“Great Find - Quirky Country Hotel”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We booked very late having changed hotels. The difference could not be more striking. This small country hotel has very friendly, professional staff who are very keen to give personal service and nothing, it seems, is too much trouble.

An unashamedly dog-friendly hotel, we enjoyed meeting well mannered dogs and their owners in the lounge. The rooms are very comfortable even if the hot water does take some time to arrive, but hey, its an old building ! We loved the little touches, organic toiletries, amazing home made bread and marmalade and lovely gardens to wonder in. The quality of the food was simply outstanding. If we're ever in the area again, for au unusual experience, so much nicer that the sterile Hiltons and Mariott's of our world, this is the place to come.

Booked for one night on way north and as special meal for wife. On the plus side we found the staff very helpful except for one instance. The place looks nice from the outside with beautiful gardens and the rooms were spacious. The main of belly of pork was very well done.
On the negative side. The decor was a bit faded, the room was boiling without the aid of central heating. Might have been because we were above the kitchen. My wives main of salmon was swimming in a not very pleasant sauce and the vegetables were largely undercooked. Some were fine and I like my vegetables to have a bit of a crunch but the broccoli was very tough as were some of the potatoes. The wine was a bit expensive and while it was nice it did not really merit its price. On the other hand, the bar drinks were very reasonable.
I reported a dead mouse lying by the front entrance but it had not been moved by the time we left.
Overall, probably a bit overpriced for what it offered.

Room Tip: Don't get one over the kitchen.

We stayed here to visit family in the area and were very pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dinner was delicious overlooking the charming and well maintained garden. The home made preserves at breakfast were testament to the attention to detail. Wonderful marmalade!

Trigony is well placed only some fifteen miles north of Dumfries and ideally suited for visiting that part of the Scottish west coast and the new attraction of Dumfries House that is well worth visiting!

The rooms are very clean and well kitted out with good bathrooms, TV and tea/coffee facilities. Our room looked out on to the well kept gardens. Dinner was excellent on both nights and the wine list more than adequate.

I took the trip across from North Berwick by motorcycle and the meandering route via Moffat is an enjoyable ride ; my wife came by car the shortest route, an hours journey time from home and an equally pleasant time enjoying the en route.

The staff are more than pleasant and I couldn't help but notice the feeling of 'country house' attention. I noticed that one reviewer found the presence of the lack of staff somewhat disconcerting but quite honestly all you have to do is ring the bell. Someone will be with you instantly!

I enjoyed my stay and my fellow guests agreed that this stay will not be the last !

Thank you to everyone there for giving us what we wanted.

Room Tip: The hotel is off the road in its own ground, so every room will be quiet! Over looking the garden is...

We have stayed in the Trigony a few times and always found it to be excellent. However, on Wednesday we were passing and dropped in for lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant was not open for lunch that day. The owner saw our disappointment and immediately opened his kitchen and prepared an absolutely wonderful lunch. I can't praise the quality of service highly enough. An absolute must if you are in the area or you want a break in the area.

Room Tip: The room above the garden room is great

This hotel was warm, comfortable and bright with lovely views of the well looked after grounds.
The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable, so much so that I could have spent ages sitting in it, looking out at the garden view!
The food was delicious and had a lot of personal touches, lovely flavours etc. Obviously home made food which made all the difference and worth the money you pay for it. The full breakfast was one of the best I have ever had! Lovely bit of haggis, which I had never tried before was a welcome addition. And the flavours of the scrambled eggs and the mushrooms were just yummy! Would certainly return, and perhaps with our doggy this time, as it is also a dog friendly hotel and the dogs seemed very happy to be there too!

Wonderful room, breakfast, supper and welcome for our dog; every detail was perfect. The location is glorious and the walking country is dramatic yet tranquil. Breakfast was divine, and certainly fuelled a day's walking, and many a Michelin-starred restaurant has failed to compare to the delicious supper.
