Description: Tucked away inside the West Lodge Park Hotel, the Mary Beale Restaurant and Bar provides an elegant but unpretentious setting for any occasion. Enviably located close to Trent Park and Hadley Wood, the dining room is a traditionally stylish space with huge windows letting in plenty of natural light. Executive Chef Wayne Turner and his team use locally sourced produce to create seasonal British dishes and a selection of snacks and light options which are served in the bar. We recommend the organic salmon with dill risotto and the Sacombe Hill Farm beef fillet with mushroom gratin. Why not treat the family to the Mary Beale Restaurant's legendary Sunday lunch, or sample a glass or two from their excellent wine list?

My sister in law organised a "special" birthday lunch at the hotel a few weeks ago. Lovely location, food, and attentive staff. We all enjoyed a very nice few hours at the hotel in a private room over looking the lovely grounds

Superb location with good food, style and comfort. A most enjoyable time was had by all!

Thank you for your lovely review of lunch in a private room at West Lodge Park.

I am so delighted that everything went well, and that it was a memorable occasion for your family. Of course at this time of year, the grounds surrounding the hotel are not at their best, but I hope you at least enjoyed the views.

We have many families who have been coming to West Lodge Park to celebrate key moments of their lives in a private room, such as christenings, barmitzvahs, weddings, and wedding anniversaries (we hosted a 70th wedding anniversary not long ago - what a milestone !).

It would be a great pleasure to welcome you back to the hotel in the future, and in the meantime thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review not only to this Mary Beale Restaurant page, but also to the West Lodge Park page.

I am so glad you found the restaurant to your liking, all the more so after the horrible review we have received just below yours which bears no relation to the restaurant as experienced by many hundreds of guests each week of the year.

So thank you for raising the morale and the spirits of the hundred or so staff who work hard at West Lodge Park !

And do come again soon, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back !

Went in for lunch on Saturday the 9th Feb. The restuarant was extremely busy so we were a bit apprehensive on what service to expect, but we were seen to as soon as we arrived. Had a lovely drink in the bar, and shortly went through to our table. The staff were friendly and efficient, lovely atmosphere and superb food. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others for any occasion.
Would only suggest that they maybe reduce their numbers for lunch as it was clearly very busy, but the staff managed well. Lovely afternoon.

Thank you for your kind reviews about the Mary Beale Restaurant both on this page and on the West Lodge Park Hotel Tripadvisor page.

It was a pleasure to welcome you to the hotel, and yes, it was a particularly busy Saturday lunchtime - there was no reason for this other than a lot of people suddenly showed up without reservation and we did our best to look after all of them !

It would be a pleasure to welcome you back again - if you want a quieter time, try midweek around 12.30 or so, but personally I like a bit of a buzz in the restaurant.

Thank you once again for your kind reviews.

Just back from lunch with the family (party of 6) and have to say very dissapointed. Nice restaurant setting but extremely slow and bad service ! Almost 3 hours to serve and eat just 2 courses, we were already bored to have dessert. Roast lunch was seating under the heating lamps probably, so the meat was dry and we had to ask 3 times for sauces to eat it with.

The mackerel entree was good but the Hake for main course was simple and boring.

The gardens outside the restaurant were very nice but no even because of that I would go back.

Thank you for writing up your experience of the Mary Beale Restaurant following your recent Sunday lunch here.

However I must protest at some variations in your account to what you have written. Our team remember you well.

Your table was at 1.45pm and you left at 3.30pm, a relaxed meal of 1 3/4 hours certainly but not the three hours you claim.

As the main courses were served you told us that you were in a rush with a plane to catch. Had we known that at the start of the meal we could have had you all finished within an hour.

So the moral of the story is please, please communicate with us, let us know of any particular needs you have.

On Sunday lunchtimes, most people prefer a slower service as there is no rush to get away, and it is precious time around the table with family and friends. However we will always work quicker if that is what you want.

For information none of our meat is kept under lights. However if you found the lamb dry or the hake uninteresting, then of course we apologise.

On the day in question we had many delighted guests for lunch, including some large tables of families, all of whom left very happy with both food and service.

Please do come again and give us another try.

Regards,

Andrew Beale
