Trigony is well placed only some fifteen miles north of Dumfries and ideally suited for visiting that part of the Scottish west coast and the new attraction of Dumfries House that is well worth visiting!

The rooms are very clean and well kitted out with good bathrooms, TV and tea/coffee facilities. Our room looked out on to the well kept gardens. Dinner was excellent on both nights and the wine list more than adequate.

I took the trip across from North Berwick by motorcycle and the meandering route via Moffat is an enjoyable ride ; my wife came by car the shortest route, an hours journey time from home and an equally pleasant time enjoying the en route.

The staff are more than pleasant and I couldn't help but notice the feeling of 'country house' attention. I noticed that one reviewer found the presence of the lack of staff somewhat disconcerting but quite honestly all you have to do is ring the bell. Someone will be with you instantly!

I enjoyed my stay and my fellow guests agreed that this stay will not be the last !

Thank you to everyone there for giving us what we wanted.

Room Tip: The hotel is off the road in its own ground, so every room will be quiet! Over looking the garden is...

We have stayed in the Trigony a few times and always found it to be excellent. However, on Wednesday we were passing and dropped in for lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant was not open for lunch that day. The owner saw our disappointment and immediately opened his kitchen and prepared an absolutely wonderful lunch. I can't praise the quality of service highly enough. An absolute must if you are in the area or you want a break in the area.

Room Tip: The room above the garden room is great

This hotel was warm, comfortable and bright with lovely views of the well looked after grounds.
The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable, so much so that I could have spent ages sitting in it, looking out at the garden view!
The food was delicious and had a lot of personal touches, lovely flavours etc. Obviously home made food which made all the difference and worth the money you pay for it. The full breakfast was one of the best I have ever had! Lovely bit of haggis, which I had never tried before was a welcome addition. And the flavours of the scrambled eggs and the mushrooms were just yummy! Would certainly return, and perhaps with our doggy this time, as it is also a dog friendly hotel and the dogs seemed very happy to be there too!

Wonderful room, breakfast, supper and welcome for our dog; every detail was perfect. The location is glorious and the walking country is dramatic yet tranquil. Breakfast was divine, and certainly fuelled a day's walking, and many a Michelin-starred restaurant has failed to compare to the delicious supper.

I booked this hotel as a place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. A bit of luxury for a special occasion. I found the staff professional and attentive without being intrusive. Despite it's relaxed warm atmosphere, attention to detail was excellent. Lots of wee touches that made us feel a bit spoiled. All food made on premises from good quality ingredients. Delicious!!! Champagne, flowers and chocolates included in the package we booked, were of a high standard and not cheap naff quality that I have experienced elsewhere. A very nice addition which we both appreciated. Cleaners do an excellent job, as despite numerous people having their dogs with them, there was no odour in the communal areas or our bedroom and no hair on carpets or furnishings. I'm sure if your out to find fault and nit pick you'll be able to complain about something, but for us, we found it a perfect place to relax and escape for a romantic couple of days. This was our first visit, but will definitely won't be our last, and despite only being away a few hours, have already recommended it to many friends and family members. Well done to the owners and staff. The hotel is a credit to you.

This was our 4th time staying at the Trigony House Hotel. If you have a dog this is the place to go. Very doggy friendly. I have been to other hotels that are supposed to be dog friendly until to get there and discover the only place your dog is allowed is your bedroom. This experience has put me of other hotels as my dog cried when we left him. Trigony is totally different. The only place your dog is not allowed is the restaurant but you can take them into the bar where the food is fantastic all locally produced. The grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of maps for walkers. Our dog Rory got his sausage every morning when we came down for breakfast. The staff cant do enough for you. They provide doggy bags, biscuits and clean towels and soapy water if your dog needs a wash after his walk. We have met some lovely guests when we have stayed. On one of our visits the hotel was booked out for a wedding. We were made so welcome that I didnt want to go home as i felt part of the wedding party. That wedding had 3 dogs in attendance so it was ideal for a small family wedding of dog lovers. There is a small quaint town nearby called Thornhill i like to brouse around. We use Trigony as a place to go and have a good rest. It is only an hours drive from the lake district. Cant wait to go back.

Trigony House was our base to explore the Dumfries and Galloway area. The rooms were comfortable, quiet and clean with great views. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful - they gave great advice on local attractions. But above all, the food is delicious.
