“An embarrassment of poverty”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

Six of us ,at my suggestion, had a meal to celebrate my birthday at Trigony. Disappointment set in when we were presented with the dinner menu. It was a poor imitation of the online menu which had been the main attraction of this restaurant. Having previously decided that one of the several choices of lamb or pork dishes would be my choice of a main dish, I was disappointed to find that none of them were on offer. That was nothing compared to my embarrassment at what two of my friends received as their starters. They had two small scallops sitting forlornly in the middle of each of their plates. My starter of smoked salmon with artichoke and salad boasted one small piece of artichoke and was a dull affair. The main courses, such as were available, were adequate. Again, however, the choice of desserts was poor compared to what appeared in the online menu. What we had was acceptable but far from outstanding.
For a celebratory meal there are restaurants in our area which are superior in terms of quality, service and value.

My husband and I stayed here on the way up and on the way back from Fort William. We were not disappointed! It truly is dog friendly and our miniature schnauzer was made to feel very welcome (even getting her own sausage at breakfast!) we booked the garden room which was perfect with its own conservatory and garden which suited travelling with a dog. We had a comfortable nights sleep on both occasions. There are walks from the hotel and maps of these were provided so we could go walkies before breakfast. There is a bar area where you can eat dinner and breakfast with your dog and the food and wine selection is excellent. The gardens are beautiful also and the owners exceedingly friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Stayed last week for one night. Rooms 7 & 8.... Both lovely with nice attention to detail. We were all very happy. Room 8 is large, room 7 very compact. Views from all windows were charming. Bathrooms were also very nice. We enjoyed meeting some of the dog guests and thought it a real novelty to share public spaces with them. We ate in the bar for breakfast and dinner and whilst sitting there enjoyed taking in the various little interior touches.. There is nothing tacky or cheap anywhere. The owners are very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Dinner was very nice and breakfast probably one of the nicest I've had. Orange juice wasn't fresh...but will say I can't remember the last time I was served fresh juice in a hotel..just doesn't happen! Loved the retro mugs in our rooms with homemade shortbread..

We spent two nights at Trigony to mark our wedding anniversary. The welcome was warm, the staff delightful, and breakfasts and dinners excellent. Although just off the A76, the hotel seems a world away from the hustle and bustle. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the hotel buildings charming. Oh to be young and small enough to ride the gorgeous rocking horse in the entrance hall!

Room Tip: Room 1 overlooks the entrance to the hotel, and looks towards the nearby road. However there is litt...

We spent 2 nights here and the welcome we received was excellent. The staff were very helpful and did not mid the fact that we would not return until after midnight. Breakfast each morning was spectacular - the black pudding and haggis were especially good. The room was comfortable and clean and would love to return again if I am in the area.
