“Excellent short break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

We've just returned from a long weekend at the Parkdean caravan park at Southerness. Our caravan accommodation was excellent, spotlessly clean and plenty room for us. There was everything you could need in the caravan. The park itself was also great. We didn't go to the evening entertainment as we had a small child with us but the soft play and swimming pool were excellent. We ate at the on site Coast bar and all of our meals were splendid. The double bed was more comfortable than our bed at home!! The big thing for us was how friendly and polite the staff were, not just the customer facing staff but the staff you bumped into on the site. Would definitely recommend and definitely go back. Thank you.

We took our touring caravan there for a long weekend and the facilities were brilliant! We had a pitch with electric and water hooked up. The shower and toilet block was spotlessly clean. The restaurant on site had a lot of choices on the menu and the meal we had was very good. We will certainly be going again!

Stayed here with my hubby, 2 kids under 4 and my inlaws. We stayed from Friday through to Monday. The weather was lovely although it was windy. Our caravan was clean, modern and spacious. The park itself has a large entertainment centre with a restaurant, show bar, pool, soft play and arcade. There is also a laundrette and shop.
My kids loved it. We were able to keep them entertained all day.
Nearby there is a beach which is a mixture of shingle and sand. There are also gift shops, arcades, a chip shop and a couple of bars within 5 minutes walk from the park.
There were only 2 things I felt needed improving. First, the shop on site is very expensive. So make sure you pack all the essentials. Second, the pool is not warm enough. I had to take my little girl out after half an hour as she was turning blue.
Apart from that I felt this was a great place to bring the kids on a wee holiday.

Recently came back from here and enjoyed it. I would go back great onsite complex for those rainy days. Great beach view and perfect location. Only downside was the take away service was slow and order was wrong so had to wait longer....otherwise a very enjoyable stay. Dont let the negative comments put you off, I dont know what people expect from a caravan holiday. Entertainment was very great. I would highly reccomend this site and even considered buying a van but the wife said no, lol. Great stay, value for money and very friendly staff

This was our first visit to Southerness but it won't be our last. The caravan park is huge!! We stayed in the "Findhorn" caravan and were allocated "sea view no17" and I would say without a doubt that we had the best spot in the whole caravan site. It was at the opposite end of the caravan park so it was lovely and quiet. A car is definitely required to make the most of the area. The caravan itself was lovely. Our party had 4 adults, a 3 year old and a baby and we felt there was loads of room for us all. The type of caravan we stayed in had the living area in the middle which I thought was unusual but it actually worked really well. It does mean you can't sit in the living area and look out the window to the seaside but there is a large decked area where you can view the great outdoors.

We have stayed in many caravans so generally know how everything works but one thing I would suggest is each caravan has a booklet/manual to go through the different things, especially the heating system and the washer/dryer. We ended up having to get the maintenance guy to come to caravan at approx. 11.30pm as the caravan was really cold and we couldn't get the thermostat or boiler to work. If there had been a set of instructions in the caravan, the problem could have been avoided. There was a latch missing from the living room window which meant it didn't shut properly and the coffee table had a broken leg but these problems were promptly resolved. There were instruction manuals in the drawer for the kettle(!), toaster(!) but not one for the washer/dryer which would be much more helpful. The beds were really comfy and the duvets were incredibly toasty. A few more coat hangers in the double room would have been handy as storage/ drawer space was quite limited. Overall the caravan was clean and well equipped.

One thing that did impress us was the fact that each caravan had its own wheelie bin outside. It meant we only had to go to the main bins with our recyclables. Where our caravan was situated, there was a small play park 30 seconds from the caravan, much to the delight of our 3 year old.

There is a wee shop on site but we found on the first night that it closed at 6pm and there are no other shops nearby so we had to wait and get bread in the morning. (we did manage to scrounge some milk from the local chippy!) I would definitely suggest coming prepared.

The entertainment complex was good with lots of amusements. Soft play area was good but no one was there stopping the bigger kids going in and running up the slide and spoiling it for the younger ones, who, lets face it, the area is for. We didn't eat at the restaurant but it certainly looked nice and always had people in it.

Family used the pool a couple of times but we felt we couldn't take our 3 month old son in as the water was a bit cool.

Overall, we had a great holiday at Southerness and we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: I would be requesting a sea view. (Nicer to look at the seaside than into someone else's caravan...

Our stay couldn't have been better. We had a lovey caravan which was super clean. The interior was really nice and modern. The bedding was crisp white cotton.

The staff from reception, to bar, to arcade were so welcoming. The park entertainment team were amazing. The quality of children's entertainment was particularly impressive.

Look forward to returning soon.

Booked short notice for a bank holiday break. We were not sure what to expect but we were really pleased. The caravan was lovely, big, clean and in an ideal location within the park. The facilities on site were great. There's a shop on site for all essentials. The pool area is managed with colour bands and when it is busy, they call out different colour bands - this ensures the pool is never too crowded. The downside and disappointment was the jacuzzi which was not hot water. There is plenty to do and see in the area but there is also plenty to do on site with the beach being a few minutes walk away. All in all we had a lovely time and would definitely visit again.
