“Great Luxury Hotel”

Stayed for one night on business. The room was the biggest I've ever stayed in (and I'm in around ten hotels a month). Although their were a couple of small things that needed updating, I'd definitely stay again.

I ordered room service and both the service and the food was excellent.

I understand the hotel is under going some updating and I'm looking forward to seeing how it will improve things even further.

I was very disappointed with the west lodge park. I was given the Jade room (room 20) and it was like a sauna. The heat was unbearable. Now I know what the fan was for!!! If not for the heat, it may have been ok - the decor is on the shabby side, the bed was ok but the pillows too soft. My colleague also mentioned that her bed stank - though she would not elaborate what of. My room was clean though. The food on the whole was ok - would echo the sentiments of the other reviewer. The good was good but nothing to write home about.

I am so deeply sorry that some of our Trip Advisor reviewers have been disappointed with their stays at West Lodge Park.

I can faithfully promise all our Trip advisor friends that we take every comment seriously and deal promptly with any issues that arise.

During 2007 we have invested over £350'000 in upgrades at the hotel, and plan similar amounts in 2008.

It is truly an ongoing process of maintenance and improvements but what is not forgotten is the personal touch of a family hotel - we have been here since 1945 and many of the staff have been with us for a long time - in some cases back to the 1970's !

Of course this does not mean resting on our laurels as the needs of travellers are constantly changing, but what doesn't change is the need for a quiet clean bedroom, good food reasonably priced and served quickly, and a warm welcome. We genuinely believe we deliver on these.

Our website has a huge amount of information about the hotel and its history.

I am available at all times on email at andrewbeale@bealeshotels.co.uk and would love to hear from any of you with good or bad experiences.

In the meantime, if you see these comments on tripadvisor and decide to come and stay at West Lodge Park, please ask at the Terrace Bar for a complimentary glass of wine or beer on me as a way of saying thank you and welcome.

London , West Lodge Park: A bit shabby but good

The setting for this hotel is gorgous, it's so quiet but you are so close to London so its worth putting up with the decor which is quite shabby and old fashioned - for me a good nights sleep in a perfectly clean good sized room with a good breakfast is more important. The food in the restaurent was good enough - nothing to right home about. When I stay there again I would probably go out into the local area to eat as it seems quite a nice safe area.

Recently stayed at this hotel and was most impressed with the lovely building and lovely grounds. The drive to the front door is delightful and so hard to believe that you are still in London.

Reception was handled efficiently and the room was comfortable and sufficiently large. The decor was bright, the furnishings functional and the room was clean.

Breakfast was pleasant although some of the food had been kept warm for a rather long time. Evening meals were excellent but very very pricey and no a la carte menu. The second night we ate in the bar.....same food but a lot less cost.

This place would be delightful as a wedding venue as the grounds are extensive and well looked after. Staff are attentive and I would happily recommend the place but note there are some really nice eating places in nearby Cockfosters.

I've stayed at this hotel twice as a business traveller.

The grounds and setting for this hotel are beautiful and are the perfect tonic and great place to relax after a long journey or busy day at the office, especially if the weather is good.

My first stay was in the main hotel building, and I have to agree with previous comments about the rooms being a little dated and in need of a refurb. On my second stay the room was in a separate building to the main hotel, this room was more modern, and generally brighter and of a 4* standard.

Both the bar menu, and room service are of a good standard. I've always found all the staff to be helpful, accommodating and friendly.

  • Liked — Location - near London, but very tranquil setting
  • Disliked — Rooms in need up updating

I stayed at West Lodge Park because I like to get away from it all to do some school marking and a bit of reading newspapers. I found a great deal of £99.50 from [--]. It really is a great deal: afternoon tea, Dinner bed and breakfast and a light lunch!

The hotel itself does not look much on the outside but the grounds and leading up to the hotel looks really nice and relaxing. There is an Arboretum which had lovely trees and plants (better in the Summer rather than May). This was impressive for a place inside the M25.

The service in the Hotel was OK, but needs a lot of tweeking. They need to sort out getting a safe were you can take back individual objects rather than be given a sealed bag with everything in it. They need to get staff who are not frightened to ask you what you want for afternoon tea (even though I had a booking, nobody passing approached me to take my order). They need to talk to their Italian barman who started to argue with me about why he should keep open a door - wide open! - rather than close it to outside. I even remember him telling some women who wanted to sit in the bar area to shift somewhere else because they hadn't vacumned the bar area by 11am. I wouldn't say he was rude but there was no 4* finesse about him.

The first room I was given was number 20 until I realised that it was directly looking onto bins and the downstairs restaurant staff (drinking and smoking during their breaks) So, I moved to room 36 which was lovely and peaceful.

The one area they are really good in was the restaurant. The service was great, the waiting staff lovely people, timing impeccable and the menu a delight. It deserves its 2 rosettes. The Pineapple dessert was a wonder. The wine was superb.

Beware, however, as there is no gym on site. They get you a taxi to a nearby gym.

I would definitely go again, but please sort out some staffing issues!

Fantastic location, far away from road or aircraft noise. Well maintained grounds & gardens for walks & afternoon tea on the lawn. However let down by how tired the place looked. Our bedroom, although very spacious, looked in need of decent refurbishment- torn nets on windows, chipped glass in bathroom, loose bathroom tiles. The bed was truly awful- a trampoline would have been more comfortable. On the plus side, the staff could not have been more helpful, especially where children are concerned. There always seemed to be a member of staff around every corner, willing to assist with anything & everything. The food was also of a high standard, befitting the second AA rossette the hotel restaurant has been awarded. Overall not a bad place to stay- but insist on staying in a refurbished room!
