Breathtaking beauty, quiet elegance and romance beyond words. Endless hot sand, empty but for a parasol and a picnic blanket, waves, blue sky. Smiling staff, unobtrusive care, grace and charm.
All there, all kept deliciously secret. How to keep it secret while letting the world know of it? Tricky, but it takes a determined effort to get there. Makes it harder to leave, but with that privacy and beauty comes the return for effort.

The glowing comments about Las Alamandas are all true! This property is truly unique, and spending time here is like vacationing at a wealthy friend’s private hideaway - which basically is an accurate description of the property, if you research its history.

Getting there: We flew into Manzanillo and out of Puerto Vallarta. We arranged for car service (~US$500) through LA for both arrival and departure. There really is no need for a car at LA, as the resort is remotely located and there is little reason to leave the property.

Room:: We stayed in one of the ocean front suites. The interior was tastefully decorated and comfortably appointed. The two-room changing/bathroom area was spacious, and our suite included an outdside shower (one of my very favorite features). Our bedroom opened onto a huge terrace, complete with a queen-size daybed and a mosaic-tiled hot tub overlooking one of the resort’s four beaches.

Dining: All meals are a la carte, and the quality of food ranged from good to great. A basket of fresh, baked-on-the-premises pastries or rolls accompany each meal, as does a basket of homeade tortilla chips (the best I’ve ever had!) and two kinds of salsa at lunch and dinner. Dinner options always included fish, beef, and chicken, with a salad, soup and seafood options for appetizers or lighter appetites. The kitchen uses fruits and vegetables grown at the property; the fresh fruit juices were fabulous and the veggies offered for lunch and dinner fresh and beautifully prepared. We generally passed on dessert (they seemed uninspiring), because we knew that a basket of homeade cookies were awaiting us in our room, delivered with turndown service!

Service: Discrete and friendly. We never saw housekeeping - somehow they always knew when we were out of the room to straighten it up or complete “turn-down” service. On our second day, I asked the staff “how late” lunch was served, and he responded “Consider this your house - if you’d like to eat at 3 or 4 o’clock, no problem!”

Activities: The driving tour of the property (it will take 1.5 hours+) was really worthwhile. I also rode a mountain bike to the two more remote beaches (a pretty challenging ride), and we “hiked” to a third. But for the most part, we lazed about, reading, swimming, and taking walks on the beach that fronts the villas. I would note that I had no problems swimming in the ocean and bodysurfing (at all four beaches). There are other comments posted that suggest that ocean swimming at LA is dangerous, and of course conditions are highly changeable throughout the year -- but it was simply fantastic during our stay, I had no concerns after figuring out the surf. I’ve encountered much more rigorous conditions in Hawaii and on East Coast beaches.

Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a quiet, private, out-of-the way hideaway on a truly magnificent property, look no further.

Every member of our staff strives for “perfection” – and it’s extremely rewarding to hear that we actually achieved that lofty goal, in the opinion of a Very Important Guest! I have been visiting Las Alamandas since 1993 when it was only 2 years old and I keep going back... Why? Because it does something for you that few places can ever really succeed in doing - it refreshes the soul!

You have to hand it to the Owner, Isabel Goldsmith who started the place from scratch, (there was nothing there, not even a palm tree other than the beach and the rhythm of the waves) for the love of it with the goal of creating a place that reflected her own impeccable standards - in architecture, cuisine, wholistic design, staff atmosphere, and feeling of space

Over the years, Ms. Goldsmith has been constantly improving and refining the experience for her clients. Adding a new suite here, a roof-top Star Bar there...Her grandfather Don Patino, who set up Las Hadas in Manzanillo had plans for a 300 unit series of buildings on this stretch of beach - however Isabel, who understands the notion of being a custodian for posterity and with a deep interest in ecology, decided to make something beautiful instead of the money making monstrosities erected by less aware individuals. Today there are still only 16 suites along a stretch of one of the property's three pristine beaches...In each of these suites, there is something special and different to the other suites.

Las Alamandas works on many levels - not just as a romantic destination but also as a place to spend quality and inspiring time with your family. This is a safe, protected environment, even for toddlers to enjoy; I cannot wait to share this Utopia with my 18 month old daughter and go spotting armadillos, badgers, the night time fireflies and maybe even a humpback whale on the horizon....

