“Lovely location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

We chanced upon this pub onn a very wet bank holiday weekend.

The views were lovely, despite the rain and cloud.

We ate, fish and chips and pie and chips. Both very nice. The chips weren't much to write home about but they were ok.

Nice welcoming atmosphere and would go back if in the area again.

Visited the Shady Oak again today (15 April 2014) and once again we had two superb main courses. The atmosphere in the pub is very relaxing and the members of staff are usually welcoming and helpful. Whatever you choose from the starters, main course or dessert will be hot, well presented and delicious.Try to save room for dessert, the home made banoffi cheesecake is highly recommended. Price wise everything is reasonable, if you want to save a bit of money but still have a lovely meal, try the midweek saver menu.

The four of us have gone for a meal there for a numbers of years but now give it a wide berth. To be fair food was good but the sooner the lease is up the better she just moans at being at the pub. Husband on lap top when we were in. Doesn't matter how you feel. CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT . They are your bread an butter.

The first thing you feel when you walk through the door and approach the bar is that the landlady doesn't like you. The second thing you feel after asking for a drink is that the landlady prefers the content of her laptop to speaking to you. In fact the landlady should lock the door and deter all visitors to the pub, allowing people of a pleasant disposition requiring a drink, to go somewhere else. On a positive note, the pub is dog friendly and it would have been the only opportunity I would ever have rewarded him for soiling the carpet.

My husband, myself and our dog had a late lunch here today. We were out walking and before setting out I researched dog friendly places to get some lunch and The Shady Oak came up. I am glad it did. Perfect location, free parking and a very pleasant pub. There is a little room just to the left as you walk in the pub where dogs are allowed and they serve food in there too which is fab. Food was great we only had sandwiches and hot baguettes but very delicious and a great price.. Would call in again if in the area.

My husband and myself arrived with our 2 Airedale Terriers and were greeted with warmth and friendliness. We stayed for 3 nights and apart from 1 meal out we ate in for breakfast and evening meal. The food was well presented, good choice and real hearty food. The portions were very large so unfortunately I could only manage 1 course in the evening! We would highly recommend the Shady Oak for anyone wanting a break in a friendly, welcoming environment with beautiful food thrown in!
