“True Historic Hotel Experience”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

Beautiful building and landscape details. As with most old hotels you hear the noise of unrestrained children running the stairs and shouting at each other. I wish our culture's families would have greater discipline and consideration for others. Lovely room. Keep the bathroom door closed if you don't want to hear other guests. Very pleasant staff. GREAT music on Friday night and the cafe's food was very tasty and fresh. Excellent coffee!

Room Tip: Proximity to the stairs = noise.

We initially picked this hotel by a default mainly because it was the closest to the ferry (which was running terribly) late and one of the few places in Orcas that still had available rooms in a late hour on a warm and sunny Friday. When we arrived there we were happy to find out that it's a super cute B&B. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly and since they had several rooms available she basically let us pick anyone we want.
The room was nice and clean and the whole house looks like it was taken from the colonial era.
The restaurant's staff was kind and the food was great and they even had a band that unfortunately we missed most of its show.
The whole experience was nice and relaxing and it felt like we are spending a night in the early 1900's or late 1800's.
The café at the house entrance same s the balcony have a lovely view of the bay and the islands where you can sit and relax with a cup of coffee (or wine...) and watch the sunset (assuming the ferry gets there before it’s dark).

The good thing about the hotel's location (close to the ferry) is also its flaw. Very early in the morning you start hearing the ferry’s horn and the loud announcements of the ferry’s crew.

The Orcas Hotel probably hasn't changed much since it was first opened but, when you're looking for relaxing a get away from today's hustle and bustle, that's not a bad thing. Our room was furnished with pieces that may have dated back to at least the early 1900's. We had a 1/2 bath but had to share the shower on our floor. Since we didn't go to Orcas Island for a luxury experience, that was all just fine.

We stayed at the Orcas Hotel midweek in late September 2013, so we were avoided peak traffic. The staff was very accommodating to adjust our rooms so that each of the three couples in our group got a room with at least the 1/2 bathroom. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. While I found the bed to be a little uncomfortable, it didn't keep me from sleeping soundly.

The food provided by the Orcas Hotel was a pleasant surprise. We checked in just after noon, so we grabbed a quick lunch from the cafe. My burger was sumptuous and the waffle fries were plentiful. We also had dinner at the hotel that evening and I would classify the menu as a gourmet variety of entrees and with interesting sides (plus excellent desserts). Breakfast at the cafe was included in the price and offered a good selection of hardy breakfast fare - all delicious. In each case, the meals were prepared to order by a small staff; so, it took a while to be served, but it was worth the wait.

All in all, we had a very pleasant stay.

We were placed in a room right above the café. The staff person helping us said it was the best choice since it had a great view of the ferry, which it did, but I wish he would have warned us about the noise. At about 5am we started hearing every single conversation going on underneath us. Our room was also very warm and stuffy so the second night we got a fan from the desk that helped with both the air flow and the noise. Its an old home and an old home comes with lots of problems so I wouldn't say it was unexpected. I would just warn folks to stay away from the room directly above the café.

Stayed in Morning Glory which has double or queen sized bed plus a daybed. Nicely furnished, although not newly updated. Small but adequate bath that was modernized. Beautiful harbor views from front porch and balcony. No lobby. Good included breakfast. Literally could roll down hill from front door onto ferry which was perfect for catching early morning ferry. No town to speak of at this spot on Orcas Island.

Quaint B&B on an extremely peaceful and quiet island... if you're looking to simply relax on the porch, play cards or dominos and sip wine, this is the place for you...

I do want to thank Ashley who helped us out one day when the toilet overflowed. Old buildings have old plumbing. She made sure it was taken care of and all was put back to normal when we returned.

While there is not a lot to do on Orcas Island, Moran Park and Mt. Constitution were well worth the drive, with an amazing view. Don't forget to check out the cute shops and restaurants in Eastsound.

If you drive around the island, keep an eye out for deer. The.y are all over the place

We stayed here one night last weekend after arriving on Orcas Island on the evening ferry. The location was very nice, just a minute's drive from the dock. When we checked in the woman who helped us didn't really seem to know where she was going or what she was doing. Didn't show us where the bathrooms were or tell us anything about the bar or restaurant. We checked in and stayed in Room 4 which was nice. Not super quiet but what I expected for an old hotel. We went to the bar for a drink and the service wasn't that great. We basically paid $20 for two glasses of wine. We finished the wine and the waitress/bartender never returned to offer us another drink or give us a check so we just threw a $20 on the bar and left. The bathrooms were really clean, there is only one with a toilet/shower in it, the rest were either a room with a shower with no outlets or mirrors or a room with a toilet and outlets/mirrors. The building itself is very cool. Lots of history and things to look at.
In the morning we had breakfast in the café. The food and coffee were good. Free with hotel stay. The woman behind the counter was really great, good personality and very cheerful. We had to wait until she could get a break from serving people in the café so we could check out. The breakfast view was wonderful. We sat on the porch and watched the boats go by.
