We were 4 golfers and stayed 2 nights at the Open Arms. Owner Chris and his staff could not have been more attentive and welcoming. The hotel itself is very comfortable, the food good, and all very fairly priced. We will be returning !

we stayed here last week, just the one night, but everything about the hotel was perfect. The sitting room areas are well furnished, the views over the castle are really good and the bedroom we had was all we needed (could have said lovely, but it did need a little bit of updating, but nothing to bother us)
The feature was the food, as this was the best meal I had eaten in a long time. The bistro menu was very good and everything about what we ate was just perfect. Seriously, compliments to the chef, well done and thank you very much.
One little thing about the hotel though was that it doesn't have a bar. Had we known this before our visit I think it would have bothered us but it wasn't a problem and we had draught beer, and a variety of other drinks served to us in the lounge area, and sitting outside from somewhere. A bit strange but it works for them. We also used the pub just up the road.
We will certainly go back here when next visiting this lovely part of the country

Room Tip: good views at the front of the hotel, but traffic a bit noisy in the morning

We stayed at The Open Arms to enable my Mother to attend her friend's 100th birthday party. The stay was just perfect, comfortable rooms, first class food and the service was exemplary. You really got the feeling that nothing was too much trouble and that made the whole event all the more special for my daughter and I, who were able to enjoy a lovely restful break as well as acting as driver and organiser for Mum. Better still, our 2 Border Terriers were welcome!

Next year is our 25th wedding anniversary and I now know I've found the perfect spot for a weekend retreat and celebration. Thank you!

My 'average' score for children's activities simply recognises that this is a hotel, and a very comfortable one for all ages, and not a place which is designed specifically for families. The castle opposite is a great place for kids to roam free and to me the hotel was all the better for treating my 12 year old daughter with respect and leaving it to us to find amusements elsewhere for her to enjoy. Can't wait to return!

One of our favourite hotels in Scotland. Stayed in room 2 this time which had 2 double beds, window seats, view of the castle, separate seating area and an open fire which was fantastic as it was a cold foggy night. Just perfect for my husband, 10 year old daughter and I. The hotel was very busy as it was Mother's day and all the little touches like displays of fresh spring bulbs filled the public rooms with a beautiful aroma. Had steaks for dinner which carry a small supplement if you are staying on the DBB rate. Breakfast has one of the biggest selections we have encountered in a small hotel and yet again was faultless. Thank you once again for a great stay.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are very spacious and have access to a shared, walled garden. Room 2 has an open f...

This Hotel is one of the best run establishments we have stayed at. Perfect in all departments, service, food and rooms were of the highest standard to be found in a small hotel.
It made our short break in East Lothian a most memorable and enjoyable experience and would recommend it to anyone.

The taxi service we used was also first class, this was Jims Taxis in North Berwick

Room Tip: Try room No.10 or the newer rooms 21/22

We stayed here for two nights at the end of January and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. There was a huge, roaring fire in the lounge which encouraged the guests to sit around and chat. The room was a bit cool early in the evening but warmed up later on. The menu was good and, apart from one hiccup, the meals were excellent.
