“Beautiful surroundings, though poorly staffed”
Reviewed 22 January 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for two nights in September, 2013 for a friend's wedding. Beautiful surroundings in an idyllic setting. Food was very good, though menu considered to be quite limited.

Staffing ratio was considered to be inadequate and a low morale apparent among the staff team, everything seems to be an effort. A huge fuss was made over the room being left in an 'unacceptable state' due to an accidental broken glass which was left upon checkout. Chambermaid made an unnecessary fuss, stating a senior manager was required to remove the glass and threatened to levy additional cleaning charge.

Overall a great day's craic, with good food - though personnel were definitely a let down.

We have owned a winter week here for nearly thirty years and although it's not too far away from where we live the secluded nature of the place means you could be anywhere. Our current villa is always prepared to the highest standards as is the whole estate. we did not eat in the restaurant this year but in the past have always found the quality very good and reasonably priced. Well behaved dogs are welcome here and the walking excellent if a little muddy at this time of year if you venture off the paths. We have used several timeshares over the years and still find this one hard to beat. Unlike some timeshares there is absolutely no pressure to buy and when we originally visited all these years ago on a promotional visit I felt obliged to visit the sales team just to thank them for the stay, the rest is history and if you are remotely thinking about buying, speak to Margaret a very pleasant and down to earth local lady who will give you the lowdown. Indeed all the staff are and have always been very pleasant and helpful. One downside as a previous correspondent mentioned is the relatively high winter heating cost which is usually about the £100 mark for a three bed property.

Room Tip: All villas are good, and are refurbished as required, the newer ones are spectacular which will no d...

We are just back from a family break at the estate.....location and layout is lovely even in January.....staff very friendly and helpful.....we had a five star villa which was probably a few years old but still very nice with excellent bathrooms and towels.....only tbree negatives the lights were very dim.....bedding could have been better quality and the resort is quite dark so bring a torch.....most of the accommodation on the estate are dated and would be best refurbished although the ones I saw were all clean........had a lovely evening meal in the Lindsay room with free breakfast next day......what a bargain

Room Tip: Go for the five star. Villas

Our main gripe (which thanks to other reviewers we were prepared for) is the cost of heating the house. The houses are spacious and the amenities work fine, but to keep the place warm will cost you a small fortune. The gym was nice and they had a few leisure activities, but it's brutally cold in the Winter. The staff was pleasant enough but when we had questions they referred us to the welcome manual - but the answers weren't in there! I guess they really weren't "problem solvers". The location is pretty central if you want to use it as a home base (and we saved in electricity since we were rarely home) to visit Fife and West of Fife. We're glad we saw so much of this part of Scotland, but we wouldn't want to return back to this resort.

i honestly don't no why this place has been receiving so many negative comments! i absolutely loved it here.
When we arrived we were met by this lovely elderly man who took us to our villa and showed us around the place and explained how everything worked, he then helped us make reservations for dinner and made us feel genuinely welcomed.
Following this is went to my room which was extremely clean, towels on the bed and bedding was clean and fresh (i feel the need to stress this because often people complain).
The bathroom was well lit and the shower was amazing. The bathroom itself was quite spacious and the layout resembled that of a hotels.
Along our corridor we has a sauna which was a pleasant surprises and perfect after a nice day out.

The living room/dinning room area was open plan so it meant the area itself was spacious and homely, the kitchen was kept clean and everything was in perfect condition. i cannot really comment much about the staff because i did not encounter them often, but the ones which i did talk to seemed genuinely nice, friendly and eager to help.

The local town of fife was so sweet and friendly. Although it was too cold to go to the seaside, the landscape was beautiful and just simply driving through was blissful.

The actual location of the resort was perfect as supermarkets were about a 10-15 and 15-20 minute drive away so there was no need to worry about food. Although the resort itself is secluded, it isn't far out enough to make you feel isolated and bored. During our stay we visited Edinburgh which was only a 35/40 minutes drive away and the scenery around those areas are simply to die for.
Although it rained a few times during our stay (which, lets be honest is very common of Scotland) i didn't mind, as simply staying in and relaxing was divine, and when the sun did come out the views were simply beautiful.

Definitely recommend, don't let the bad reviews put you off!

We stayed for 3 nights over hogmanay in a club room, nice room, very clean, good furnishings and decor.
Breakfast each day was superb, no grease on full Scottish and a lovely choice, including haddock of other dishes.
dinner in the bistro was excellent, but the Hogmanay dinner in the restaurant was superb.
All staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very special break.

We booked a night away after New Year, weather was awful but the welcome was lovely. Room spotless if a little warm (couldn't seem to turn down the radiator) we had dinner in the bistro and that was lovely. I had the seafood platter and my partner had the fish and chips.....he's a chef and said it was the nicest he'd had in ages!
Dog stayed for free and we had full use of the leisure facilities. All in all a great night away and set in beautiful surroundings, with hindsight would have been better to spend longer as they have so much other things to do there!
