“good food, dodgy drink price”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

went here for dinner at the end of february, my wife and i could not fault the food it was very good in
nice surroundings, my wife had a half of lager and as i was driving i had a can of diet coke, when it was served it came in a can and glass, on the tin was stamped 59p, later in the meal i had a second
diet coke, once again in a 59p can . When the bill came i was charged £2.20p for each diet coke.
Now how can a half of lager be cheaper than a can of coke, even if you go into a supermarket a bottle of lager is dearer than a tin of diet coke.
So all i can sat to you at the crown inn is you need to sort your act out.

Room Tip: check the cost of soft drinks

We wholeheartedly apologise for this lapse. The cans were removed immediately from sale. The client should not have been charged and if he brings it to our attention on any subsequent visits they will receive a complimentary drink.

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch with friends - excellent quality of freshly prepared food. I requested a dish that wasnt even on the menu and received what I wanted :). Outstanding service and beautiful coffee.

We stayed 2 nights at the Crown Inn and can highly recommend the place. Dinner on Saturday night was great - we had pigeon to start and a superb steak pie for mains but the treat was a piece of American baked cheese cake topped with toffee pecan crisp. We had to thank the chef, Pascal, personally as it was perhaps the best we had tasted (the couple on the next table also chose it and were equally singing its praises)

Having read the reviews here I thought I would spend a few days in the country before an annual conference in London.

I found the pub staff friendly and the refurbished bedrooms a comfortable and pleasant experience. The food in the restaurant (French chef) was excellent as was the real ale. Well worth a visit. Also noted the the pub is both child and dog friendly.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Crown and really cannot recommend it highly enough. Our room was a warm, welcoming and simply tasteful place in which we could relax and rest.We enjoyed some very good suppers in a convivial atmosphere. By far the single greatest strength of the Crown is the genuinely caring approach of the hosts who anticipated all our needs and offered every comfort and service in a friendly and very helpful way. We will most certainly make a point of staying at the Crown when we are back in the area and will thoroughly look forward to it. Try the gorgeous honey and ginger ice cream!

Having a day to kill, I went on the BT Sports website to chose a B&B/hotel that was showing the football. Hence my stay at The Crown. The village is a bit off the beaten track, but if you need to stay in the area, this place is as good as anywhere.

The pub was fair enough. Greene King beer, plus a guest ale. There are real fires in both the bar and the dining room.

The room was a bit small, but to be expected as it was a single. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom / shower were recently refurbished and were in perfect condition. Couldn't wish for anything more.

The food I had for supper was extremely well presented. The chef knows what he's doing. Breakfast, prepared by the owner, was likewise delicious.

It was interesting chatting to the owners, and I wish Tim and Germaine all the best. They are doing the right thing here.

I came across The Crown Inn whilst travelling home to Witney & it was an amazing find! Extremely friendly staff that couldn't be more helpful, very warm & cheery atmosphere (not to mention the open fire - it was amazing) & the food was just delicious, even the chef came out to say 'enjoy' which was a pleasant bonus! Overall I'd give it 10/10 & would go back tomorrow without a doubt. Definitely worth a visit (or two!)
