On a positive note, our pretty waitress was charming and the service good.
The pub got very noisy throughout the evening which made having a conversation very difficult and it wasn't fun being sat next to the door to the garden which left us all cold each time groups of smokers wanted to enter and exit.
My husband's burger was "ok" as was my friend's sausages and mash. My other friend had fish and chips...what on earth was the chef thinking by putting the cooked fish ON TOP of the chips thus making them soggy??????? There is stacking and there is stacking, and pubs should not do stacking, ESPECIALLY NOT on top of chips! I wanted the Caesar salad, but was told it was not available which led me to believe that they don't make their own dressing, because if they did, it would be on the menu, instead, I presumed that they had run out of the bottled stuff. How ludicrous. So I decided upon a sandwich. How can they possibly go wrong in making me a tuna sandwich? VERY VERY wrong! The thick white bread was STALE STALE STALE and the tuna mixed with mayonnaise was SPARCE SPARCE SPARCE. It was VILE VILE VILE and poorly presented, just cut in two. The chef should be ashamed of him or herself in not being able to make a decent sandwich. There is no excuse.
The noise was too loud for us so we left quickly. Not a good evening, not a good experience...Mr owner! please note....Two miles away, The Gate pub serves the kind of food that has people queuing for tables and it's always fabulous....I want you to succeed as well so please make this work and serve proper well HOME COOKED food, and we will all come a flocking to The Black Horse.
