“Let down by catering”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2013

The setting and grounds are magnificent and the interior of this hotel has clearly had a great deal of money spent on it in very recently. It maintains its historic atmosphere whilst at the same time has sufficient modern touches to avoid it being stuffy or too old fashioned.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and there are no complaints in so far as cleanliness.
The big let down was the food. On arriving we were told that the dining room shut at 20.00.
We rushed in to find a menu which was wholly uninspiring and, bearing in mind it was the hottest day of the year with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees a menu with only 3 choices including winter staples such as braised beef and vegetable soup was disappointing.
We were then told there were staff shortages and we might have to wait an hour for our food.( there was one other person in the dining room! )
We eventually ate in the bar where the fish and chips were in fact excellent.
Breakfast on both days was also disappointing. whilst again the service was good and friendly the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. The bacon was a shade of grey stuck together and looked completely undercooked and as if it had been boiled. the sausages were similarly grey and did not look as if they had seen a grill or a frying pan, scrambled egg was dry and overcooked and I am told the baked beans were cold. If the chef went for 2 weeks training at a Little Chef his ability to cook breakfast would be considerably improved.
It is a great pity that the food was such a let down as otherwise I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and use it again

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor in hot weather there is no AC, not normally a big problem in Scotland

My wife and I visited this establishment at the beginning of July 2013, looking forward to a leisurely afternoon. At a cost of almost £20 per head for afternoon tea one would have expected a very nice and fresh afternoon tea. On being seated, first impressions had a tell tell story as crumbs were still on the table from the previous sitting. When it came to availability of tea only tea offered was english tea. No other teas were available. coffee was extremely weak and no cream was available. Although sandwiches were tasty enough the actual cakes and scones were extremely poor. Scones the size and as hard as a gold ball. When expressed our dismay we were offered a nice very sorry but that did not prevent them from taking £ 40.00 for the worse afternoon tea ever. For that value not only quality was poor, but also quality of service was much left to be desired. The whole experience was so bad that we decided to leave after 40 minutes. If you did decide to go here is what to expect to get: 4 small sandwiches, 1 small expresso cup of soup, 4 golf size scones hard as a rock, 2 slices of banana cake and two quarter of what looked like some sort of chocolate bar, extremely poor tea and coffee (Best is to take your own tea bags). If you like cream with you scones or like fresh scones best is to try a cafe next door at a quarter of the price.

I wish to offer my sincere apologies on this occasion - I am highly disappointed to have read about your experience with the afternoon tea with us. I would like to kindly request if you can contact me direct so that I can offer you a complimentary return visit to showcase the true afternoon tea experience you should have received during your first visit.

My husband found Carberry Tower last minute online. We were so in awe of how magically beautiful the castle and grounds were. We had booked the least expensive room and decided to upgrade to a suite once seeing the smaller room. The suite was huge and fabulous. The Carberry had a multitude of rooms to enjoy such as a library, music room, game room, outdoor patio with heaters, a beautiful garden, and lovely breakfast restaurant, and quaint bar. The service was wonderful and we would definitely recommend The Carberry Tower to anyone. A big thank you to the staff for making this a most memorable part of my United Kingdom vacation!

On a late work trip to Edinburgh I could not getting to any hotel in the city.
Thank you Edinburgh film festive,,,,,,
Any way my pa booked me into what turn out to be the most beautiful castle/hotel what can you really say driving up the drive way you see the grand towers.
The service when we got to the hotel was great, the room was very large and very relaxing.
My own real problem with the hotel is that the is no real restaurant with a al a carte menu just the dining package and at £55 a head it's a bit on the dear side for a work night.
We was offer the bar menu but not real to my taste. But the helpful staff told me about a great steak restaurant down the road. A great hotel can't wait to go back for a none working visit. Thank to all the staff. Also a five star breakfast in the morning.

Stayed at Carberry Towers for two nights as my girlfriend and I were attending a wedding on Friday and the Scotland game on the Saturday. From checking in to checking out the whole weekend was wonderful, staff were very attentive, breakfast was great and the rooms left nothing to be desired; perhaps a touch small but not a problem. We needed a taxi to the wedding which was ordered for us while we had a drink and called for when it arrived. Some lovely short walks around the grounds after breakfast and some fantastic history surrounds the Tower. Will definitely use Carberry again in the future

My Daughter and I stayed at Carberry Tower as guests at a wedding there in June 2013. I have nothing but praise for the Reception staff. The rooms are nicely furnished and the tea/coffee equipment lack nothing but a small pack of biscuits. The house and grounds are spectacular and beautifully maintained. The cooked Breakfast was standard and slightly mass produced. We were delighted with our room with a view - not requested! Altogether a fantastic venue.

My husband and I first stayed at Carberry last year and whilst the accommodation was lovely (we stayed in the Mary Queen of Scots Suite), every thing else was very lacking. We visited there on the 10th June this year for two evenings on our way to visit relatives in Scotland and this time we had a great stay. We stayed in the Strathmore Suite and the two evenings we tried the dining experience. The first evening (our wedding anniversary) our host was Jason - he is a natural and made our evening. There were only 6 of us in the dining room but the food was good and the atmosphere was excellent. The second evening the main course of steak was tough and we sent it back - we were disappointed not to be offered an alterative by the waiter but maybe he was new to the hotel. All in all, we had a great time, there are still a few issues for the management to sort but it is getting there!! Would we visit for a 3rd time - yes. If you haven't tried Carberry yet do visit.

Room Tip: Any of the suite are lovely
