We were a bit stuck for somewhere to stay on Bequia during the Annual Mount Gay Music Festival and found the leaflet in the little tourist info booth near the ferry terminal. Luckily the owner, a proud Bequian called Ethel Ollivierre, had a cancellation and had an apartment for us. A good sized kitchen with all the appliances, separate bathroom and a bedroom with a decent bed and mosquito net all for US$75 per night. A couple of things to note: Ethel will ask for payment up front, preferably in US$ but local currency (EC$) will do and she will use the standard currency conversion rate. She will not take credit cards. Another thing is the location. It is a 10 minute walk out of the town of Port Elizabeth, past the Hospital, Police Staion and the Sports Ground up a steep hill with a very deep drainage gully on the side of the road (so be very careful in the dark). A taxi will take you there for 10-15 EC$. All the usual things like ATM, well-stocked supermarket and a decent local bar, also called Hibiscus (I think) are to be found at the bottom of the hill.
