“Top notch nosh”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Looking for a last minute table, we booked at the Old Bakehouse, one of our local restaurants and which had visited on a number occasions in the past, not realising that it was under new ownership. What a meal: haggis, tatties and neeps pakora followed by Tony's signature Punjabi salmon, washed down with chocolate soup and breads. Wines selected by the waiting staff were well matched to the perfect portion sizes and all in all this was a fantastic and a highly pleasant surprise of a Saturday night out. The menu still had a number of nods back to the old menu, so if Tony's Indian influence on some the dishes was not to your taste, there is still ample alternative choice. We were £90 for the 2 of us for 3 courses (and coffee) with pre-dinner drinks and wine, which was very well worth the money for a fantastic dining experience.

“Fabulous Food”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

Visited here for a birthday celebration - menu was far more extensive and reasonably priced than I had expected.

The food was phenomenal from start to finish, the decor and atmosphere is unpretentious and just right. The staff were friendly, attentive, humorous - as you'd expect from Tony Singh's establishment.

Overall, I can't wait to go back and highly recommend it to anyone, special occasion or not.

“Lovely meal in nice surroundings :-)”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

We have been to the New old Bakehouse a few times now since Tony has taken over. Every time we have been the food has been lovely and service has been good. Recently we have been during the week for the 2 courses for £10 or 3 courses for £13 which is amazing value for the quality of food. Only down point is that it isn't as busy as it should be so therefor lacks a bit atmosphere, hopefully this will change as it gets busier!

“Bakers dozen”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Went here for the offer which gives three courses for £13 from 12- 6 pm Wednesday to Friday. Great offering, portion controlled at this price but well presented from a set menu which still gives enough choice for a light meal. Staff very welcoming and friendly..... Can't understand some of the previous comments!

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

The Old Bakehouse is now under the highly skilled and competent command of Tony Singh. The restaurant has been given a new look and is now a bit brighter and modern looking. Some may mourn the passing of the old, "clubby" and dimly lit restaurant that it once was but I reckon the new decor suits rather well.
The restaurant did not get off to a flying start with me. A somewhat perfunctory welcome. We were asked to sit in the small bar whilst the waiter dealt with a bill and then made sure he had our table ready. Despite sitting in the bar nobody offered us a drink! I think we sat there for about five minutes before he came back to us. I don't know why it was like this as the restaurant seems remarkably well staffed.
It soon cheered up though. The staff are very friendly really and the service was very good throughout. The atmosphere is very informal and light. Could have been lighter if we had had a drink at the bar, Tony! You could have sold me on of those £100 a nip malts.
The food was excellent. Pie, mash and beans like you've never had. Tony has a brilliant touch with spices. Little retro touches such as prawn cocktail were welcome. Lots of choice without it being overwhelming and the menu is also very child friendly. My twenty-one year old son thought his Sweetshop dessert fantastic! I had a good old fashioned trifle which came in an artfully prepared flower pot. There is something for everyone. There were four in our party and we all felt that this was a great meal and restaurant. Not one of us would hesitate to return. I recommend it,
£131 for four. Three courses, no coffee but some beers.
