of the rooms that were used by our family.

Overall it ws very nice but not sure I would go back as it was a bit too remote.
