Description: The oldest coaching inn in Barnet, there has been a pub on this site since 1553. Beams, exposed brickwork, wood panelling and open fires gives an authentic feel. There is also a large, well maintained outside courtyard drinking area. Not a restaurant as such, but a "proper" pub that does some pub food. Specialises in real ale. Several times winner of local CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year.

Echoing other reviews, this is a very classy pub with a friendly atmosphere. The new pup and the owner, landlord is actually what he said, greeted me at the bar. Saying I was visiting from the USA was an added bonus it seemed. Real friendly. I was there during the England/Uruguay Worldcup match and the crowd was polite and classy. Even let the visitor join them at a table. Had my first meat pie ever. It set standard high for the next. The pints were good. Stop by even if you're not a local. You'll be welcomed.

This pub has everything. Friendly atmosphere (unless you are looking for trouble or suffer from attitude problems then don't bother showing your face), great service, lovely food, good beer, dog lovers, community spirit, vast garden with electrical sunroof that covers most of it. A must visit for anyone coming to High Barnet. You might be lucky and be introduced to the newest family member of the establishment, a gorgeous German Sheppard puppy called Ollie......

Whenever we eat out in Barnet, we always pop in here first with our children. Families are welcomed and no-one bats an eyelid as we walk through the pub. There is plenty of space - we like the Stables bit out the back.
This is a proper old-fashioned pub with wooden floors and a roaring fire in winter. This is by far the nicest pub in Barnet with very friendly and helpful staff.

We only pop in for a pint once a week but we are welcomed as if we were a regular by the staff and other customers.

There is a wide range of excellent beers at a reasonable price.

The garden area is particularly pleasant on a warm day to enjoy your pint.

I recommend the Mitre.

The pub is one of very few remaing authentic proper old historic pubs left after the majority of pubs have been turned into flatpacked bitro pubs. The landlord has strict rules such as mo swearing and other general rules which makes this pub hooligan and lager lout free. The roaring fires feel like a big warm hug when entering on a cold winter night but truly the jewel in the place is the punters.
