Firstly, don't be put off by the exterior. The place reminded me from the outside of our local scout hut - but appearances can be and on this occasion are deceptive. A fantastic choice of specials in addition to the main menu - awesome fish & chips, squid, mussels and turbot
The tables are fairly close together so we ended up chatting to the parties on both sides of us, which wasn't a problem as they, like us, we're in high spirits.
Booking essential at weekends, and visiting an absolute must if you're in the area

We ate at this lovely restaurant right in the harbour at Amble today and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys seafood. The menu was quite extensive and there were additional special of the day for starters and main courses. The decor is lovely and the food and service were excellent.

4 of us have just had a spectacular lunch at this small unpretentious restaurant. We hadn't booked thinking Monday lunchtime wouldn't be busy how wrong we were and having experienced such a lovely meal I can see why. From the moment we arrived the staff were helpful and friendly we were shown to a table and our order taken very promptly. We chose 4 different starters of the specials board razor clams in white wine, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, salt and chilli squid and the show stopper soft shell crab. Having just returned from Venice where soft shell crabs are a delicacy we ordered these cautiously but they definitely didn't disappoint.
We then shared two portions of steamed shell fish for a main course. Razor clams, queenie scallops, surf clams, mussels, crab claws and crevettes this was superb served with crusty bread but all it needed was a spoon to drink up the lovely liquor.
A truly lovely lunch sat in the sunshine on the wonderful Northumberland coast!

This venue was chosen for a group celebrating a family birthday, and for everyone who enjoyed good quality fish fresh from the sea. The building from the outside looked rustic and not very modern, but the interior was bright and airy with casual décor and extensive menus to wet the appetite. The staff were all very cheerful and service was quick. I’ll let the pictures tell the story. I started with smoked salmon (amazing) followed by cod and chips (light and mouth watering) but just leaving enough room for a little desert (sticky toffee pudding with ginger and butterscotch sauce). Everyone was highly delighted with the food and would certainly recommend to anyone in the future. I nearly had the fresh lobster, but perhaps I’ll try that next time!!

If you like seafood and are in the region you should really make a trip to the old boat house. Nothing pretentious, just really good food and very friendly staff. We had 2 large glasses of wine (their house white is very good), 2 starters (razor clams which are very hard to find in restaurants and so yummy) and shared a platter of seafood (plenty enough of 2) and a side of home made chips for £54. Winner ! On top of that you have a lovely view of the sea from the windows. Will definitely go back when visiting the region.
