Great Glen Water Park
Reviewed 30 July 2007

My wife and myself, my son, his wife, and two children holidayed at the great glen water park on loch oich this year and immediately were impressed with the friendly welcome at the reception.
The lodge itself could do with a makeover both inside and out but was in a very clean state with very comfortable beds and good size lounge for 6 people.
The clubhouse area was very good with its swimming pool (a bit on the small side), resturant, and the bar upstairs well stocked ,the resturant was very cosey and the food excellent with all home grown cooking.
My son,his wife and the two children enjoyed the outdoor activities and there is many interesting places to visit on day trips,Inverness, Mallag, and the silver sand beeches of Morar, Kyle of Lochaish, The Skye Bridge not forgetting Fort Augustus, Fort William, Spean Bridge.
As you can see plenty to see and lots to do and the weather can be excellent as it was for us, it was all summed up by our two gransons on the last night of the holiday when they said we don't want to go home. -------- A thorougly great holiday was had by all .

I would recommend this to anyone with kids who like the outdoors. The 'Monster Activities' centre on site caters for everything and they go out of their way to accommodate you.
The place is well laid out, accommodation is clean, tidy and all you would expect of this type. There is is a well run and stocked bar, plenty of good malts and highland beers. The restaurant has a good ever-changing menu, which always has a local flavour.
It is well situated to cover Loch Ness and the white sandy beaches of Arisaig. Or you can just sit by the Caledonian Canal and watch the boats go by.
All in all we had a great family holiday and plan to go back next year.

i was there from the 7th until the 14th of july and it was the best holiday ive ever been on. the staff were really friendly. the view was amazing. the accomodation was good too. it only rained once! the guys at monster activities are really funny and helpful.
especially steve ;)
its close to loads of great places aswell.
but the nearest cinema is 2 hours away. thats the only bad point.
but not many people go to the cinema when they are on holiday anyway...so its not like it matters!

We're just back from the Great Glen Water Park (June 2007) and we have had a great time.

We have stayed pre-school break up - so the park was refreshingly quiet and by no means over crowded.

The pool is small - but big enough for a couple of hours floating around in the afternoon warming up after spending time on the loch and there is also a small sauna within the pool building which was nice.

The restaurant again was quite small with pre-booking essential, but the food was tasty with a home cooked feel. I would heartliy recommend the haggis, neeps and tatties!

All of the staff were freindly and helpful and always made you feel welcome - Dave the barman is a nice chap with plenty of recommendations if you want to try some of the local drinks.

Our accomodation was a loch side lodge - which was clean and well presented. I've read other comments about needing updating and I suppose they are correct - but the lodges are by no means from the 70's. The beds were very comfortable and generally our lodge was well equipped. A nice modern shower booth, good heating, well equipped kitchen, tv and dvd player and above all an amazing view out over the loch.

Downsides... Our 17 year old daughter was somewhat bored - at that age they are not really looking for peace and quiet and a life battery recharge. The games room is a bit dull and sort of tucked away at the back of the bar area - so not that inviting - but we spent most of the time on day trips so it wasn't that bad.

Midges - I was eaten to death. We had to travel back to Fort William to get sprays and creams but they didn't much work - so there wasn't a lot of sitting out on the patio/deck in the evening. Locals said that June, July and August are the bad months so when we go back (and we will) it will be outside of that time.

Anyway - all in all a great time - but I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If the weather is not that great you must be prepared to day trip and travel to local sites such as the Highland Widlife Park to see the Wolves - as if you don't you might find yourself thinking theres not much to do around the Park itself. If you want the peace and quiet and want to get through a book or two - just brilliant.

Monster water activities: The lads were great. Boats or canoes for hire - and plenty of other stuff too. Really helpful - for example if they see you drifting off in the wind and notice you're struggling a bit they would zoom out and tow you back to save you the effort. Fare prices and a good laugh.

Generally the area is breathtakingly beautiful - with Glencoe, and Ben Nevis sites to be seen. If you havent been to the Highlands before - go!

Brilliant secluded getaway , far from everything. Enjoyed feeding
sea gulls and swans in the unit (kids invited them in).

Over all, need updatinh, but it was ok. We were there in July and had fun touring. Watch out for the invisible mosquito like insects.

We went to the Great Glen Water Park which is on the shores of Loch Lochy, Great Glen, Scotland, in August 2005.

In the brochure (they do not seem to have their own website, just information for potential timeshare owners, I went through Hoseasons), it is stated that there is plenty to do for all ages, with watersports right there waiting for you, entertainment etc.
When we got there it was raining lightly which can give a bad impression, but all we could see were some boats tied up outside a small "office", which we presumed were the famed Watersports.

The staff are lovely, although the service in the Restaurant was a bit slow, the food was very nice and reasonably priced, the bar was quite small considering the amount of people on the site, it was well stocked but unfortunately the "games room" was just 2 fruit machines and a pool table, which did not particularly interest our 12 year old! also they were usually taken by old kids, the laundry was £3 a time to wash and there were only 3 machines for the whole site, so at least you got to know people queueing up to do the washing!

There was a swimming pool which was heated and very nice for the kids. Although we had been told that the Glengarry lodge was 2 miles away, we decided on it as it was away from all the noise, right on the banks of the loch with lovely sunsets and walks, which it was, except that to get back to the main site, or indeed to the main road to go anywhere, you had to drive a road which was like a roller coaster! I felt sick after driving on it and that was just to get to the shop! there was no way across to the site via the loch so you either drove or walked this road, nightmare.

The lodges themselves were lovely, all pine inside with a modernish kitchen, leather furniture, TV, dining set, full central heating which was metered and cost around £20 for the week for all heating and electric which was n't bad, although we were out all day most days so I dont know how much it would be in winter!

The beds were really comfortable and there was double glazing and a weekly rubbish collection, you just put all your stuff in black bags and left it outside, the views were fantastic and so were the walks, you woke to the sound of sheep in the neighbouring farm.
So to sum up, great if you are a couple or older kids who want some peace and quiet, and maybe a swim and a drink the bar in the evening, and don't mind riding a roller coaster while dodging the dreaded midges!
