We just had the best meal of our stay on Orcas Island.
Somehow this hotel managers to pull off the small, outdated look, and makes it work, and look good. This restaurant was by no means fancy, but was clean, cozy, and friendly. The waitresses wore Jeans, and there was two fellows playing music and singing - a nice ambiance playing country music and such (the older fella played the piano, accordion, clarinet, flute, and sang. He reminded me of my father!)
Having seeing the menu on-line we knew that the prices were average (appetizer for about $10.00, main course $20.00), but we were not expecting much for our money.... we were wrong!
First we got bread with infused butter. Next were the appetizer - My fiance had the Ahi Tuna appetizer which had an asian flare to it, with cilantro - the presentation of it on the dish was great! I had the brushetta, which was covered in mozza (?) cheese, and caramelized- the cheese was standing up straight from the bread about 3 inches - phenomenal presentation!
For mains, he had the Filet Mignon, which came with two potato cakes - he said the steak "melted in your mouth", - I tried his steak, even though it was medium (I'm a blue rare fan and a fussy steak eater), and it was delicious! I had the lamb shank, which was a bit fatty, but still delicious with delicious sauces, and a unique corn/stuffing nugget which was delish!
For dessert we enjoyed a chocolate raspberry souffle, which was again was over-the-top! I had the New York Cheese cake, which was also delicious, but compared to our previous courses, the grid-like design made from caramel, seemed a bit plain as far as presentation goes (but now we are being fussy because we had NOTHING to complain about!)
The waitresses were amazing, and very attentive- after dinner we were enjoying the music, and they didn't rush us out until we asked for the bill. It was nice.
We will return!
