“Rude and offensive.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

This is a lovely hotel in an beautiful setting. We stayed here two years ago and dropped in today for a coffee and a walk on the beach. So far so good...

We walked into the lounge to be grunted at by a "gentleman" who I took to be the owner. He hurried us off to the bar like some grubby street urchin who had the temerity to walk on his shag pile. Within these grunts was the explanation that the room was reserved as overspill for a party. Signing and a sprinkling of manners would have helped.

The next stage was for a polite member of staff to find us and take us back to the lounge. This prompted Basil Fawlty's Caledonian cousin to repeatedly strut the length of the lounge area whilst simultaneously spitting feathers. At one point we heard him barracking the lady who moved us back with shouts of "and now they are sat at the bloody window in the lounge". It's a shame he didn't have the guts to say something directly to us. We think he realised that he was in earshot and offending us, but probably didn't realise that he was also heard by the party in the next room which prompted some exits. Karma?

It's a shame we were treated in this offensive and aggressive way as we were certainly looking to make another weekend break here. As it is, not a chance in hell of directing our hard earned in his direction.

I would not recommend an establishment that treats its customers or staff in this way.

A real hidden gem, tucked away in Dumfries and Galloway just a short drive from Castle Douglas.
Beautiful setting with a fantastic view across the bay. The hotel is dog friendly (even a doggie goody bag in the room) Veggie and Vegan friendly and has a superb selection of wines for fine dining.
Staff were friendly and helpful, very efficient. The restaurant is excellent, imaginative cooking, well presented and delicious.
Good walks on your doorstep, peaceful, excellent decor, a truly comfortable hotel with a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Will definitely return to walk the beach again.

Room Tip: A sea view room is well worth booking.

This really is one of the most enjoyable places we have stayed in. The location, views from rooms and lounges, and the food; all just top class. There is also something special about its ambiance which we think is down to the staff. You're treated like a friend and engage you in conversation rather than simply answering a query. And they aren't pushy either so they are not on top of you all the time with overenthusiastic helpfulness.

It's just a great place and we would recommend it to anyone to the area.

Rob and Vinda Gray

Room Tip: Get one with a view of the bay.

Absolutely fabulous stay at this hotel. Service, food, ambience all great. Surprise, surprise Eggs Benedict for breakfast made my stay. Gorgeous Chocolates in room on arrival. Unfortunately I was greedy and ate both so my husband got none. Such is life.

Room Tip: Lovely room overlooking the Bay

Another superb Sunday lunch today, this is the 3rd time in 3 months. I would highly recommend anyone to go, you will not be disappointed. The lounge has been recently given a make over and it looks lovely which matches the stunning views.
