Visually impressive driveway as you approach this imposing country house venue. The building itself and the expansive lawns give a fantastic first impression.
Around 5 mins from both the A68, A1 and the Edinburgh bypass this venue is well located for a variety of functions and events. There is the bonus of additional accommodation in the Lodges and a Premier Inn 5 mins down the road.

We stayed in the lodges but were fortunate enough to see in some of the rooms in the main building (around 4or 5 times the price), they like the grounds are grand and spacious in a country house sort of way, which this is, rather than a five star hotel type of room.

This is a wonderful setting for a wedding with grounds and rooms that lend themselves to being photographed, grand libraries, staircases, piano rooms,a lovely flower garden, shaded wooded areas, a reed-bed type area with wooden bridges, wide open lawns and all with a backdrop of fields and woods. What more could you want for fantastic memories of your special day?

Grumble? Yes, a couple, but none that a little attention to detail couldn't erase;
The garden outside the whisky bar could do with a weed, especially the area around the lovely little shaded seat right outside the door. There were weeds all throughout the various beds, not something you'd notice on first glance but it just takes that little edge of perfection off.
Organisation, don't call your guests through for the wedding breakfast then have them queued snaking along narrow corridors for ten minutes only for you to send them all back again saying that the meal will be another fifteen minutes - poor communication between kitchen and front of house staff that could have and should have been avoided.
The food, a delightful, lovely crisp tart for first course was followed by the most inedible beef it has been my misfortune to ever attempt to chew; by all accounts the other dish of chicken was wonderfully moist and succulent - was this the reason for the delay? Had the beef been ready but the chicken not and they'd had to keep the beef warm? Had I been eating privately rather than as a guest at a function the beef would most certainly have been returned to the kitchen, but, in the circumstances the number of plates which still had the beef remaining uneaten should have told its own story, I sincerely hope the venue apologised and gave the hosts a refund - it was that poor.
Breakfast, on the Saturday it was full table service and the food was well cooked and fresh, a really good, tasty traditional Scottish breakfast, yet on the Sunday we were informed it would be buffet style and it proved to be a major disappointment with lukewarm, greasy food and congealed eggs. It left the very unprofessional feeling that , "We've got your money now and you'll soon be on your way" .

To sum up, great location, lovely grounds, good knowledgeable staff in the bars and during most of the event. Apart from the corridor calamity the staff kept everyone informed of what was happening and where they should be. Great food, the first breakfast, the tart and the chicken. Terrible food, the beef and the Sunday breakfast.

Sort out the little details and people will be queuing up to get married here for many years to come. Get blasé and the booking will soon fall, which would be a crying shame as this place, potentially has it all!

Room Tip: Match your room to your expectations and your budget. Money no object - the main house. Cost conscio...

if you fancy a night away from it all with plenty of nature, a castle from the 14th century with beautiful rooms and very good food and drink prices this place is for you. It is in the middle of know where and would suit those who like walking or who just want to chill out in the amazing gardens or lounge. We arrived early but room was not ready however we were going to the races and they so kindly provided a room to get changed in etc. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Only issue whole stay was buffet breakfast in big silver trays makes it hard to feed yourself as nowhere to sit the tray tops - Is a must for those that fancy a night away just near Musselburgh and 12 pound in a taxi to the racecourse.

Room Tip: would ask for a spacious room not one on the top floor

This hotel is the perfect combination of a beautiful, well appointed, modern hotel in an ancient shell. The grounds are spectacular with deer often running across the lawns. The food is amazing and the restaurant is spacious whilst still retaining a very cosy feel. The breakfast is first class and the staff are very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the area. There are often deals on Groupon and the place is well worth a special visit. However, it is also perfect for visits to nearby Edinburgh or as a gateway to the highlands.

Room Tip: The Bowes-Lyon suite is amazing

The setting and grounds are magnificent and the interior of this hotel has clearly had a great deal of money spent on it in very recently. It maintains its historic atmosphere whilst at the same time has sufficient modern touches to avoid it being stuffy or too old fashioned.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and there are no complaints in so far as cleanliness.
The big let down was the food. On arriving we were told that the dining room shut at 20.00.
We rushed in to find a menu which was wholly uninspiring and, bearing in mind it was the hottest day of the year with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees a menu with only 3 choices including winter staples such as braised beef and vegetable soup was disappointing.
We were then told there were staff shortages and we might have to wait an hour for our food.( there was one other person in the dining room! )
We eventually ate in the bar where the fish and chips were in fact excellent.
Breakfast on both days was also disappointing. whilst again the service was good and friendly the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. The bacon was a shade of grey stuck together and looked completely undercooked and as if it had been boiled. the sausages were similarly grey and did not look as if they had seen a grill or a frying pan, scrambled egg was dry and overcooked and I am told the baked beans were cold. If the chef went for 2 weeks training at a Little Chef his ability to cook breakfast would be considerably improved.
It is a great pity that the food was such a let down as otherwise I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and use it again

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor in hot weather there is no AC, not normally a big problem in Scotland

My wife and I visited this establishment at the beginning of July 2013, looking forward to a leisurely afternoon. At a cost of almost £20 per head for afternoon tea one would have expected a very nice and fresh afternoon tea. On being seated, first impressions had a tell tell story as crumbs were still on the table from the previous sitting. When it came to availability of tea only tea offered was english tea. No other teas were available. coffee was extremely weak and no cream was available. Although sandwiches were tasty enough the actual cakes and scones were extremely poor. Scones the size and as hard as a gold ball. When expressed our dismay we were offered a nice very sorry but that did not prevent them from taking £ 40.00 for the worse afternoon tea ever. For that value not only quality was poor, but also quality of service was much left to be desired. The whole experience was so bad that we decided to leave after 40 minutes. If you did decide to go here is what to expect to get: 4 small sandwiches, 1 small expresso cup of soup, 4 golf size scones hard as a rock, 2 slices of banana cake and two quarter of what looked like some sort of chocolate bar, extremely poor tea and coffee (Best is to take your own tea bags). If you like cream with you scones or like fresh scones best is to try a cafe next door at a quarter of the price.

My husband found Carberry Tower last minute online. We were so in awe of how magically beautiful the castle and grounds were. We had booked the least expensive room and decided to upgrade to a suite once seeing the smaller room. The suite was huge and fabulous. The Carberry had a multitude of rooms to enjoy such as a library, music room, game room, outdoor patio with heaters, a beautiful garden, and lovely breakfast restaurant, and quaint bar. The service was wonderful and we would definitely recommend The Carberry Tower to anyone. A big thank you to the staff for making this a most memorable part of my United Kingdom vacation!

On a late work trip to Edinburgh I could not getting to any hotel in the city.
Thank you Edinburgh film festive,,,,,,
Any way my pa booked me into what turn out to be the most beautiful castle/hotel what can you really say driving up the drive way you see the grand towers.
The service when we got to the hotel was great, the room was very large and very relaxing.
My own real problem with the hotel is that the is no real restaurant with a al a carte menu just the dining package and at £55 a head it's a bit on the dear side for a work night.
We was offer the bar menu but not real to my taste. But the helpful staff told me about a great steak restaurant down the road. A great hotel can't wait to go back for a none working visit. Thank to all the staff. Also a five star breakfast in the morning.
