“My daughter loved sid and lizzy”

Just back from southerness holiday park. we had a great time , the swimming pool has been done up, brand new one with a flume , very nice. my daughter enjoyed all the activitie on offer. we had booked a forth caravan but their was mold on the curtains and as my daughter has ashma we felt we could not stay and went back to reception and they moved us to a nicer caravan with heating.
we cooked in our caravan but got a brillent steak pie from the shop at lighthouse leaisure next to caravan site, they supply from a butchers, best i have tasted in a good while.
night time entertainment was kids dancing , bingo, kids bingo then different acts etc, prices are normal for a caravan site, bit cheaper than haven.
only down fall was my partner has left his bergos jacket in changing room and came out to give me our daughter and when he had went back someone has taken it. did ask if anyone had handed it in , but the way the world is today their was no chance we are getting that back. bad day when someone can,t hand in a jacket. !!!!

reported it to police

Have just returned from a stay at Southerness and have to say would never return there! - It says it all when your husband is looking forward to visiting his mother rather than being on holiday!. Holiday was booked through the sun holidays and for the money the caravan was clean, reasonably comfortable and warm. The Venue Complex - when you could get into it - do not follow the times on the information sheet from reception in your welcome pack as you cannot enter building until after 10am! The childrens entertainment aimed at under 4's is unbelievably bad - expecting toddlers to sit around for over 25 minutes before the staff member explains the rules to them (entertainement not even started at this point!) Gave up at this point to explore the new 2 million pound heated pool - showers not working before we got into pool and definitely NOT heated - fine if you were a polar bear! and in may closes at 5 not 6 as in info pack. Coast bar - staff had to check what was on menu such as type of soup and childrens menu very poor - and could not get what we ordered. Very poor lack of knowledge of menus as spend 15 minutes trying to order fish and chips on take away! Staff had a very "couldn't care less" attitude and is bad when you have to ask for a spoon when you order soup. Childs meal arrived a while after parents meals and staff do not take the hint to leave when Sid the Seagull has your child in tears as he is scared of him!
Positives - the soft play area - when not full of older children - but then doesn't seem to be anything else for them except fruit machines, and the staff at the costcutters shop - very friendly although shop not the best stocked. Being 15 miles from Dumfries and nothing else in the area you expect better as you are a captive audience but you do not expect low season to mean low input and low expectations despite the deal being the sun holiday - although Southerness seem to take this attitude

Just come back from southerness holiday park having had such a fab time. After reading a review on here prior to going i was abit worried all i can say is they must have been staying somewhere else.
First of all our caravan was exceptional (three bed Dee) it was very clean on arrival and more than enough space for us.
The entertainment on site was mainly for the kids so with us having our six year old with us it was perfect she loved every minute of it and even cried when we left.
We are currently trying to work out when we can go back and i would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.
Well done parkdean thanks for a brilliant easter break.
P.s it just goes to show don't listen to the bad reviews on here.

Having just returned from our first trip to Southerness we are ready to book our next holiday here! Even out of season there was so much for us to do.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the new swimming pool at this site, well thought up with toddler part as well as a jacuzzi so we could all enjoy it together.
Staff were all so friendly to us and even on such a big site, felt very safe.
Nice quiet location on the coast too - a real find!!

Where do i start with this complaint!!

I booked a 4 day break at your Southerness caravan park in dumfries..i booked the dee caravan which stated that it was a deluxe caravan and the pictures of the caravan looked lovely and suitable for our family! However on arrival we were allocated our caravan only to find that the caravan we got was NOTHING like the one that was advertised on the website...Not one picture the website of the dee caravan resembles the caravan what so ever and as from deluxe i would say the caravan was basic and standard by no sence of the word deluxe! when we arrived we were missing duvet covers which we had to complain about as 3 single and 1 double duvet is not suitable for 7 people! the caravan was tiny and for 7 people was not suitable, the caravan door did not shut over properly and my daughter of 1 1/2 years fell out the caravan door....lucky she did not seriously harm herself! the main lounge area was so small that we had to move the table everytime we had finished eating as for 3 kids it was just a hazard! had the dining table been where it was in the pictures they advertised it would not have been a problem!! i went to reception to be moved but was advised that the park was fully booked so had to make do with the very little we had!
they advertise that you have Wi-fi to only find out on arrival that they only have wi-fi at the coast bar and even then using it at the coast bar you could not log on half the time!
The toilets at the coast bar and at the play area were discusting! you could not even walk into the toilets with the fowl smell......the toilets were NOT clean and out of 6 cubicles not 1 of them had any toilet roll!
We ordered lunch at the coast bar only to wait 2 HOURS for lunch to arrive and once it arrived i was very dissapointed to find a hair in my food which i obvisously sent back and complained about!!
In the kids play area there is no supervision what so ever with teenagers running about the kids soft play!
They advertise the swimming pool but fail to advertise that you only get in the pool for an hour and it was also discusting with my son ending up with verrucas!!
The whole park is run by young adults who could not care less!

I was extremely dissapointed with the whole holiday and which was ment to be 4 lovely days away turned into a nightmare and i will NEVER be returning to one of there caravan sites and will be making other places known of this!
How they can advertise a caravan with pictures which you say on your website "resemble the actual caravan" is beyond me as in fact they are of no resemblence what so ever! how can a family can book a caravan suitable for there family and kids if when they arrive the caravan is nothing like what you have advertised?

VERY VERY VERY disappointing!!

I thought I would write a review as I have never written one before. We booked up for two nights just for a break to get away. The area is lovely and the campsite is OK nothing special but not that bad.the pool which is brand new is great although not massive although not overcrowded .If you like the night entertainment the show bar is where to go and the kids can play in the arcade if that is what you allow them to do.If you don't like that kind of thing then don't go there at night because as i said if that that is what you want then it is there. The drinks at the bar are not that bad and was actually quite surprised that were not trying to rip you off.and although we didn't eat in the bar area it looked nice and quite reasonable nothing to moan about. What we did was go to the local pub called the Paul Jones it has everything pool table everything for kids and the drink is even cheaper.we had meals in the restaurant area both nights and although expensive it was worth it what a beautiful meal. This pub is a MUST if you like good food with a decent size portion but again you will pay for it.All in all i enjoyed my 2 nights you get what you pay for and if you dont like the holiday camp thing then don't go near the entertainment at night if what you want is a quiet weekend with your own space with a couple of nice meals you should try this place.LOVELY SCENERY

Booked the caravan in Feb 2011 for our stay in April ( school spring break ) Picked this particular park due to location and also the new pool with flumes etc which was advertised. I received a message on my phone three days prior to our stay to inform us that the new pool would not be ready. No compensation, no time to make alternative arrangements. The reason I was given was that scottish power would not give them access for some reason !! Arrived on the monday to be told straight away that there would be no power to the caravans and the entire site on one of the days. We were given £5 compensation per person. Not an ideal start to the holiday. I drove past one of the car parks and noticed large plastic palm trees on the grounds, awaiting being put in position in the new pool. This gave me the impression that the pool would never had been ready for the advertised date. The caravan we had was lovely and nice new 2 bedroom one, very clean. The park itself was ok. However on our last night we were told there was an hour and a half waiting for food. We drove to the nearby chip shop and came back to see several people still awaiting their food 2 hours later. The place seemed to be understaffed and I felt sorry for the workers which were on. You would think the site would arrange more cover for the school holidays. I wont be returning to the park which is a shame as I feel this could have been a much more enjoyable experience, however due to poor management it wasnt the best of times.
