For the most part we enjoyed our stay here. Charming room with a view. Decorated very comfy. Comfortable bed. For the price I was surprised that there was no daily house keeping. Which means that when we took our dishes to the hall where a place was set up for dirty dishes they were not picked up for a couple of days and no tidying up of the room. There were complimentary snacks, coffee, water, yogurt, and fruit. The fruit was over ripe, so we had lots of fruit flies in our room. Happy to have yogurt and they had bowls for use, but no spoons. My husband went down to the restaurant where they were kind enough to give him a couple of spoons. There was road construction outside our room which started early morning so forget sleeping in. Because there was no one to check you in or see you at the property it was a little confusing to where the rooms were. We ended up having to call. But even though I've listed negatives I found it to be a nice place to stay. Good privacy, easy access to put our kayak in the water across from the inn. Also, there is a lovely restaurant below the rooms. Nothing close by to walk to, so one needs a car or bike to get to the town.
My girlfriend and I had a great time staying in your room and we’re wowed when we opened the door for our first night’s stay. The room looked better than the pictures online!
The view’s from the room were amazing and I liked the private feel you got from staying there and how you respected our privacy. I will definitely refer your place to friends of mine who come and go from Orcas Island.
Nice place for a relaxing stay with thoughtful touches throughout. Some descriptions online of All dreams properties talk of private decks and sweeping views. The Lodge Pine suite which is part of the kingfish Inn building does not have a private deck. So communicate with the owners to understand what suite you are getting so your expectations are set right.
We loved our stay in the Spruce suite (#4). It's removed from the rest of the inn with it's own entrance (next to the kitchen entrance to the restaurant next door, which is funky but not a problem). The room is beautifully decorated and spacious (as someone else mentioned, watch the step down into the bedroom...). We loved sitting out on the deck with our cocktails, or watching the moon. The bathroom is not as nicely done as the rest of the room, but it's functional.
The only off-note we had was that we arrived off the ferry, checked into our room and ran to the West End restaurant next door (literally, on the other side of the wall) hoping to catch dinner before they closed. We were there 10 minutes before close and were pretty rudely told that we were too late...one of those scenes where all of the staff is avoiding eye contact, hoping you'll go away. I've waited tables and I get that you hate people coming in at the last minute, but it was high season in a tourist area and you'd better make hay while you can.... The irony was that the welcome materials in the room emphasized '...go next door and tell them you're staying at the Inn and they'll treat you right...'. It's also a problem because there's nothing else nearby, and there was only one other place on the island serving dinner at that hour.
My husband and I stayed at the Kingfish Inn for a romantic weekend getaway. It was so private, check in and check out were very easy and we never saw anyone (including staff) while we were there. We will definitely go back. Our room was perfect and had a great private porch overlooking the water. The room was very clean and well decorated. There were snacks and drinks provided by the owners as well. I have never slept better while on vacation either. We loved our stay on Orcas Island and can't wait to go back!
My husband and I stayed at the inn for two nights. The room was comfortable and clean, so no issues there. The view was nice, although the screen on the window marred the view a bit. But my main complaint is that there was absolutely no interaction with the owners/managers. I realize this is intentional, and that many people might like that. But for me, it felt unfriendly. There was nobody to ask about places to eat, walks to take, etc. When we wanted to see if we could check in an hour early, nobody answered the phone, and I didn't want to leave a message because cell phone service was so spotty on the island. What if we had wanted to leave our bags somewhere for a while after checking out - there was nobody to talk to! Yes, there's a phone in the hallway so I could have called, but it feels like an intrusion, especially when the main number always goes to a recording. We won't be back.
This is a great place across the street from the marina in West Sound. Our room (4) was lovely although beware of the stepdown when you enter and also if you get up during the night!! The private deck has a nice view of the water. The restaurant in the same bldg has very good food.
