“Best Meal on the Island!”
Reviewed 10 November 2012

We just had the best meal of our stay on Orcas Island.

Somehow this hotel managers to pull off the small, outdated look, and makes it work, and look good. This restaurant was by no means fancy, but was clean, cozy, and friendly. The waitresses wore Jeans, and there was two fellows playing music and singing - a nice ambiance playing country music and such (the older fella played the piano, accordion, clarinet, flute, and sang. He reminded me of my father!)

Having seeing the menu on-line we knew that the prices were average (appetizer for about $10.00, main course $20.00), but we were not expecting much for our money.... we were wrong!

First we got bread with infused butter. Next were the appetizer - My fiance had the Ahi Tuna appetizer which had an asian flare to it, with cilantro - the presentation of it on the dish was great! I had the brushetta, which was covered in mozza (?) cheese, and caramelized- the cheese was standing up straight from the bread about 3 inches - phenomenal presentation!

For mains, he had the Filet Mignon, which came with two potato cakes - he said the steak "melted in your mouth", - I tried his steak, even though it was medium (I'm a blue rare fan and a fussy steak eater), and it was delicious! I had the lamb shank, which was a bit fatty, but still delicious with delicious sauces, and a unique corn/stuffing nugget which was delish!

For dessert we enjoyed a chocolate raspberry souffle, which was again was over-the-top! I had the New York Cheese cake, which was also delicious, but compared to our previous courses, the grid-like design made from caramel, seemed a bit plain as far as presentation goes (but now we are being fussy because we had NOTHING to complain about!)

The waitresses were amazing, and very attentive- after dinner we were enjoying the music, and they didn't rush us out until we asked for the bill. It was nice.

We will return!

“Orcas Island Hotel Cafe/ Starbucks available here!”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

We were here in Sept 2012 and the name had changed to Orcas Island Hotel cafe, located just off the lobby of the hotel. We did not expect much and were very pleasantly surprised - the food was delicious, the service friendly and the prices very reasonable. A tip we received from a local: since we were taking an early ferry and you have to get your car in line about an hour before departure, he suggested that we arrive early, park the car in the line and walk to this restaurant (the car lane is right in front of the hotel) and have breakfast while waiting the hour or so for the ferry. It worked beautifully and we didn't have to spend an hour just sitting in the car - we were enjoying a latte and wonderful breakfast in the cafe!

“Great in a place that WAS mediocre.”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

Surprisingly great in a place that WAS mediocre. Creative menu, slightly Asian tilt, friendly and good service, no disappointments this summer AT ALLl. Food: try the Cod and Ahi!! Or meat eaters: the filet.

“Everything is delicious”

Our large group was served family style - frisee salad w/ amazing light dressing, salmon, filet w/ gray and horseradish, Hawaiian chicken, grilled vegetables, smashed, crispy baked potatoes and heavenly raspberry tarts. Yes, heaven on a plate.

“Great food and a view to match”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

We stayed on Orcas near the ferry landing within walking distance of the Orcas Hotel and Octavia's Bistro. The location provides great views of the water and nearby Lopez Island. We were seated at a table to enjoy the view while dining.
We ordered coconut prawns to share and were delighted with the taste and texture. The fennel kim chee was delightful.
Main courses included the Wild Troll King Salmon Duo and Island Hotpot. The salmon consisted of 2 pieces of salmon over grilled asparagus with contrasting toppings of tomatoes and wasabi/ hijiki lotus root salad. The salmon was delicious and the toppings a delight. Never had tasted lotus root before and was pleasantly surprised.
The island hotpot was a delicious blend of seafood, pork, vegetables and herb stock. Very nice flavors.
The restaurant was busy this night but the servers were attentive and knowledgeable of the menu items. An informal live music performance wih some audience participation was a bonus. A full bar available and Prices were reasonable for the area.
I would highly recommend a vist and we returned for an additional visit to sample the Earth and Ocean and Misty Island Filet. Started with an appetizer of the sea vegetable trio. This provided some more new tastes to our delight. The crowd was light this evening and our server took good care of us. Another excellent meal.