At Las Alamandas, there is privacy enough to be alone or to meet other guests if you would like to - the architecture is conducive to such a community feel and the Hotel sometimes celebrates occasions such as Day of the Dead or in my case on this trip - a wonderful New Years Eve party in the Beach Palapa - with ones own private Mariachi's band!

Its an anomaly to find such a place in the world today where a harmony exists between a commercial hotel business and the sharing of one individual's beautiful and artistic vision of how life could be - even if it is just for a few days!

Room Tip: Try visiting in August as well, as its still a little less busy and if you book in advance you may b...

We are so very fortunate at Las Alamandas to enjoy the loyalty of long-time guests like yourself, who have visited us many times over the years and become an important part of our extended family. As you noted, Ms. Goldsmith is constantly at work to refine and expand the amenities and accommodations that make our resort so special. She’s very grateful that you appreciate them, too! We look forward to seeing you again, very soon.

Beautiful setting on the Pacific coast with fabulous views over a long sweep of sandy beach, shared with crabs, sandpipers and pelicans swooping over the waves. Horse riding around the estate, spotting rare iguanas and tejones, running along the beach, boogie-boarding in the surf, a brief sighting of humpback whales in the far distance and spectacular sunsets made this holiday a truly uplifting experience. The hotel is beautiful: the suites are spacious and well-designed, the beach bar is perfectly positioned and a great place to hang out and the galleria provides a cool place to retreat from the sun (or rain). The food is consistently excellent and the staff are amongst the nicest, kindest and most helpful we have met in the world. Javier deserves a special mention for the sheer warmth of his smile!

Room Tip: If you can afford it try and get an ocean view room - it is such a great view.

The amazing array of spectacular wildlife is one of our top attractions! We share our 1,500-acre eco preserve with many animals, both on land, at sea and in the skies. Whether domesticated – like our horses – or wild, they appreciate the wide open spaces and beautiful weather as much as our guests do! Thanks, too, for your kind remarks about our excellent cuisine and loyal staff. Many, like Javier, have been with us for decades, and they’re totally committed to ensuring each guest a truly exceptional stay. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your visit - perhaps you should return to see the sea turtles hatching and racing to the ocean. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!

Dear Gary: We often refer to Las Alamandas as a private paradise – and your review neatly summarizes the reasons why! Calling Las Alamandas “the best beach resort we ever visited” is high praise, indeed. As you note, we are stewards of a very special place, an eco-preserve that we cherish and protect. Welcome to bliss and paradise. Step away from your normal everyday life and enter English aristocracy with a bohemian flair. The grounds and service were impeccable. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The place is full of trails just waiting to be discovered, I ran 8K a day through the nicely maintained trails and to the private beaches. It takes a few days to get a grasp at how so vast the property is and soak up the natural habitat that has been maintained on purpose. I did yoga, sea kayaking, galloped on the beach, snorked and ran. I also managed to read 4 books. No matter what I asked for the answer was, "Yes, of course!". The wait staff are so attentive they know your habits in 24 hours. The food was amazing and authentic. It is quiet and peaceful. The staff are attentive and always magically appear at the perfect time. This place offered me solitude and separation from my normal busy life and ultimate relaxation and rejuvination with profound space for introspection. Although most of the people there were couples, this place is your dreamland and perfect for solo travelers and couples. There is no other place like this. Thank you for your hospitality.

Room Tip: Any room is beautiful.

Wow! This place has so many unspoiled private beaches, a river and a lagoon. Horseback riding, Kayaking and water sports. It has it all. The accommodations are large and well designed and I even had my own pool and hammock on the patio. The food is exceptional and the staff is friendly and helpful. Perfect for a romantic honeymoon or couples get-a-way. Two to three hour drive from Puerto Vallarta Airport. The resort also has it's own landing strip, so chartering a small plane for the 30 minute ride is another option. It is definitely worth the effort to get here.

Room Tip: Rooms close to the beach are wonderful. The hotel has a turtle incubation program and allows guests...
